Couldn't agree more transfers are broken and raising it as an issue is completely pointless as SI defend the game and deny everything to the point that when they realise you do have a valid point, they refer to the "You don't have to buy the game" tactic.
One example I once offered my star striker as a test for £0 (worth £32.5 mill) 75 plus goals, ave rating over 7.60 over 3 seasons and not got one offer...Really?!?!?...raised it on the forum and got the whole "it's his contract" malarky.
I'd love to see what happens if Spurs offered Harry Kane out for free, I very much doubt no matter how lucrative his contract is that clubs would be lining up up their droves to snap him up! LOL
What FM in your opinion were transfers realistic? Be nice to know so I can go back to that version...cheers

Sorry was being a bit vague there..to explain
You never ever get offer's from opposition clubs to buy your own players no matter how good they are/how many awards they've won, could have the best player in the world and you never ever get a transfer offer UNLESS you offer that particular player out and transfer list them.
My point being...that's not how the transfer market works in the real football world and since FM 2009 i'ts took the fun outta the game..and BTW I have reported it as a bug (IMHO) and every version it's the same old same old.
Regards.

This is just one of a number of major fundamental issues with the game, but for me is probably the biggest. Got absolutely sick of AI clubs always being interested in my best world class players and yet never making bids, if they did make a bid it'd be at market value and you have to really manipulate the AI to get a reasonable offer, but if you wanted to sign an AI club's player they want 4-5 times the player's market value and won't negotiate. Meanwhile a select group of above average players always seem to be transferred for £20m-30m every year.
I actually simulated a handful of games over a long term (20+ years) using the "go on holiday" feature to see how the big clubs spent, and it was mainly Man City and PSG buying £30m players every season whilst all the other big AI clubs wasted away, rarely ever using their huge budgets. There's just something very, very broken when transfers are such a big part of this "realism" game, and SI just have zero interest in fixing it because they know they don't need to since there's enough football fans who'll continue playing the game.
Raising issues with SI pointless. I think SI have it as company policy to just deny issues with the games because they have this model of rolling out the same game (with irrelevant menu alterations) every year, and that inherently means putting on this public face of the game being great and that there are inherent limitations with creating a footballing simulation. This despite the fact that if you go back to older gen iterations of the game it had none of these problems.

That's because as good as the game is it's virtually impossible to sell players.
Have raised this issue many many times and SI all but defend the game.
"Offer players out to clubs if you want to sell" ..etc etc etc

Haven't played since the first football manager after they split from champ manager.
I spend enough time doing fantasy footie so this would kill my free time!

the only football manager I have is FM14 and I absolutely love it to bits. I really didn't line the demos for the next few FMs though, they made it hard to use

I'll try the free demo, but missed most of the season already and the next one will be out september/october, would have to be lower in price. Probably save it and buy FM18 full price, 2 year cycle.

Thanks, tried recently to get back into FM 2013, but under Windows 10 it keeps crashing. This is a fantastic opportunity to see if I can get back into the game.

Thanks I'll give it a go. I've heard a lot of people saying that this year they feel games are decided no matter what you do or change unfortunately

Ah ok. I've been playing this pretty much every year and have seen small gradual improvements over time. However the golden age of the franchise was back when they had no 3D engine. Think it was Championship Manager 2001/2002 season when you had Mark Kerr, Julio Arca, Tonton Zola Moukoko, Isaak Okoronkwo and Cherno Samba as cheapy must-buy players to improve any team you managed.
Anyway downloaded this version now. Will try later on.

Used to play it years ago but with time issues I now just stick to console gaming. I could still enjoy it though and had a mobile version a couple of years back.

Yeah I will only buy it after it goes on sale now, managed to get it from my local football team shop for £10 and after skipping last years I'm really enjoying it nut nothing much has really changed

I've put in 150 hours since Xmas, it's literally been just squad updates since the proper 3d engine was brought in. I was gifted it for Xmas from someone who got it cheap so was more than happy to accept. It's still a great game but understand the hate due to nothing really being changed. I recommend trying it for free

Bizarrely lots of negative reviews on Steam. Will use the free trial to decide whether to buy or not later.

That's because it's pretty much the same game as the last 3 or 4 iterations, aside from the attribute tweaks and transfers. Lazy developers cashing in on brand and lack of competition.
