If the condition of the laptop is not good when it turns up, can it be returned? The condition is 'scratch and dent' which could cover pretty bad condition though above people have said it was perfect.

If you are in the market for a laptop it's worth checking back daily (stock usually updates 2:30pm-3pm) they are a bargain, latest processor and fast ram and always in perfect condition (so don't worry about 'Scratch and Dent' clasification.

Hmmm... I used to work within a similar industry... Release a certain amount of "returns" on the assurance of the staff that could work on that stock... Probably the same thing with much more leeway... But not sure... Assume it never ended up with us Brits unknowingly training up clueless Poles to replace us... Have us bullied out for NMW workers... But yeah... Who needs born and bred loyal patriots within the U.K to do the jobs for the M.O.D, nuclear power plants etc... Best reply on foreign labour on NMW eh??? Now that we were far off NMW btw...

My advice is keep looking till you get what you want, it will come eventually.
I was looking on the dell site for 3 months, a few times a week, finally got what I wanted yesterday. I just randomly managed to look around 10.30pm and got a great deal.
Inspiron 5567 like the OP, but with i7-7500u, 16gb ram, 256gb SSD, FHD, and dedicated radeon R7 graphics card all for £437 incl VAT and delivery. Scratch and dent.
On their website a perfect model is £863 incl VAT.
They had 2, I bagged one and the next one vanished before midnight.
I am delighted.

Yeah it's pretty amazing skimpy, not the best i7 or gfx but at the price how can I complain! Pretty much half price. BTW I asked dell on Twitter to put up an inspiron code yesterday, they had one on the site in a couple of hours!
Same laptop as OP with different components, theya re all gone now but should pop up often, I checked two days and it was there both days, just one or two though. There is one with 8gb ram instead of 16gb which is £25 cheaper and essentially would have the same performance for nearly everybody
Asya86
28 Mar 17#76
Does anyone know if decent 13 inch laptops that are not 2-in-1s pop up on the outlet at all? I mean under £400.
I want something with at least an i5 processor, 8GB RAM and SSD storage, and a 15" laptop is just too big for for what I need it for... Haven't seen anything good over the last few days.

28 Mar 17#77
I'd been looking for a few days so just luck really. Ordered the op build (i5-7200, 8GB ram, 1TB SATA, FHD) with radeon card for £346 inc. Good enough for me as mostly about replacing a vista laptop.

28 Mar 17#78
I've been reading a lot of negative comments / reviews about the full hd screens in the Inspiron 15 range recently, which seemingly ruin otherwise very good spec laptops. Something about them being cheap TN panels rather than IPS screens, and that they are very poor indeed.
Same spec apart from the Gfx and more than double the price. I'm not a gamer anyway so don't need one.
Eric - personally I have read the same about the screen but for the money we paid the best you can find "perfect" is something like I5 6th gen with 8gb ram, 256gb ssd, HD and not FHD, and no dedicated graphics card. Comparing it to £800-£1,000 laptops it is perhaps inferior, but when your comparing it to laptops at £400-£500 it's a no brainer.
skimpy
28 Mar 171#80
Forgot to say. I first saw the 8gb version and inc vat it would have been £24 cheaper, I was just about to click through on that and then I saw the 16gb and was over the moon.
Then I clicked through frantically as a new customer, filled in all the fields and forgot I ordered one from them years back and still had an account so had to go back, reset password all that stuff, and then it took 5 mins for the reset link to come through. It was stressful, I knew they would go very quickly and could not afford to miss out. I think they only confirm it in your cart after you have paid.
My tip would be if your thinking of Dell outlet, get your account in order beforehand, then you can just click through and buy easily. End to end the diversions must have cost me 15 minutes and in that time it could easily have gone.

I tried to click through to my tracking but it shows an order somebody made in 2012 lol. You will get yours first as I'm in Ireland, post up how it goes!
Definitely set up your address and payment card, I even had to set up a postal forwarding address to send it to Ireland for me, and add that address to my debit card account. Then I could just click order when the laptops become available. Also, check earlier in the day if a coupon is available to have it ready.

