Thanks. Downloading. Game took up my January and I may play through again to improve my character more this time around (before some of the later parts). At that price a good title to own digitally saving disc swapping.

Seems unusually good...like it's competing with the Resi Evil super pack (£16 @ Xbox store) for the ridiculously good value gaming title.

Most if not all AAA games discounted this heavily are either a) really BAD or b) ancient. This is neither of those

Jesus, thanks. Also got Journey (£4) and Ico/SoTC HD (£5). Might not be the best prices ever, but I only recently got my PS3 and PS4 and it was low enough for me to jump on them. Might order some more stuff later now that I don't have to worry about them possibly upping the FFXV price.

FF specifically stopped being turn-based combat in this very game, it's more hack 'n slash with strategy now. Amazing price, despite being warned about the amount of grinding, fetch quests and how all over the place the story is I definitely had to bite. Doesn't seem to be a price mistake, looks to be one of the newly added titles to PS Plus Double Discount sale PSN had begun the end of last month. This and Uncharted 4 being £15 should hopefully push me up to get the "spend £50 in March and get a £10 back in April" deal.

Anyone have any opinion on FGXV's season pass/dlc ?
Personally, I think if a game company can't release the full game in time, they should push back the release date. Not release a game unfinished and then bundle the rest of the content a few months later for half of the price of the released game, or in some cases, the same price.
With FFXV, without the DLC, the full story is there, right?

If you managed to purchase it you'll probably be able to download it once Sony have sorted out what the proper price is - for the time being you'll probably just have to wait - I can't see how logistically Sony can revoke or delete content that you've already downloaded or bought.

For those who purchased in time I can't imagine they're being any negative repercussions to the purchase.

I remember the free Fallout 4 games & DLC debacles that resulted in the purchases being revoked but then again those were clearly mispriced. I don't remember this happening for actual purchases where money was exchanged so not sure if we are just going to get gutted/refunded by Sony, I mean I paid with PayPal, not sure what kind of purchase protection is there. At least MS gave some credit for our troubles, this will be interesting to see but I am not getting my hopes up http://www.ign.com/articles/2016/03/22/accidental-free-fallout-4-season-passes-on-ps4-revokedhttp://www.windowscentral.com/microsoft-will-be-giving-some-xbox-owners-10-credit-fallout-4-pricing-errors

I tried looking but when was the last time this happened, has Sony actively bricked purchased and installed games, I do not think they even did that with PT demo although they removed the game completely from the store pages but those who had it installed were able to keep it. I would agree that this is a bit of a legal minefield but then again we all knew this was going to happen at some point with Sony accessing our consoles to remove things already purchased. Welcome to the always-online age I guess, only way to avoid is to take the PS4 offline and keep it that way

Not anti-sony, I get what you are saying that the game is in my purchases, it is in my library but I cannot start the download due to the whole game being removed from the store, at least for the time being or maybe it will be replaced with a 'patched' version I will not be able to download and I will get refunded? I think Voyager123 said that there have been cases where Sony has removed/revoked purchased games but as said, the only instance I remember this happening to me personally was with Fallout 4 Free DLC that was not even released at the time of 'purchase' so I was not too surprised it didn't go through. All in all, it will be interesting to see how this all pans out. The ball is on Sony's court.
paulanscombe
22 Mar 17 #256
you paid £10 im sure the game will still be available to you once back up, i understand they have the right to remove access to games that are obtained free like the fallout fiasco. but i also downloaded Eve Valkrye when it was free for about 2 hours and it still works fine. guess well see later

It will do. They will need to revoke the license and refund you before it would go back to 'Add to basket' again.

I honestly doubt that any orders will get cancelled. From my experience they have only ever done that when people managed to get something for free. Even the £1 orders for Uncharted and Killzone still work today for those lucky enough to have grabbed them.

It is still valid on my purchase list for now at least anyway.

If you're stupid enough to buy a game genre you don't like just because it's cheap I'm surprised you know how to type

you can't play it anyways my mates got it downloaded it asks for the disk
nige182
22 Mar 17 #311
That happens if you install from the disc version first and then buy the PSN version. You would need to delete off your hard drive and then download the purchased version from PSN, then it will no longer ask for the disc.

its only a tenner at the end of the day, I know final fantasy games ain't for everyone but at least give it an hour or two, you never know you may end up enjoying it.

