Lidl is starting cycling offers this sunday. one of the deals is a cycling backpack. I don't how comfortable or durable is this backpack but it includes a raincover, which is deal breaker for me. I am using regular backpack when cycling and was looking for a hi-viz (rain)cover for it. you can get them from ebay for about £2-3, £5 from Decatlon, £8 from mountain warehouse. so having a specially designed cycling backpack with a raincover for just £9.99 looks good to me.
just keep the receipt so you can get your money back if you are not happy with the quality.

Had a look at the bag, as I anticipated the bag doesn't have proper airflow control at the back like the older Lidl cycling backpacks did. Instead of a separate rigid back they've instead just placed two lines of foam backing. Cost cutting again from Lidl I'm afraid.

On second bag in 12 months gets used every day for work. Not exceptional quality but good enough

I agree - this thread does not seem to be full of brand snobs, as some are, since people are offering genuine experiences and are not slagging off Lidl. If it's not very good, then it's not very good, regardless of brand or price. Just like the poster who mentioned Deuter.
errrr2: what's the point in wasting money on pannier bags for light occasional use, might as well just use a rucksack?

Anyone know what else cycling related items they will be selling when this Drops? Would be handy to know what they are going to have before heading over.
For the most part, you're better of buying direct from china but there are some nice clothes about if you can find good ones at the right price. With a 20% devaluation of the pound in the last 12 months, that ain't easy though.

got one of these a couple of years ago. Little used, but ripping apart in a couple of places and internally too. If you don't expect it to last more than a couple of years light use, then go for it, it's lightweight and resonably comfy for what it is
oh and the zip annoyingly catches the material most of the time

Brand snobs are out again I see. This clearly isn't for "every day professional" use, but probably fine for occasional light use. Lidl also have a pair of decent looking pannier bags for £9.99, again most suitable for light use I suspect.

It's not so much 'brand snob' but the quality of the products versus the price. The last waterproof panniers I bought from Lidl were terrible, the weakpoint being the mounting system which were really crappy metal clips prone to failure. Compare that to the system used by Ortleib and you really are talking about two quite different products, especially given how thin the material was on the Lidl ones I bought. By the looks of the pictures, the material on these panniers looks a bit different but the clips to mount to the rack look just as bad.
Also Lidl had tried to make the panniers look like Ortleib ones too which I find quite cynical ploy.
Those are handy, I've got two of them but they're not really equivalent.
They're not designed with cycling in mind.

Does it have a proper airflow system at the back? Can't see so in the pictures but says it does. I know one I bought from Lidl about 7 years ago had one. In my opinion it's the most important feature to have on a cycling backpack as there's nothing worse than sweating into the back of a backpack whilst cycling.

I would concur about brand snobs.......but experience has turned me into one.
For years I bought cheapish backpacks and always found that the fit/comfort and durability were not great.
Eventually about 15 years ago I paid out for a reasonably pricey Oakley backpack and all the problems found with previous backpacks become distant memories. It has been my daily companion ever since for all my commuting/cycling/walking/shopping etc. Last summer I decided to replace it purely because I fancied a change so I didn't even bother considering other brands, so you could argue that experience has turned me a brand snob but the old adage is sometimes true "buy cheap, buy twice (or more)"

I know there are a number of 'long pockets and short arms' people that view and participate on this site, but its worth getting Deuter or Osprey backpack for longevity.

Sorry but I disagree, deuter have gone down hill
Bought 2 different packs 2 months ago and both are ripping at the seems from not much use.
My osprey still going strong though so am going to be returning them to get some more ospreys
I don't know what's happened to deuter recently

about durability...I had one for a month before it started to rip. shame..lidl products used to be great quality. I will be avoiding. my fake north face that I bought for 3 quid in Thailand is way better.