28 Mar 17#84
Anyone received yet and can give some feedback on the screen?
brilly
28 Mar 17#85
thats not significantly better in terms of graphics and you know it would be a lot less on outlet, you are paying more for the build and better screen
brilly
28 Mar 17#86
you dont actually have to use it as a 2 in 1 though, tbh i think it may have a better build anyway as its intended to be manhandled changing positions etc?
be sure to read reviews anyway as i see a few models at least have the ram soldered

30 Mar 17#115
what did you prefer about win 8?

Mine was 'in production' for over a week, in fact it was still same status when the ETA came around then suddenly slipped over a week. I emailed them my disappointment (ranted a bit) and they responded straight away and things got moving. It is now 'on delivery' - fingers crossed!
Morebeer - Did the order description say "black"? mine does. Hope I don't get a white one, anything else will be ok.
paulG - I reckon I might suffer a similar fate, ordered mine on Tuesday then was happy that expected delivery was tomorrow. Today it's still in production. I just don't know why they don't just give us a 2wk lag to delivery in the first place rather than raise expectations.
PaulG1970

Simonsayz - So many other people have said the same, they appear perfect. Hope mine is too when it arrives.
brilly
30 Mar 17#122
i guess its cos they only seem to have 2 non-new categories

30 Mar 17#123
What do people make of the screens that have gotten it? looks very dim and washed out from pictures I see online, is it ok for you?
Like I said a few days ago though at this price point I would normally be looking at HD, and if FHD was 100% a necessity for the same money I'd have to drop down to something like i3/ 4GB/ 128 SSD on the spec to get it for a similar price.
So while I have no expectations that it will be a great panel, in context I expect it'll be good enough for me.

More 5567s i5 in stock today but no FHD, grrrr. Do they only re-stock daily or is it worth checking their stock later on in the day?
Did it say it's black in the specs? Wouldn't be happy with a red version if it states something else tbh.

Hi,
A dell rep told me they update stock at 2.30pm and 8.30pm, but its not exactly at those times, I noticed it varied by up to about half an hour before/after.

Laptop arrived today, well packaged, surprisingly RED! Not a "scratch or dent" on it, can't really argue with it, really needs an SSD plus another stick of ram but that would void the warranty... Still, for the price it's a bargain.

upgrading ram/hdd/ssd doesn't void your warranty unless you actually break it doing the upgrade

Yes I have been completely put off buying the Inspiron 15 due to torrent of negative stuff I've read about the full HD screen. Yes I guess it doesn't matter too much when it's a bargain but I still want a laptop with a nice screen, period.

Delivery date pushed back also to the 10th. They say they have asked the outlet team for a reason for the delay.

I have read some of the comments a bit further up too. I have a tip for anyone looking.
Don't necessarily focus on the inspiron with the 15% off code. Get 2 bookmarks setup for both the home and business coupon pages, then you can see what they are offering as a discount on everything, and check them twice a day. While the stock may change twice a day, the coupon codes change regularly too, and they can make a difference.
For example there is a 15% code on there for XPS machines today which wasn't there yesterday.

Have a Samsung 850 Evo ready to go in mine. Did consider another stick of RAM for dual channel but 16GB is overkill for my needs.
The HDD will be a massive bottleneck, I'm surprised they're still making machines with large HDDs as the main drive.
PaulG1970

Yes a SSD will be great. I am looking for a bargain SSD, if need be I will wait for Black Friday.
My only concern is storage, what size have you gone for and do you have other storage? This is our main computer.

The coupon has changed daily as it forms part of their 5 days deals promotion. It doesn't and hasn't changed throughout the day.

Only a 120GB as I have a big NAS for storage. I would have gone for a 240GB but SSD prices have risen since I last bought one. I remember paying around £50 for a Sandisk 240GB back on black Friday 2015. They're way more than that now.
A little tip for anyone upgrading to SSD and installing a fresh copy of windows - use the USB2 port on the right hand side of the machine if installing from USB media. I couldn't get windows to install when booting from the USB3 ports.

Yes sorry, the deals seem to come daily and then stick around for 1 to any number of days but the stock can be refreshed twice a day. From what I have seen in the last 3 months the coupon deals on offer are a bit random, sometimes there can be zero, sometimes 10 separate ones, sometimes it can be 10% or 15% off everything in stock.
From what I have seen I do think the work/ business deals in general are a bit better than the home deals and I think it's because not as many people go to that part of the site. For those who can handle 12.5 inch screen either HD or FHD and need the portability there has been some great latitude e5270 deals in the work/ business section with the constant 30% off (effectively 16% when VAT is factored in), that deals been on there for months. From memory I saw a i5 6th or 7th gen, 16gb ram, 256gb ssd, FHD for about £450 not so long ago. There's nothing there though at the moment.

