Do you really need £7.25 this much? I cancelled my subscription last year and also had to go through 15 minutes of polite but persistent questioning. The which? technology coverage is hopeless. Staffed by young middle class ex grad herberts who haven't a clue. Anything with an apple logo and/or the most expensive automatically qualifies as a 'best buy'. Final straw for me was reading that the consumer association i.e. which? is a registered charity and the chief exec trousered £819k in 2016. You couldn't make it up.

Not worth it for the effort of cancellation. My experience wasn't good. The only cancellation option I had last year was by phone. You get a fairly hard sell, and my cancellation took about 15 minutes, with me repeatedly saying no thanks.

Do people not just look on Amazon at customer reviews these days? That's all I do. If I see a "deal" on something somewhere then it is invariably available on Amazon. Quick glance at the customer reviews, and a double check that there have been a sufficient number of them left to give a representative and reliable sample, with a cross reference to camelcamelcamel to see what price point they are reviewing at, and then finally if I decide that I want it then a couple of quick searches on here to see if it can be had at a better price from anywhere else (paying close attention to any available voucher codes).
I don't know where in that process there is room for me to be looking it up in a magazine which probably has vested interest when it marks a particular product a "best buy".

I happen to receive Which magazines every month for free (don't ask how). Frankly, I think they're crap. The review topics are practically the same every month (household white goods) and are limited to just a few pages at the back, and most of the articles are very similar to what's available for free on MSE or in the news (in the case of reporting scams and the like).
Examples - I bought a compact system camera that was generally acknowledged as one of the best in it's class, but wasn't even commented on in any of their camera sections/reviews. I also bought a 'best buy' Delonghi kettle (in clearance) which was rated as fantastic by Which, but which was frankly rubbish, with water spilling out of the lid every time it was opened, a useless water level gauge, and broke after 18 months. I now don't even bother reading them when I receive them each month. Generally online review sites (even accounting for a token number of fake reviews) are a better guide.

As a long-term subscriber to Which? on and off over a very long time I'd have to agree with some of the criticisms. Their methodology is often suspect, agreed, and their long-term testing virtually non-existent. Which is why they can often award 'Best Buy' status to something most of us know is a piece of junk and will fall apart just after the warranty expires. They used to stress test quite a lot of items for long term reliability - now they don't, and they rely heavily on member feedback for brand reliability.
It's still useful (which is why I continue to subscribe) but you do have to take a lot of what they say with a pinch of salt. They recently recommended a Roberts iStream 2 radio as 'This is one of the best radios we have tested in recent years' - completely failing to mention all the problems reported on their own website! And they still maintain (as they usually do) that they were right.
Used to be excellent - now it spends so much money campaigning that there's not a lot left to do the testing members pay them to do.

Excellent post! The methodology they use on many of their tests is completely bonkers. For example a few years ago they tested batteries and Duracell came out the winner. However, in their laboratory tests Duracell only beat the runner up (Aldi own brand, I think) on longevity by a marginal amount - something like 4% - yet cost over double the price. I contacted them to ask how they could possibly give Duracell a "Best Buy" award when you'd get over twice the power for the same amount of money with the Aldi brand. Their response: "we don't take price into account." Genius!

Which chairty has the most ethical renumeration policy for its workers. That would be a good article to help inform hs consumers on which magazines we should buy.

This worked for me last time. As a few people have said, tech reviews were rubbish but cancelling was easy, for me at least. Cancelled the direct debit and sent them an email, took 2 minutes.

God knows how this is a charity and how the board can get so much money. It was once good but for me is now a very rotten egg and in no world is it worth the money they expect you to pay. Good luck to those risking this, but for me the grass is not greener....
