Yeah that what put me off buying at current prices, that was a storming price, if DR WHO appeared now and said I could have a go in the Tardis but only once, it would be a tough choice between saving Diana or getting the 750gb.

You know those dirty thoughts that you know you should never say out loud, like when you fancy that rather unattractive lunch lady, this is one of those thoughts.

is this definite and how long is this on for ? my store is not nearby

Started yesterday ends at the end of trading on Thursday, at your store you will see the posters on the window, not huge big things but when you buy something they have a code on the checkout they type in. BOO HISS BOO I bought a printer on Thursday for £77 quid, getting £40 in cash back but 15% would be an extra tenner. Might just take the receipt back and return and rebuy it.

Good price today but I am so glad I got my MX300 750Gb for £105 on black Friday. I did read SSD's were due to rise in price due to demand outstripping production capacity

That and the pound being worth loads less than it was before Brexit.
Political arguments aside - it now costs me an extra £20 quid every time I need a new hard drive.

That's half what they are charging online. How much do they make on these??

Probably nothing. They are simply raising cash by liquidating stock. All stores will be closing soon as Staples is going online-only (the UK arm was bought for £1 in a restructuring deal last year).

I did. Just confirming, becuase OP has a link to online store.

Hukd put that in automatically because if the deal is online they get commission from online sales.

Its just the normal Staples stores, they're rebranding to Office Outlet at some point and the receipt says Office Outlet.

Isn't this quite a lucky find as it's a 2 year old SSD? I don't mean it's a bad disk but usually they clear out this stuff out long before so there can't be many left?

Thanks OP, heat!
Got the last one from the Colchester store (was hoping for two to RAID them, but alas...).
They also had the 256GB version for £54.39 (Inc. discount, one only), in case anyone is in the area and fancies it.

Heads up that there's none in the Manchester or Altrincham stores, staff in both said they don't do internal drives, so you must have got lucky!

5 Mar 17#33
I'm stood in Office Outlet right now (was staples) and the 256gb is priced at 79.99. the 512gb is 149.. suggests this is an error to me
(Checked and out of stock. If you can find these drives they are excellent value and have better controllers than the later revisions I think - but would need to check that)

Or the store hasn't updated their prices - mine was listed at £119 on the shelf, but the manager said the price should be the same at all their stores (and they do price match).

While this would be a very good price, the MX100 512 GB drive has proven very poor quality in my experience.
I've personally had to RMA mine with only 1 year use and lost data when it failed. I know of 1 other person who owns one of these same 512 GB MX100 drives and his is currently performing very poorly (also only 1 year of use so far), requiring constant chkdisk to function. My sample size is indeed very small at 2 samples, but it is a 100% failure rate!
My comment is specifically about the MX100 512 GB drive.
Mine has been RMAed and replaced by Crucial with a MX300 500 GB drive which has so far been behaving very well. I also own a 256 GB version of the MX100 (2+ years now) and not had any problems with that either.

I just phoned my local Staples in Cardiff and they told me there are no Staples stores anymore and it's all office outlet now, even though they answered a phone number listed in Yell as being Staples.
Anyone actually gone to a store and got one of these yet?

It's funny (but also mildly frustrating, as I'm after a second one) seeing these pop-up on eBay now with a ~£50 mark-up. If anyone is looking to off-load one (and obviously make a little on it) please get in touch.
I'm a little embarrassed to admit that I feel the need to have matching drives - you're absolutely right though (I had seen that deal) and common sense should prevail...

Totally agree especially if you want to use it as a boot disk PC or Mac. If you will only be storing data on it you wont notice any lag.
This recommended M300 cut my MacOS 10.10 boot time to login prompt from 65 seconds to 16 on a 2009 MacBook Pro. The Staples MC100 will be around 30 secs from past experience.