Just had a quick look on dell "full price", apart from this being a series 7 rather than a 5, so designated e7270 vs e5270, it looks almost identical spec wise to the outlet pc i posted in post #147. Even with the massive savings inc VAT it'd be over £800.

Hey there, I just got mine today and I could have said the same word for word, the screen (fhd) is exactly as you say, sharp but dim and dull looking, and I'm not sure yet how I'll get along with it. There is a calibration they suggest here (under 'display' heading http://www.notebookcheck.net/Dell-Inspiron-15-5000-5567-1753-Notebook-Review.194950.0.html ) which may help a little, though I'm not expecting miracles.
But, its in tiptop condition, all I've found is one 2mm mark by the CD drive, that you can barely see.

Mine arrived today and is basically mint condition. While on Youtube, the screen seems ok but when I use a few other apps its clearly visible how horrible the screen actually is. The specs are great but I dunno if I can live with such a horrible screen. I'd rather a non HD screen to this.

I called on Monday and asked if I would get the laptop by the estimated date (6/4) and was told yes. Today it still hadn't shipped, I called again and the agent said he didn't know what the issue was and that he would check and get back to me. Haven't heard back but the tracking page now says 12/4 is the estimated date. I am so annoyed, I am going away on holiday for a week on 8/4 and was really hoping to get it before. I don't understand why they create expectations only to then break them!

This happened to me and others. I emailed one night saying why has it changed, why could it not be shipped asap, it exists 'in stock's when I paid and I was disappointed. Got mine now, perfect condition, it's new. Mine is the i7 ssd 16gb ram dedicated gfx version. Applied a colour profile but then did a colour calibration instead, much brighter now, colours are all right, much better but nothing special. I do love having a matte screen. Also have true colour on and pumped up brightness to the max. That was all in windows settings. Then went to the intel graphics settings in the tray and put up brightness a little there, and put up saturation, much better. Don't overdo it or it looks weird.
Windows install is like 55gb, seems overkill, may reinstall.
PaulG1970
7 Apr 17#184
The calibration you did, is it what you have described above or was it more involved? If more please let us have the settings and guide.
TarAldarion
7 Apr 17#185
There is just a colour calibration on windows and I did that (search for it and it should pop up), just basically messing around with the colours until you like it after I applied the ICC profile linked here. Screen is actually realllllly bright now so i leave it on 75%, colours aren't the best but much better, you can only polish a turd so much.

I got mine yesterday too, been a bit painful getting it.
Supposed to be delivered sometime Tuesday but wasn't, then I was promised Thurdsay morning and they didn't deliver again. Yesterday evening a guy turned up about 5.30pm with it.
The screen's fine imo, maybe a bit white. I've toyed around with it a bit and ok now. I wonder if the matt effect makes it a bit duller than it otherwise would be.
Very fast and quiet overall, the only time the fan's come on is when windows modules kicked in on the windows update and the cpu was running circa 30%, the rest of the time it's silent.
I have been reading around regarding windows, seems like the space taken up is a bit excessive, it's using about 55gb on mine.
One minor thing i can't decide on is whether to stick the display at 125% (recommended) or 150%. The former seems to large while the latter a bit too small.
Overall good I'd have marked Dell higher if it wasnt for the delivery issues.
PaulG1970
7 Apr 17#187
Thanks, I have never done this before! So it is just click the ICC profile (is that easy?), then do the steps you mention above? I don't want to mess up a brand new machine!
TarAldarion
7 Apr 17#188
Yeah the colours are a bit washed out but it's fine tbh, I'm glad it's much better than I thought after all these posts. I MUCH prefer having a matt screen so that is sweet, being used to IPS' for all my monitors did make it hard to go back to viewing angles angle.
Yeah the 55GB is huge considering the ssd is only 238GB. Runs quiet and cool enough and batter lasted ages last night.
brilly
7 Apr 17#189
if the colours are washed out then surely you have just raised the base brightness and hammered the contrast back down?
ips isn't a guarantee of a good screen or tn of a bad one, my tn has very wide viewing angles, good colours, brightness etc - have to check each case by case
TarAldarion
7 Apr 17#190
Things start to look weird if you do that - I guess it's already been pushed to the max but I'll give it a go again later. No matter what you do it won't be a great screen but as I don't need accurate colour for anything it's all right.
They're not definite all right, just a common thing. My IPS/PLS screens (4 of them, not counting tablets and phones) are amazing but I have had very good TN panels before too, was pretty hard to get a good TN one.

