last year they did a 50p fish and chip for their anniversary it was chaos as half of East Yorkshire turned up at least they have two restaurants in hull now.. so 1p fish and chips is gonna be crazy...but they are the best fish and chip restaurant/takeaway I've been to and the owners are top blokes too :smile:

well said mate I moved here temporary but loved it so stayed I have been in a few towns and cities with my old job and I have to say this is one of the nicest people are friendly too I have never experienced anything at all , I broke down once and people came over to help me push my car to a safe place I too would never move from here, I do think he was exaggerating a bit

I've lived here 34 years, I've never been car jacked or threatened at knife point and I don't know anybody who has.

I live in a nice house where my kids play in a nice garden or we go to the park.

we are the city of culture and there is tons of stuff happening every day, in fact we became city of culture because of the amount of things that were going on.

I will concede you may be older than me and your experience may be from before I could comment, or you maybe lived in a bad part of the city (Manchester, Leeds, London all have them) but I love it here.

They recently opened a branch in Scarborough next to Morrisons and Mcdonalds. Our local Johnston press sorry excuse of a paper even tried to get into some of the limelight and report it as it was local branch. Went to a chippy is South Shields (North East) the other week and it had won loads of awards and North East Best Chip-Shop etc. When we got them we could see why.... AMAZING !!!

Joking aside, would be a good gesture if those of you going, see if you can get some extra bags of fish and chips and hand them out to the homeless or locals in need. Won't break the bank for those who normally are on such a tight budget that cant afford to do this.

I went to the 50p promo last year and immediately left. The food is amazing but the queue was huuuuuuuuge. People came from miles around. I think they were serving from morning til midnight! There are two outlets now, but I reckon the queues will be even more ridiculous.

That said, if you've got nowt better to do, you should check it out. Their fish and chips are incredible (obviously) and won't disappoint. The servers move fast so you probably won't be queueing for more than an hour. Plus, they had bouncy castles and stuff for the kids last year, so I'm expecting a full-on carnival this time.

And if you're coming to Hull specially for this deal, be sure to check out East Park and/or the old town before you leave. Hull was one of the first flashpoints of the English Civil Wars, and you can still visit the pub (Ye Olde White Harte - not to be confused with The White Hart) where the locals decided to deny entry to the king. You can even check out the plotting room upstairs if you ask the barman nicely. They say it's super-haunted, like (same with Ye Olde Black Boy), but I ain't afraid of no ghosts.

Great city (much maligned by people who've never been there - mainly southerners living in grotty little flats they can't afford to rent, buy or heat), great fish and chips (Yorkshire-style, skin on, Haddock, not the inferior Cod, fried in beef dripping, not oil), great offer.
