This is a seriously cheap Focus

With everything that's going on in the news with Diesel this 1.0 Petrol seems like a great option

This is based on 8,000 miles a year and over 2 years

There is a £298 admin fee but even with that this I a lot of car for the money

They also have £1201.50 deposit and £133.50 a month on their site as well as 10,000 miles and also the diesel one although that does cost a bit more £216.74 a month

I don't think I have missed anything but this is my first post so sorry if I have

You do a search for any engine 'going pop' and you'll find plenty of results, especially one that's sold in the millions...
Irony is that many people will use VW as an example to counter the Ford engine, yet they have had plenty of engine issues of their own, and I don't just mean the emissions...

Sure, but sadly (or perhaps not for some people), prices will inevitably creep up given the provenance of much of the goods we buy in the UK.

The second or third link in that deal gives the details for the Titanium 10k deal, and still cheaper.
It doesn't really matter if it's 1.5 or 1.6, I just pointed out that for the same money or less I would prefer a diesel for fuel economy and more torque.
There were definetely some cheaper deals for Focus as I kept an eye on them, and I'm not happy seeing prices creaping up
m5rcc
10 Mar 17 #83
That deal you showed had a customised initial deposit for the 6k deal, so I would not have thought it would be the same for the 10k deal and the OP omitted the admin fee. So is it really cheaper than this deal? And even if it was, what does that prove exactly? If anything, it is more likely to show that a fresh batch of 1.5 TDCIs have flooded the dealers because of the 1.6 TDCI being replaced (finally).
MaximusRo
9 Mar 17 #82
With more mileage (10k/year)
It is hard to prove what exactly?
m5rcc
9 Mar 17 #81
Are you comparing this Focus to a diesel Focus with less mileage? It's difficult to prove your theory especially when Ford rose their prices in September 2016 by 1.5%.
pgilc1
8 Mar 17 #80
Fair point and i guess hard to say. Could be a variety of reasons. Its hard to compare one individual deal from one broker against one individual deal from another broker at a different point in time, as opposed to observing pricing trends across the market.
MaximusRo
8 Mar 17 #79
Just 5 months ago though... not sure if the currency would support theory
pgilc1
8 Mar 17 1 #78
The price of tins of peas has went down, yet demand has went up. The reason is effectively the same - competitiveness in the marketplace.

Tablet computers - demand has went up, but prices have went down. Not BECAUSE of demand going up, but because of the economies of scale.

Flat screen TVs. Demand is up, prices are down.

Most consumer items in fact.

Prices have went up for car leasing because of currency variances and softer residuals. The cost of borrowing has went up a little too. All of these things impact monthly payments.

It is NOT because "leasing has become more popular"
pgilc1
8 Mar 17 #77
I'm not debating any of that - because I'M AGREEING WITH YOU on what you said.

What i did question was your assertion that "Prices went up as leasing got more popular" - that is NOT the reason prices went up.

Please at least read what people put before jumping in with more nonsense.
pgilc1
8 Mar 17 1 #76
Seriously - first off you said that lease prices had went up because leasing had become more popular, and now you've said Ford stopped making the 1.6 in favour of the 1.0 Ecoboost as the 1.6 was "too reliable"

I mean seriously? What sort of responses do you expect with nonsense like that?
MaximusRo
8 Mar 17 #75
Nonsense. Here is a deal from just 5 months ago, still a better deal at 10k, for Titanium diesel (see comment 4)

This isnt difficult?

pgilc1
8 Mar 17 #71
And again - right assertion, wrong reason.
MaximusRo
8 Mar 17 #70
Can you give another example of anything getting more demand and as a result the prices going down?
The pound probably has an influence of course, but I remember the leasing deals a few years back, when half the posts were about how nonsensical leasing is, how they would "never" do it etc.

Leasing companies had to give good deals to attract people
pgilc1
8 Mar 17 #69

I went they are all turbo engines. Turbo and reliability do not walk hand in hand it seems
The old 1.6 aspirated engines were too reliable I think, they weren't making any money off of them
MaximusRo
8 Mar 17 #67
The cheapest lease deal for a Focus was 120/month, for 10k miles, and that was for a Diesel as well.
There were a few others for 130 to 150/month, all for 10k miles/year, and all Diesels (1.6 and 2.0).
Total cost over the 2 years was from 4200 to 4900.

I don't care how good or bad this petrol engine is, for a two years lease, for the same money, I would still prefer a diesel, better torque, better fuel economy

Ooh, difficult one to answer really. I've only just got it and I'm never one to work mpg out! All I know is that it doesn't use all that much than the previous car which was an Ibiza 1.6 (90 bhp) TDi. The car reads 5, or just over, litres per 100 kms (I live in Spain). Yes, the two-cylinder function works a treat ;-)

The current Focus is assembled in Germany. Many things from the continent have got dearer. Since the EU referendum, Sterling has tanked 11.55% against the Euro. Just wait for Article 50 to kick in (if it ever does) for things to get a whole load worse.
pgilc1
8 Mar 17 #57
I dont think thats true. I think generally prices for leasing has went down as there is a huge amount of competitiveness in the market.

Perhaps in this particular instance list prices have went up and perceived residual values have went down.

125bhp with sufficient torque is likely to satisfy most drivers under most circumstances, they may well never wish for more and even feel they are travelling briskly on occasions......

....but they aren't going to be excited whilst driving, they are never going to get that whooshy, giggly, tingly, fairground feeling you get driving a fast car

The first one is about Westminster London Borough "trialling" charging extra to park diesel cars. Westminster is one of the most air polluted boroughs in the country, so i take their point.

The second one is for diesel cars over 12 years old, driving in to the london congestion zone. How many people driving 12+ year old diesel cars were paying the £10 to drive in to london every day anyway?

The third one is only an investigation at this stage and sounds like its going to be for specific areas in Aberdeen city centre if it comes to pass.

So if you dont drive a > 12 year old diesel or want to park in specific car parks in westminster or might want to drive in to specific road areas in Aberdeen at some point in the future (ie, 99.9% of people on here) then its a bit of a non story.

Plus lets be honest - the papers make a big deal about things then the government / local councils all use that as a mandate for upping taxes in some way, which leads to more stories which leads to more punitive taxes, etc, etc.

I dont currently own a diesel, but i dont think as petrol car owners any of us can be taking any sort of moral high ground over pollution

If i were in the market for a diesel right not, it wouldnt bother me - unless i lived or drove in to Aberdeen or Westminster.... neither of which likely to happy for very different reasons

The difference being our A45 can go round corners.

And handle.

And is quicker off the line.

And is quicker all over the place actually

And has AWD

Dont get me wrong - the VXR8 is a nice enough car, but lets be honest here - its not really going to worry an A45.
