"The HP Instant Ink package for this printer includes a three-month trial and a £74 code that can be redeemed on any plan – plans start from £1.99 per month for 50 pages."
So depending of your monthly printing will last from less than a year for up to 3 years (supposedly, doesn't state if credit expires)
EDIT - Also 1 month's extra free ink with code FREEINK and possibly another month with a referral code

When activating the instant ink trial, use code FREEINK for an extra free month and if you find/ask for a referral code to use you get another extra free month.

Almost bought this at £149. Glad I waited - just ordered. Mostly need this for working from home. Don't have space for a colour laser with a sheet fed scanner. Price makes this a no-brainer.

OP you may want to update the description to mention the FREEINK code and the possibility of using a referral code aswell.
Also the fact you can switch up a plan instantly, and going down takes effect from the next month. So select the top plan for the free months and then switch down once it starts using the credit. You can always switch up if you are going to go over the plan limit. That way you only pay the higher rate for the months you will actually print 300 pages and can stay on the 50 or 100 page plan based on your normal usage.

I went for the 100 pages but my free trial is 300 pages per month so perhaps it defaults to maximum for the trial. My only complaint is that I'm still waiting for my ink to be delivered and it was shipped 8 days ago....been empty for the past 3 days....good job it's not my only printer.

Hi, am being thick. But what's the instant free ink about? In lay mans terms anyone?
Essentially instead of paying for the ink cartridges HP ships them to you and instead bills you based on the number of pages you print. You can print anything from a single speck to a full colour picture, it all counts as 1 page.
The options are
£1.99/month for 50 pages/month (extra pages £1 for 15)
£3.49/month for 100 pages/month (extra pages £1 for 20)
£7.99/month for 300 pages a month (extra pages £1 for 25)
Unused pages carry over to the next month, upto your plan limit (i.e. if you're on the 50 page plan, you can have upto 50 unused pages in your roll over allotment).
You can switch plans/cancel at any time. Switching up a plan takes effect immediately, going down takes effect from the next month. So say you pick the £1.99 plan and you're going to print a lot this month, you can switch up to the 100 or 300 page plan and avoid the extra page charges (based on how many extra you will print and which way works out cheaper).
This printer comes with 3 months free trial on the 300/month plan, plus £74 credit. You can also get two further months free by getting someone thats already an instant ink customer to give you a referral and entering the FREEINK code when you sign up. So in all 5 months free on 300/month plan, plus £74 credit to apply against any of the other plans after that.
You can probably judge by your own usage if its worth it. If you print pics, or a lot of docs it probably is. However, even for low usage customers, you end up wasting a lot of ink due to printer "cleaning" cycles, so it could still be worth it.
In our case its for business, so we can reclaim the VAT, bringing it down to ~£83. We'll probably get just over 2 years with the 5 free months and £74 credit. And over that period we'd probably spend a similar amount on ink. So effectively a free printer and worry free printing for two years

We've been an instank ink customer for a little over a year now - and can say it's been a hassle free experience that's saved us loads.
Be warned though, when we joined and priced it up it made excellent sense for us as the large majority of our printing is full a4 pages of colour hi-res photos. As instank ink counts one page the same regardless of how much inlks used if your only printing text / forms etc then it's nowhere near as good value.

Hi, was hoping for some advice. Been looking at this compared to the hp envy printers. We need a printer for home use (kids home work and occasional printing) and would probably go for the £1.99 per month, 50 page instant ink. As far as I can tell this is a better printer and over time (2-3 years) works out cheaper than the envy printers. I notice that this uses separate cartridges for colour printing whereas the envy printers use just one colour cartridge. Does this mean that it will produce better photo printing results? Also, I'm a little concerned that we may have problems with ink drying up if printing less than 50 pages per month? Any help really would be appreciated, thanks
Mentos to ptspen
2 Mar 17#14
Presuming you use a referral code and the FREEINK code, with the £74 credit you'd end up with 42 months of printing included (5 months free + 37 months @ £1.99). I'd probably go for this over the Envy printers. You won't have to worry about ink drying up, thats HP's problem while you're on the plan.
Also, all else being equal separate cartridges are considered better as theres less wastage. For example on a combined cartridge when one colour goes you're effectively forced to throw away the unused ink in the other colours.

