What would you do if you could leap backward through time? When 17 year old Makoto Konno gains this ability after an accident in her high school chemistry lab, she immediately sets about improving her grades and preventing personal mishaps. Before long however, she realizes that even innocuous changes can have terrible consequences. Changing the past is not as simple as it seems, and eventually Makoto will have to rely on her new powers to shape the future for herself and her friends.

Great deal! Now that it's expired there's always Zoom for £4.50:
that picture is from some other special edition version and those are art books..
the one in this deal is just a disc.

Really the only reason this film is so highly rated and a bestseller must be because it is so cheap. It is really not in the same league as the best of Studio Ghibli (e.g. Mononoke, Totoro, Nausicaa). The animation is pretty standard Japanese anime, particularly in terms of the faces, and the atmosphere lacks the magical quality of Ghibli. The characters of the two main male characters are poorly defined, while the female lead is simply a typical feisty female. The story begins quite well as a coming-of-age schooldays love triangle type thingie, but descends into farce in the second half as the time travel theme unravels into absurdity.

This is a really nice slow paced warm summer movie about growing up.
I dislike most anime but this film is great, and I would reccomend any of Makoto Shinkais anime films if you want something similar (somewhat sad young-lover story with beautiful cinematography)
Edit: Weird this is a 12 rating, definatley for all ages.

The Girl who Leapt through Time is technically a sequel to the 1967 novel by Yasutaka Tsutsui. The Wikipedia stub now includes the tie-in between the Anime, Films and Book.

Didn't think I would see this relatively obscure film as a hot deal here. Really original anime; good fun and a bit philosophical.

Great price. Currently £4.99 on Amazon with Prime, with the usual £1.00 credit for Amazon Video too.
