Type One diabetes is an auto immune condition that sufferers have no control over getting and cannot be cured from. 10% of diabetes sufferers have type one and it is chronic and incurable, they are insulin dependent and would die within days without it.
Type two diabetes is mainly preventable and can be reveresed through diet and exercise.
Please stop say 'diabetes' and lumping the two conditions together. They have similar symptoms but very different causes. People with type one diabetes are not a drain on the NHS, they are very ill people who need life saving medication and treatment.

hmmmm, not sure I like the phrase drain on the NHS, it implies this disease is needlessly wasting a lot of money. Personally I would say the NHS is keeping most diabetics alive when otherwise they would die in a year or two from their illness, whilst elsewhere transgender ops, boob jobs and designer vaginas are the real drain :disappointed:

I'd love to wear this as the cafe stuffing my face with brownies.
Don't want to put a downer on a good cause, but where exactly is the money going? -into the pockets of the managers?
The only research that comes to fruition is from and private companies/facilities funding themselves. Diabetes UK as far as I know only raise awareness.

It's only £1! I don't think that's really going to line anyone's pockets. Even £1 to raise awareness of the NHS's biggest cost (10% of all NHS budget is spent treating diabetes) is surely a good cause?

Apologies. I simply mean that the condition leads to the single biggest cost in the NHS. I didn't mean to imply that people with diabetes are a drain on resources and money. I have updated my comment to 'cost'.

Thanks Mintyman. Bought 2 cycling vests, 2 t shirts and a set of measuring spoons for me, a t shirt for my dad and mirror for my mum. Total £10 delivered. Voted hot.
Have to say though, I have lived with type 1 diabetes for 20 years and have been quite lucky with my health. I have lost friends to diabetes complications, another friend now totally blind, and another lost his foot a few months ago and looks like he will be losing his leg now. I feel bad that we are a drain on the NHS, it isn't our choice, or indeed our intention.

To be fair it could say "I'm a ****" on the front and would still be a deal for £1. Bottom of the barrel jerseys are usually at least £10.
I got a couple of cycling jerseys and running vests and the total was £7. For workout wear that's pretty stonking value.
Maybe you're the one who needs to wake up? Nobodys milking you for their £1 cycling jerseys.

I never said Type 1 is a drain. I simply meant 'drain' in the sense that the NHS is splitting at the seams, and hemorrhaging money. 10% of all NHS budget is spent on treating diabetes related complications so anything that can be done to raise awareness of the condition can only be a good thing.

I would very much agree that type 2 diabetes is a drain on the nhs!
It is far more common than type 1 and pretty much completely preventable. It is very much associated with obesity and and over indulgence which in itself is classed as a huge drain on the nhs.
You wouldn't argue that smoking related illness was not a drain.
If you knowingly or willingly cause a preventable illness and then expect others to foot the bill, then that my friend is a 'drain' on resources.
Put the cake down and go for a walk!

Not complaining , but just a note so that you're aware. Once they run out of stock (and they probably did within 10 minutes of this being posted) they won't contact you to let you know, they'll just keep your money and not send you anything.
I bought items within minutes of the previous diabetesUK post being posted, and never received half the stuff, and they also don't respond to emails .
Feel awful saying this about a charity , but this department of the charity is poorly run

I managed to get a response from them, where they forwarded an email (I swear I never received) about how they were sorry that some of the items couldn't be fulfilled, a refund would be processed (never got one in the end) and gave a code for 10% off next order (SUPPORTER17 if anyone's interested, unsure if it still works). Bit disappointed but it was only a couple of quid.
