We bought this for my sons room, when it was new to the store we got it for £120. It's bloody awful. Don't get me wrong, I am an Ikea fan and have loads of Ikea furniture I am really pleased with and love. The higher price is with mattesses (they do sometimes advertise price with mattresses) because this was always a cheaper option than the Hemnes.
We bought this bed with the foam mattresses. For my little boy in top of 2 foam mattresses it was fine. When we had guests and my husband and I used it for 5 nights it was horrendous. The mattresses were very uncomfortable and slim, when I got on (10 stone) a slat broke. I have never slept so badly.
Basically this is just a minor price drop, £185 to £159.
It's an complete nightmare to put together. Took ages and some mdf split. It wasn't worth £120 let alone £160. The cheap mattressss were awful.
To be fair Ikea refunded the bed after 6 months. We were stuck with the mattresses though. We have instead purchased an iron bed in a similar style (trundle pull out underneath and becomes a double) so much more comfortable.

It's not a sale it's just a new lower price on it. Bed only no mattress. Saw it last month but going to purchase one next week. I've bought a mattress separate from else where

It's a good price for what you get. Ikea mattresses are awful. They lack variety, and can't exactly just pick them up anywhere.

The last time I had a 4 way we required a much bigger bed

Me and my partner just got one of these. Safe to say its getting unassembled and taken back to ikea. Its poorly constructed, not comfy in any set up and parts of it split when setting up. Its pretty much not fit for purpose. As far as I'm concerned. A poor product avoid it.

I've got this bed and Im surprised with some of the negative comments.
It wasn't so difficult to setup.
The mattresses we bought are pretty comfortable.
Bought my mother in-law the same bed for her spare room too. Her mattresses are thicker and even more comfortable.
I love this bed.
When you pull the second bed out from underneath its huge. As are the drawers.

I had been proving them up, and weirdly a friend was selling one for £50! But it's like a properly slatted single bed with another trundle underneath that slides out and then legs fold down to raise it to the same level. My in laws just slept on it and said it was fine, they slept well. Kids are comfy on it as a sofa, so worth looking into.

The mattresses are put one on top of the other.
So if you're using it as a single bed, you'd be sleeping in two mattresses.
Once you pull the second bed out, you just move one mattress over to it.
It's a fab bed.

You can get 3 different width and prices of mattresses in this size (200cm x 80cm) and we did get the cheapest. The issue we had was the thicker the mattress, then when one on top of the other, the bed was very high for a young child. We still have these mattress and after long term daily use (with children) they do dip in the centre and I know friends who have the more expensive hemnes bed with the same mattresses have said that the mattresses dip and it's not great as a sofa.
It wasn't 'so difficult' to set up, it was just a long trying nightmare,the build with the slats was very time consuming and compared to other Ikea furniture it was just very time consuming and not an enjoyable build. It was a real shame as we were hoping it would be perfect for our needs, but sadly this was not an Ikea good buy for us.

Sofa only ok for kids, certainly useless for adult size or height.

As said earlier, Ikea have been offering UK sizes for a couple of years now. Which? currently have two best buys for Ikea, Morgedal (foam) and Hövåg (pocket-sprung), for less than £200, and one for £540. Other make best buys include a latex mattress for £1650. So I'm not sure you do.. you get different materials and finishing quality, and the choice is yours. You also get a lot of those bed shops on retail parks that will sell you poor quality mattresses and beds for a lot of money if you let them close the 'last day of the deal' offers they tell you about.

I didn't. The bed was not fit for purpose (mdf split/slat broke) and was very uncomfortable. We bought the Ikea recommended mattresses, so actually the ones they have on the beds I store, and like I said, this is because they would not make the bed so high. If I had thought it was the mattresses alone I would've returned them with a complaint under ikeas 365 day return policy. The mattresses however were fine on the Ikea minnen beds we have for our children which are also 80cm wide. They were the cheapest option but still recommended. Another reason this bed is uncomfortable is the pull out style. When the 2 bed bases are merged as a single the slats are right next to each other so effectively form a flat wooden bed base, which is not springy or comfortable. (Often beds have curved slats for comfort) with 2 mattresses this is fine. But when pulled out these spats are flat and unforgiving. I will add I have several of the Ikea foam mattresses from the more expensive range and again they are fine for young children not great for adults.
So I stand by my original opinion that as a guest bed this is extremely uncomfortable, unpleasant to put together and as all the recommended mattresses in the size are foam 80cm x 200cm I can't see there being a particular difference across the range. The bed is poorly made and from bog standard mdf.
I do not think it worth the money.

You can get beds like this all over in good quality, lots of places do Iron and solid wood beds. We just got a really nice one and the second mattress goes under the bed and has a really nice frame with rollers to make it easy to handle. Ikea is good for a lot of things, just not beds, the only selling point with them for me was they always did European sizes which are longer than the UK ones have I've been over 200cm since I was in my early teens so my feet get less cold on a European single.

It's the mattress that costs not the bed itself, bed frames are cheap as chips. If you do get this do yourself a favour and just get a silent knight memory foam off amazon, way better than Ikeas and they are cheap. If you aren't used to sleeping on a foam mattress be prepared for crap sleep though.

Not at all. Clearly you are just being picky and haven't read the other posts. There are a number of reasons this bed is poor quality and not value for money.
They do have a guest bed currently on offer which looks better for £95.
I'm not just saying the mattress was poor at all, it is the mattress advertised with the bed and if it was just a mattress issue I would've returned them under ikeas very good return policy. The mattresses are fine on2 other Ikea beds we owned.
I was simply stating that I did purchase the cheaper ones recommended but as I have several Ikea foam mattresses I could not see how the superior ones would enhance this bed.

Hi buggbairn, I set ours up in box room at our house and grandparents so don't have enough room to pull out to use second bed, bought as fit the space and good for storage. But you would buy two mattresses and place one on to of other then when you want to use the trundle bed pull out bed and slide mattress over. HTH