I'd class 81 as a pretty average score, yes. In FF terms it's actually one of the lowest scoring "main series games" ever.
Illusionary
23 Mar 17 1 #317
This speaks very much to the problem of over-reliance on raw 'scores' as it's now become, and distorted expectations. There's something to be said for having high standards, sure, but I challenge you to find any respected publication that defines 8/10 (or equivalent) as an "average" score!
misa426
23 Mar 17 #318
So many games getting 8/10 I'd have to agree it is average
Illusionary
23 Mar 17 #319
*Lots* of games are released nowadays - you're only looking at the top end of the market.
misa426
23 Mar 17 1 #320
If a game gets reviewed 6 or 7 on a review site, the review would likely have concluded it is a poor or mediocre game, nothing special. And I can't even remember seeing a game get 5 or below anywhere. That's basically saying it is terrible.

And maybe I am looking at the top end of the market , but who isnt? Why would you be interested in the crap end?
Illusionary
23 Mar 17 #321
6s maybe, 7s not typically - you'll generally find these to be considered as "okay"/"average" and "good", respectively - have a read of the review policy of whichever sites you're reading. Either way, though, this all just reinforces what I was saying about over-relevance on raw scores. :stuck_out_tongue:.

And of course, there's nothing intrinsically wrong with focusing on the top end of the market - but an "average" of the too end is very different from average overall!
misa426
23 Mar 17 #322
Average of top end is whats relevant here. Consumers are not going out looking at the crap end, they are interested in the top end. So when we say "average", it's average in the sense of compared to other games consumers are probably looking at, which is whats relevant

Downloaded last night after I paid for it on the Sony site at work. Not a big gamble for a tenner. Thanks again OP

Seemed to work OK for me last night. I had it fired up for about 45 mins and even got a couple of goes with all the film section screens. Pushed a car all the way to a garage!

I'm sure it gets better
Themadcow
23 Mar 17 1 #325
Yeah, if you look across the entire market including indies and shovelware then 81% is certainly above average. However for a major release it's just about acceptable from a major studio perspective - I believe many developers teams are bonused on metascore. Most famously, Obsidian missed out on their bonus for Fallout New Vegas because of a metascore of 84:

https://www.engadget.com/2012/03/15/obsidian-missed-fallout-new-vegas-metacritic-bonus-by-one-point/

I'd still maintain that for a major release, 81% is no better than average (Metacritic's grading is fundamentally broken due to disparity between films, music, games and TV reviews), and in terms of the FF main series it's ranked below pretty much every other title in the last 20 years. Ultimately FF needs to compete with games like Zelda, Witcher, Skyrim, Nier, Fallout etc - all of which scored higher. Mass Effect Andromeda's 74% is effectively a disaster.

It just goes to show the intelligence of people in the industry these days. I remember at school everyone saying "But Sir, what use will half of this still be in real life - we've all got calculators".
It doesn't take a genius, in fact it takes a primary school child to tell you that we can have an acceptable range of 1% - 100% and using that grade, 50% is the mid-point.
Anything that is deemed "mediocre" should sit at the 50% mark. Anything that is deemed good should sit in the 75%-80% range with only the exceptional sitting in the 90%+ area.
Industry supidity from the less intelligent and suddenly 75% is "an unacceptable failure" *Sigh*

23 Mar 17 2 #327
Tbh, I work in stats and it's simply human nature to over-rate things based on a 10 point or 100 point scale. Funnily enough it's not so bad for movies - I think 50-60% probably is about the average mark simply because movie ratings tend to be on shorter scales where not being 'perfect' is punished more in terms of % drop.

Culturally there are a lot of differences too. Southern Europeans and latin countries are more likely to rate on the extreme point of scales, whereas northern Europeans hate to give out 10/10.
misa426
23 Mar 17 #328
I agree. Zelda, Witcher, Skyrim, Nier, etc are alternatives a consumer is likely to consider in this generation. It is not useful or relevant to compare a score against every single game released including shovelware. But indeed scores do not tell a full picture - for example many games receive updates. Are scores adjusted if a game drastically improved over time? I'm not sure

If anyone else went a bit mental when this deal was posted they might be interested in this. Sony are offering a £10 voucher code to spend in April if you spend £50 (in total) in their store in March. I spent about £30 alone from this thread so I'll be taking advantage of this.
