Echo dot can't connect directly to your nas drive to play music on your network, this has both wifi and bluetooth, also optical out to connect to better dac, echo dot can only connect by 3.5mm or bluetooth

Also hopefully the dac in the bose will be better

Must be a fair profit margin on these, if they can afford to drop the price by this much.

Sorry, I'm out of my depth here - I just know that they are similar to Sonus - you can play music streaming on wifi around the house with or without proprietary speakers. Not sure what chrome cast does. The sonus link is usually approx £350. This is just dedicated to music playing and not other internet related services (speech recognition etc).

Amazon music still doesnt work over wifi/bose app, can connect phone or echo by Bluetooth, which is pretty poor, works in usa!

I believe that this will only work with the Bose app.

I didn't realise amazon music didn't work in U.K. It said it was compatible when I'd read about it. Obviously on a USA website. NB having just checked the web again BOSE are advertising amazon music compatibility on the UK sites - pretty naughty as they are apparently still trying to get copyright for amazon, apple etc etc.

And at least it was cheaper than some poor folks have paid, under the illusion amazon music would work.

You can still use it on your phone/computer and just bluetooth it to the bose with the obvious drop off in quality, it only doesnt work over wifi, the bose website says they are working on it snd said should arrive early 2017 although we are nearly in April!

Seemed to be some issues connecting to echo dot by bluetooth, said connected on both devices but sound coming from dot still, might have been in my setup as was using with headphone rig and my earphones needed charging so kept turning off so might have redirected back to dot, will try again later today.

For how im using it at minute would have been cheaper to buy a Chromecast audio and that would sound better

It has Bluetooth but don't know what aptx is??
Anyway - we have set it up now and I'm really pleased with it - even after my earlier grumbling. The Bluetooth is (to my ears) great sound quality and the wifi streaming via the MacBook is brill. The app seems a little stodgy mind.
The amp we are connecting to is a 'Cambridge audio' the speakers are two tall 'monitor' and a 'tannoy' sub/surround sound.

I thing APTX is a version of Bluetooth that provides "CD quality"....I too have a Cambridge amplifier!, hooked up to some JPW speakers.

Would you say the sound quality is as good as CD quality (to your ears) via Bluetooth? Thanks!

Agreed, Chromecast audio also has optical out through its 3.5mm jack, so if you don't need Bluetooth it's better value.

Totally off topic but what would I need to stream from my current hard wired speaker system to wireless speakers.
As I want to keep my 7.1 system going downstairs but put wireless speakers around the house?

The Bose soundtouch link will play via your old speakers AND their wireless speakers etc. The sonus will do the same. I believe the chromecast will also do the same. I'm learning off the cuff here though :wink:
I guess the chromecast audio is the cheapest product on the market to stream wifi etc (not Bluetooth) - not brill with apple products apparently though. I don't know how the quality of chromecast compares to Bose. I think the price drop of Bose is due to the chromecast prices disrupting the market.

why not use a Chilli plug approx £25 to get bluetooth to your speakers/dock
used one with a bose sound dock to make it bluetooth from my iphone
chilli plug connects to sounddock via 3,5mm plug
works great