Thanks so much for taking the time to respond, really appreciate the advice!
Thanks, I emailed them but havent heard back. Hopefully they will credit me also.
Quite happy with the printer and deal so bought one for home office as well. Will only need the 50 page plan, so with 5 months free and 37 months using the credit gives me 3.5 years of printing  Plus I can refer myself from my other account and get another free month on the first printer

Picked one of these up today from my local PCWorld. Had it set up in 5 minutes, installed the drivers, registered for the Instant Ink Free trial - found if you use the code FREEINK when you register, your first month you can print up to 300 pages for free regardless of which level of the Instant Ink subscription you pick!
Has some nice touches like you can set it to scan to email specific email addresses, it gives the printer its own email address so you can email attachments to that address and it just prints them.
Even lets you sent a photo on Facebook Messenger and it'll print it for you

Going to pick one up this morning, thanks op! With regards to the £25 cashback from Hp does it matter if it's purchased instore rather than online? It seems to suggest you need to submit an electronic copy of the invoice, so not sure if a scanned copy of the till receipt will be ok? Thanks
zabada to ptspen
4 Mar 171#23
A scanned copy is fine:
3. To take advantage of the promotion, customers must complete the online claim form, and attach proof of purchase in the form of the sellers invoice, via scan or email attachment. Proof of order or dispatch note will not be accepted. The sellers invoice must clearly show the customer details, HP part code of the qualifying products purchased, the purchase price and the date of purchase.

5 Mar 17#31
Keep an eye out. Deals seem pop up periodically. Its a decent photo printer, but not the best.
If you're looking for "lab quality" prints you need to get one of the specialist 6 ink printers. However, IMO for residential use the case for those printers is questionable. I wonder how many people can really hit the sweet spot where they become viable on an economic/convenience basis. I think most would be better of using something like this for casual prints of pictures and sending off for top quality prints.
I certainly think its a great printer, especially with the Instant Ink credit. But just wanted to clarify for those that are expecting top end photo prints from it.

6 Mar 17#43
No :disappointed:
Called HP Instant ink to confirm there was in fact a voucher and it wasn't supposed to auto apply. Agent took a while to go away and confirm (presume it isn't a common offer). Was advised to call Currys and then call back if Curry's couldnt help.
Called Currys, took a while to explain the issue, agent couldn't do anything other then pick it up and send a new one (7 day process). He transferred the call to tech support in the hope they could help, again took a while to explain the issue. He said they couldn't do anything, so transferred me back to customer services but first explained everything himself to the colleague to save me the trouble. Still had to explain everything again. And after all that the only solution was the 7 day swap out (printer goes back, they check it, then send another one).
I'd already set it up, registered warranty, cashback, etc. So told them i'd give HP another try. Again had to explain everything to HP, agent again went to check what the offer was all about. Explained Curry's proposal, which he agreed was a waste of everyones time. Had to send him pics of the box showing the orange sticker stating the offer details. Then finally he got his manager to generate me a new code.
Overall a couple of hours on the phone.
Was there any damage to your box? Did it look like it had been opened? In my case there was a hand sized hole just above one of the handle cutouts. Suspect someone read the big orange sticker saying £74 voucher inside and decided to pinch it. Hopefully the code is tied to the printer and when it was regenerated for me it rendered the missing/stolen one useless.

It's about 50cm wide, 32cm high and 40cm deep (though that rises to 53cm when paper tray is extended) - plus you need space above and behind if you plan to open the scanner lid. Much smaller than equivalently featured Brother colour laser I was considering, but large for an inkjet.

Printer arrived and while bigger then my all in one epson, it definitely is more up to date.
One thing I noticed in my tests so far - Scanning a single document to google drive took around 1min-2mins!
Scan part was around 10 seconds but the remainder to upload too ages!
Normally with my epson it would take 30seconds from start to finish...

Why don't you buy another one (or two) and take them back to your local Currys/ PC World with the first receipt(s) for a refund of the price you paid. You have up to 21 days (or 30 days, depending on where you look) to return unopened goods!

I think its 21 days looking at the website.
First one has been over 21 days. Second one is 4 days short, which would mean grabbing from store (as online wouldn't arrive in time).
If both were returnable might be worth it. Not worth the hassle for one (particularly as its for work so get the VAT part back anyway).
