If you want an iPhone then this is a great price, if not go elsewhere let people spend their money how they want.

With regards to tax dodging our governments need to sort out the loopholes, but they won't so corporations will exploit them. Cheap £150 phones probably come from China via europe without any VAT been collected so who's dodging tax then.

"I posted this deal because I wanted your views on it is it worth the price it also comes with 12 months manufacture warranty for extra peace of mind."

You should get 2 years from Apple as it's brand new/sealed box, therefore once you open/register they'll treat it as a new phone?

29 Mar 17 #12
The yawn was an expression of "not that question again!" rather than the authenticity of the poster's concern. The common misconception is that it's a widespread practice when in fact it is not - in fact it's only DCP that do this being the only real high-street all-networks retailer out there. This deal is from Smartfonestore, not DCP. The myth is that it's widespread (granted I should have said that) - in the UK it's one retailer.
plewis00
29 Mar 17 2 #13
Yawn, stop feeding misinformation... iPhones from CPW/DSGi and possibly Argos (I can't remember) do lock to the first network they are used on. Only new iPhones sourced from Apple and John Lewis do not. As you cannot confirm the original source of the phones from Smartfonestore you cannot answer the question someone had legitimately asked.

Smartfonestore are likely buying traded-in phones that could've come from anywhere, in fact there's a greater chance of them being from CPW or similar on contract as who would buy it from Apple or JL full-price then trade it in? Not saying it's impossible just unlikely.
Sid.Harper
29 Mar 17 #14
Argos don't lock. I've got in front of me that I changed the SIM on two days ago. And one from Very - same thing. And I'm pretty sure SFS doesn't source from from DCP - they channel their phones into their own businesses, even returns are sold as refurbs via outlets like e2save.
plewis00
29 Mar 17 2 #15
I admitted I may have been wrong about Argos but it is very much not a myth and Smartfonestore are not an authorised reseller so you won't be sure it's truly unlocked til you try. It is possible it's fully unlocked but not guaranteed - at the end of the day, most people don't have many network SIMs to try this out. And actually I wasn't trying to have a go, only state it's not a myth.

Apple will only provide one years manufactures warranty is from the date of activation.
Sid.Harper
29 Mar 17 1 #19
Yes I should have qualified "myth" - too strong a word on its own. It's possible it could have gone to SFS having been bought in DCP but they will no doubt appraise the item given the volume of stock they shift. Same goes for the likes of CEX. While we're here we should also remind people that even unlocked by your network, as far as I know, a DCP phone will not accept foreign SIMs. I found that recently with a 5s unlocked by O2 that I took abroad.

Shame there aren't any flux capacitors around - the Very deal was fantastic too - I snapped up a 64GB SE last week at 340 before the 128GB came out but it had been used so unable to return. That said, I find 128GB a bit unmanageable (in terms of time to back up, risk of losing loads as having more storage discourages frequent backups, etc.). 64GB seems to take an hour as it is!

£600 for a mobile phone. Hahahahaha. Just why? Please tell me it's not because there's an Apple logo on the back.

I find it extraordinary that people will spend this on a phone. Everyone is, metaphorically, now buying Ferraris to go to the supermarket. Or more specifically people are paying a LOT of money to play Candy Crush, answer emails, mindlessly flick through social media streams or watch Netflix. Given that a £150-£200 phone will do that perfectly well, why oh why would you empty your pockets to line those of a tax dodging bunch of ***** like Apple?

29 Mar 17 #24
Bit of a misnomer really, warranties. I know the Sale of Goods Act 1979 has in part been superceded by Consumer Rights Act 2015, but if you've spent £600 on a phone then you have a right to expect it to last longer than 12 months and a court would agree with you. Granted, that's a lot of aggravation, but it's your right nonetheless..
argosextra
29 Mar 17 #25
I spoke to Smartfone store and they said it will be unlocked to all networks if it isn't then you can return it within 10 day no quibble returns policy for a full refund
chesneybarnieh
29 Mar 17 #26
Apple never give warranty over 2 years they have a limited one year warranty, well you could get applecare which would extended the covergae to 2 years. You can also claim under consumer law if you notify the seller of a fault a item within 2 years (this will not cover accidental damage, or battery related issues). in the case of this phone you would have contact smartfone store to make a consumer law claim. I tend to buy my phones from the apple store as they allow me to claim under consumer law

