An app where the user provides a bit of their time for free.
Description
Be the eyes for a blind person in need of help remotely through a live video connection if you are sighted or be assisted by the network of sighted users if you are blind.
Be My Eyes is all about contributing to and benefiting from small acts of kindness, so hop on board and get involved!
Blind users can request help from a sighted person and the sighted users will then be called for help. As soon as the first sighted user accepts the request for help a live audio-video connection will be set up between the two and the sighted user can tell the blind person what she sees when the blind user points his phone at something using the rear-facing camera.
As a sighted user you don't need to worry about missing a call and 'leave a blind person hanging' - you are a part of the bigger Be My Eyes helper-network and we will find the next available sighted person in the network. The challenges that the blind person needs help with can be anything from knowing the expiry date on the milk to getting help crossing the street.
Note: We encourage blind users to be patient when requesting help because we rely on real people to help you.
- Live audio-video connection between blind and sighted users - Add the languages you know under settings - An easy way you can make a difference for blind people
Android version is under development.

Good concept. :-)
Is there an Android version of this App too?, or ..... thanx. :-)
there are a number of apps which allow the visually impaired to navigate by touch along with standard software in iPhone (voiceover) and Android (talkback)

The majority of the blind community use a smartphone as it's the best software out there as all apple technology comes with a voice over setting. You can also use you're smartphone through Siri as you can call text etc... This technology is very relevant and highly helpful for the blind community.
Just because some one is blind doesn't mean they are incapable or have no common sense of course there are trolls but just like you or me there going to figure this out!!!

People who are legally blind can sometimes see enough to use a smartphone using features to enlarge text and icons and with the aid of magnifying lenses, etc.
There's also dictation functions which are very useful.
Just search YouTube for how blind people use iPhones/iPads.

My daughter signed up for this several weeks ago and so far has had one call for help. I guess its new and will take time to grow and a person who has spent a long time being very rescouceful isn't going to ask for help at the drop of a hat. The point is that help is given freely when needed if there is no call, help isn't needed.

Great idea but ...... How many blind smartphone users are there? Touch screen phones don't lend themselves to being blind user friendly
And would you be happy trusting some potentially random internet troll help you"cross the road"