The default when i got mine was 125% display size and it's a little bit smaller than im used to. 100% makes the text very small. Go to your setting, I expect's its on 125% atm.
I don't anticipate I'll ever need the extra 10mb or whatever I could potentially save from a windows reinstallation so will probably leave as it is.
After being on it a bit more today I love the thing, ultra silent most of the time, and very quick. Coming from a £280 Advent T100 Monza bought in 2013 it's miles better.

This laptop is an emotional rollercoaster! the screen seemed terrible when I first got it, then I fiddled with settings but didn't feel it improved much, then the next day I thought maybe I was being too fussy and it didn't seem as bad as I first thought, then I was watching some trailers for different films and they all looked like the directors had chosen the same colour palette and lighting styles.. Namely dark shadows and blueish tint with very few colourful scenes, and I even watched some Disney trailers! BUT otherwise I love the rest of the thing. I'd love to change the screen but I've never done one and I'd be scared of damaging things.

Hi all,
Just wanted to know if you had purchased this laptop recently then how is it? Only I had and I received a dud one. It crashed the very first time I tried to use it whilst I was trying to customise my Microsoft settings at the beginning. Crazy to think the heady days of the Dell Outlet were around 17 years ago when hotukdeals was in its infancy.
Also I think some of us missed the boat in the online deals business opportunity ;-)
Onsite support is a joke. They expect the user to undertake a repair. Returns were supposed to be Ireland and cost £50. If you buy via your own company 14 day return is not valid as the Distance Selling Regulations are for consumers only. Never again!
Good luck.

I just used it. Thanks to op.
Unreal deal.
Disappointed.
Well done. Great deal innit.
Same laptop as OP with different components, theya re all gone now but should pop up often, I checked two days and it was there both days, just one or two though. There is one with 8gb ram instead of 16gb which is £25 cheaper and essentially would have the same performance for nearly everybody
I want something with at least an i5 processor, 8GB RAM and SSD storage, and a 15" laptop is just too big for for what I need it for... Haven't seen anything good over the last few days.
FYI. Just this minute received an email from Dell, they say the estimated delivery date is on or before 31st March. I am surprised, I have seen comments in the past that they can take a while to arrive.
Hope yours arrives quickly too.
Definitely set up your address and payment card, I even had to set up a postal forwarding address to send it to Ireland for me, and add that address to my debit card account. Then I could just click order when the laptops become available. Also, check earlier in the day if a coupon is available to have it ready.
Delivery is now 5th April from my order on 22nd.
be sure to read reviews anyway as i see a few models at least have the ram soldered
Thanks
Inspiron 15 5567
1TB SATA Hard Drive
8GB 2400Mhz SD Ram
Intel® Core™ i5-7200U (Dual Core,3M Cache, up to 3.10 GHz,15W)
2GB AMD Radeon R7 M440 2GB DDR3
For £335 inc VAT and delivery! Can you advise me if this is a good deal or not? I think it's pretty good right?
I managed to get the i7, 256 ssd 8gb ram with FHD for £413. Hoping no visible damage as the price is the best I've seen.
My estimated delivery is still showing as tomorrow but I'm doubting that now as the laptop is still "in production".
i went back to windows 7 as part of trying to fix an old laptop and found it was 'useless', just the same feeling as going from 7 to 10 initially basically
just depends what you are used to i think

