While I don't think a water filter is a necessity for everyone, I previously lived in an area where the water hardness was >400 mmol/L, which tastes like iron filings and destroyed my kettle in a matter of weeks. I bought this exact model of filter with three replacement cartridges for €16 on sale and had no problems since. Tea and coffee tasted better, looked better - and my appliances lasted longer. Now I live in the Midlands (which still has relatively hard water) and still use the same filter.
This is a good deal.

Thanks for sharing, but it is shame to see there are people who do appeal to authority, but i guess this scam is crafted for people like that.
Yes Brita filters do work to remove bigger particles, rust from the pipes usually. And there is no such thing as "hard water" in UK. There is simply water with more or less amount of chemical, usually fluoride or any other disinfectant.
There is official chart which states which areas get what levels of fluoride, which is essentially nothing but poison which "calcify" your body. And there is no effective carbon filter which removes any tap chemical out of water which supposed to be main concern.
If tap water wouldn't be "treated", your tap would be green from "life", not white from chemicals. If these filters would work, filtered water would be safe to use in your fish tank - but it is not. It is not even healthy for your heating system or Iron, why would YOU drink it?
Under lab tests brita filter DOES remove around 25% of impurities, but all 100% of chemicals which ARE added by man remains there. Plus our and my friends family do distil tap water and we can literally SEE what is left after you separate pure water from the chemicals. Trust me, it is not very pleasant view. And out of curiosity we did distil spring water and "leftovers" was nothing like tap water.
In any case, it matters how clean you want your water. A little bit cleaner or clean, pure as nature offers (rain = distilled).

Not quite sure what you mean there; "hard water" simply refers to the amount of mineral content in the water (usually calcium carbonate). The UK government uses such terminology in its map of water hardness for England and Wales. These filters aren't designed for removing fluoride, nor do they claim to do so.
The water in my region isn't too bad, but I suspect the real contaminants now come from the highly questionable plumbing at my workplace, on which the filter seems to work equally well.

Interesting that "water hardness map" nearly perfectly matching fluoridated map areas. I hope you understand that in tap water there is significantly less amount minerals versus chemicals? But again, it depends to who do you appeal/ trust. Do your own experiments and you will see.

So wouldnt it simply be easier to boil tap water in a kettle then drink it once cooled? All the chemicals put in tap water may very well be the cause of the increase in cancer. - something to ponder on!!

It was my kettle that was being destroyed in the first place, that was the reason I bought the filter. Limescale corroded the heating element, and simply filtering the water worked out cheaper than buying descaler every few weeks.

I can never understand hukd. This gets heat, yet the other one which is red and cheaper, which also has an extra 2 filters, is as cold as the North Pole.