Bought many phones from smartfone,

Remember all phones from them are second hand, even the ones they claim are brand new.. but they are just used sealed ones no difference

My only concern is if the customer that has sold it to smartfonestore/phonebank reports it as lost or stolen or fails to pay the bill on there contract

Then the device will lose signal and stop working for whoever purchases it. Don't know what happens if this does happen after 60 days
daBluone to MattBudd
29 Mar 17 #32
There is so much wrong with your post. A brand new sealed phone is brand new and sealed.

daBluone to danjrous

They are one of the best websites to buy from I have got my last two phones from them and they arrived the next day with no problems
MattBudd
29 Mar 17 2 #34
If I sent in my contract phone to them sealed?
And they sold it? Does it make the item used or new?
How do you think they are getting sealed units
MattBudd
29 Mar 17 #35
So you don't get confused when I say used I mean second hand
tom_g
29 Mar 17 #36
Surely that would be new, because it's not used or second hand really. If I bought a phone and sent it back sealed any retailer would still sell it as brand new.
argosextra
29 Mar 17 #37
If you open the seal then the phone is used and second hand whether you use the phone or not because seal is broken and it's not resealable so it gets sold as used

If the seal is intact then it's brand new you can't open a seal and put it back on unless you work for Apple and this phone is new from a reputable company that has been buying and selling phones for over 10 years there's nothing to worry about when you get 12 months warranty from Apple as well
MattBudd
29 Mar 17 #38
You always run the risk of them being reported stolen and blocked by a network even if they are being sold as "new"

They maybe sealed and sold as new but they have been sold via a network and on someone else's contract
argosextra to MattBudd
30 Mar 17 #42

Did anyone buy a brand new IPhone 7 from Smartfone store and get it reported stolen and blocked by a network please reply
tom_g
30 Mar 17 #40
This is a legitimate business so it's highly unlikely that would be an issue, and it is was I'm sure they'd sort it for you. Look through all the threads for this business and online reviews, I haven't seen that mentioned once.
argosextra to tom_g
30 Mar 17 #41
Yes I know I spoke to them earlier they said if there was any network issues or if your phone gets blocked within 1 day to 3 years or any other day they after that we will replace the phone for you and all you have to do is send this phone and £4.99 to cover the delivery costs
plewis00 to tom_g
30 Mar 17 #47
It doesn't matter how legitimate a business it is, there's not a lot they can do if the person who sold them the phone blocks it. Of course they can protect you (the end user) out of their own pocket but not a lot more. We get 1-2 handsets a year blocked after selling them, no matter how well we vet the seller.
qwerta369
30 Mar 17 #45
If you're smart just get Apple to replace the handset. Bingo. Clean IMEI.

You must put a sim in to activate any iPhone dear. It doesn't mean it's locked, that's how the phone works.

Can some one please tell me what is better a unlocked iPhone sealed from box or a sealed iPhone not unlocked but can get unlocked if requested or are both the same can someone help me please.

I bought a unlocked iPhone from Smartfone store they sold me a unlocked phone but it turns out it's locked to vodafone so I called them they said there's been a mixup with my order but they can unlock it for me it will take up to 10 days. Now what is the best option shall I do return it and get a full refund or wait for up to 10 days for them to unlock the phone for me can someone please help me.

What's the difference between a unlocked sealed iPhone 7 and a sealed iPhone 7 that needs to be unlocked after request

31 Mar 17 #49
One is unlocked and the other isn't. Sorry if it's confusing.

qwerta369
1 Apr 17 1 #51
You're seriously asking this question?
argosextra

nnenne

Lol
nnenne
2 Apr 17 #58
You're being ridiculous, it's locked and they'll unlock it for you. In that instance, no difference whatsoever, both will be unlocked and no difference whatsoever.

Would you prefer your car door delivered to you unlocked or someone unlocking it once delivered?

Once it's opened, doesn't matter if opened as it's being delivered or opened, once you've signed for delivery. It's open is all that matters surely. Doing my head in this.
argosextra
2 Apr 17 #59
There is a difference between a car and a iPhone because a car doesn't need unlocking but a iPhone does

Absolutely. Other than that, they're exactly the same.
argosextra
2 Apr 17 #61
