This deal just gets better. Just renewed my policy through Groupon for £39 (£42.54 direct) It was always a good deal covering the policy holder & spouse or civil partner in any vehicle but now you no longer have to pay at the roadside then claim the money back from Autoaid. They now organise roadside assistance and recovery etc, just like the big boys do, the only payment you make is for the annual policy and if you need it, the hotel accommodation which you then claim back. Do read the small print. Hope this is of use to someone.

Thanks for calling me out like that. I'm amazed at how many people have plenty to say on other people's errors, but haven't ever posted a single deal for the benefit of the community. Keep up the good critique....

I'll say it again, congratulations on calling out my error, I was trying to offer my experience with AutoAid. But yeah, thanks, I didn't read the original post fully, boo hoo, though I did go to the AutoAid website despite your clairvoyant assertion to the contrary.

I was with Start Rescue, £30ish a year. Had two call outs, both there within an hour which is more than I can say about the AA. Limited experience but they left us in the middle of winter on the M1 slip road for two hours. Can't see sense in spending 3-4 times the price of Start Rescue on AA or RAC

In point of fact I went to AutoAid's website to confirm before I posted, and found the following (which has already been pointed out by others as misleading, if not confirming my statement):
"5. Does AutoAid cover home breakdowns?
Yes. If your breakdown occurs at your home, AutoAid Breakdown will arrange help and reimburse any call-out fees and labour charges needed to get you on your way."
But again, how clever of you to point out what I missed from the original post. And yet I'd put money on most people thinking that you look like the bigger p****.
Post some deals, make a positive contribution to the site, then start criticising whomever you like.

Except to cover me for car and motorbike (personal) home, roadside and recovery, it would be £73.22, compared to Autoaid's £42.54 - and that's not including partner, who's covered under Autoaid.
Maybe good for some people on a 1 vehicle policy but not necessarily best for everyone.

Correct but I have nothing to loose as I have used them before with no problems and for full uk breakdown and recovery for 2 people for £39 Can't complain
speedygonzalez
27 Mar 17#45
I have been with them for about 10 years, with no complaint whatsoever. I have noticed that the Home start service is now a little different, it used to be:
"We will refund call-out fees and labour charges needed to start the vehicle (up to the maximum quoted in the Document of Insurance)", which used to cap at £60 and if there was any money leftover may contribute to the cost of tow to garage of choice if necessary.
Now it is:
"If your breakdown occurs at your home, we will arrange help. If the car can’t be repaired quickly at the scene of the breakdown, we will cover the cost of taking the car to the nearest available garage up to a maximum of £65.", which seems like an improvement, because the £65 does not include the "cost inclusive" repair attempt at home.
Cheers!

I imagine the vast majority of breakdown callouts are flat batteries and tyres. The agents they use will fix that for you. Most of them won't do much parts replacement though. They'll relay you to your local garage from wherever.
This £40 cost, though, includes at-home service. The 'big-boys' usually charge extra.
We've had this cover for many years and never been let down when we've needed them.

They only recently changed the conditions about not having to pay & claim now. Dont know why they haven't updated their website yet.
"Important changes to your AutoAid policy
With immediate effect you are no longer required to pay for the breakdown assistance services provided by this policy and then reclaim them from AutoAid.
If you require breakdown assistance please call our 24 hour helpline on 0800 328 4439 or 01277 720700. AutoAid will deal directly with the recovery agent regarding any costs and you will not be required to pay the recovery agent at the roadside.
The procedure described on Page 8 of your Policy Booklet (Claims Procedure) no longer applies to breakdown assistance services."

It just states to ring them up and they will arrange emergency assistance. That's it now, just the same as the big boys do: AA, RAC, Greenflag etc. I only found out when I renewed and they sent me my documents with an 'important changes' : "with immediate effect you are no longer required to pay for the breakdown assistance services provided by this policy and then reclaim them from Autoaid" nuff said.

I've been with Autoaid for a for a few years and had to use them last summer when my Suzuki died on me in the Northumberland countryside. They got someone to me in just over an hour and I was impressed by the fact that it was a proper bike specific repair service with a bike transport van.

Depends what you want in a breakdown company. AA and RAC have mechanics employed by them to come out and try and fix your car, any other company out there pay fees to contract garages to attend, the contract garages will do the minimum they can to make the most from their fee I would think. The AA and RAC will also use contractors when a patrol is not available and increasingly their patrols targets are shifting towards quantity rather than quality. Personally I think if you just want to make sure you can get home if you do breakdown then this deal is really good.
