You are right about the cleaning, it is annoying but a compromise.
These are retrospective kits for old Ikea furniture, which can also be used for other cheap furniture from Argos and such like. New Ikea designs have the fixings more discreetly hidden, but still are not base heavy as it is not in keeping with Scandinavian design.

Not really. Old wooden drawers and wardrobes are base heavy and do not have paper/cardboard back like ikea. All good furniture does not need to be secured to the wall. If you have children around, Ikea wardrobes, bookshelves and drawers are very unsafe will fall down breaking the weak securing on the wall . If securing behind, you cannot move furniture for cleaning and also destroy wall finish or paint so not a good idea. Ikea should hide behind these free wall securing kits.

Buy second hand solid wood. Those things never fall over and won't have to buy them twice

Only Ikea crap needs this securing as they are front heavy and back light. I went to buy drawers last week but when I saw the poor quality and front heavy tumble down feature, did not buy. But they do very nice dinner. Had nice dinner but did not buy anything unsafe from them.