good luck
paulG - I reckon I might suffer a similar fate, ordered mine on Tuesday then was happy that expected delivery was tomorrow. Today it's still in production. I just don't know why they don't just give us a 2wk lag to delivery in the first place rather than raise expectations.
There is an action to contact customer support on your order, they replied quickly.
Simonsayz - So many other people have said the same, they appear perfect. Hope mine is too when it arrives.
i am guessing
refurb - they've fixed/checked something
scratch dent - everything else
my one (not this model) had a little scuff at the volume controls but that was it
Like I said a few days ago though at this price point I would normally be looking at HD, and if FHD was 100% a necessity for the same money I'd have to drop down to something like i3/ 4GB/ 128 SSD on the spec to get it for a similar price.
So while I have no expectations that it will be a great panel, in context I expect it'll be good enough for me.
Did it say it's black in the specs? Wouldn't be happy with a red version if it states something else tbh.
Looks like it has arrived, I will pick up from MIL later.
A dell rep told me they update stock at 2.30pm and 8.30pm, but its not exactly at those times, I noticed it varied by up to about half an hour before/after.
Screen is disappointing (as the review earlier), dull and viewing angles not good but for the price I can live with it.
Delivery date pushed back also to the 10th. They say they have asked the outlet team for a reason for the delay.
The HDD will be a massive bottleneck, I'm surprised they're still making machines with large HDDs as the main drive.
My only concern is storage, what size have you gone for and do you have other storage? This is our main computer.
A little tip for anyone upgrading to SSD and installing a fresh copy of windows - use the USB2 port on the right hand side of the machine if installing from USB media. I couldn't get windows to install when booting from the USB3 ports.
(the site is restocked every day)
From what I have seen I do think the work/ business deals in general are a bit better than the home deals and I think it's because not as many people go to that part of the site.
They have this spec "scratch and dent"
Latitude E5270
Processor: Intel® Core™ i5-6300U (2C, up to 3.0 GHz, 3M Cache, 25W)
Windows 10 Pro (64bit)
8 GB (1x8GB) 2133MHz DDR4 Memory Non ECC
128 GB Solid State Hard Drive
Intel HD Graphics
Intel 8260 Dual band 2x2 802.11ac Wi-Fi + Bluetooth 4.1
No WWAN Card Included
Non Touch WWAN LCD Backcover
Palmrest : No Fingerprint and No Smart Card Reader (Contact and Contactless)
Power Cord : 250V
Primary 4-cell 62W/HR Battery
12.5 inch HD (1366 x 768) Anti-Glare Non- Touch LCD With Camera
Internal Qwerty Non-backlit Keyboard
Not bad for £429 less discount, making the effective cost £360 at checkout. I reckon that must be about half price(ish).
Not trying to spam or anything but just checked and my order has just changed to shipped.
Chasing them up definitely helped. Thanks for the tip folks.

Ditto
Just purchased the Vostro 14 - 5468 (Scratch and Dent) - it was £370, got it for £377 after VAT and -15% student discount.
It has an i5 processor, 8GB RAM and 256GB SSD. Not FHD but think I can live with that. Can't wait to get it!
think the 7-12 day thing is for proper new machines they need to do stuff to or ship from abroad
rather than outlet ones that they just need to stick in a box and dump in post
:stuck_out_tongue:
Promising though, if you've had movememnt today.
My ETA is today, they can't give a time so I have had to stay in all day.
Then I refreshed a while back and at 11.45 the status changed to " NOT REC'D/INCOMPLETE IN DEPOT."
So it left the hub but doesn't seem to have got to depot.
It might just be the description or something but I'm starting to get a bad feeling all of a sudden.
at least the screws are big and easy
so many more ribbons and overlapping stuff than on my older laptop though it seems a bit crappy, guess its to save space but looks odd
i got a 1 hour timeslot from ukmail for delivery on the day it was local to me
The syncreon had 'on del' or similar on my delivery day.
But, its in tiptop condition, all I've found is one 2mm mark by the CD drive, that you can barely see.
so is the screen dodgy looking on the i7 5567
Worth a try.
Windows install is like 55gb, seems overkill, may reinstall.
Yeah the 55GB is huge considering the ssd is only 238GB. Runs quiet and cool enough and batter lasted ages last night.
ips isn't a guarantee of a good screen or tn of a bad one, my tn has very wide viewing angles, good colours, brightness etc - have to check each case by case
Just wanted to know if you had purchased this laptop recently then how is it? Only I had and I received a dud one. It crashed the very first time I tried to use it whilst I was trying to customise my Microsoft settings at the beginning. Was on the phone to the technical support team for over an hour but the issue had still not been resolved. They are collecting it from me today so they can process a refund for me.
Was the one that you received alright?
Thanks
im writing this on the one i bought right now, and it works fine, tho the screen is as stated above low quality.
