JL customer service is A+. purchased one a few weeks ago when they were on offer, had some issues and they just sent me a new one without question, didn't even have to return the other one

It's 30 odd pounds, why would you need 2 years warranty??
You would probably be hoping it would stop working so that you had an 'excuse' to treat yourself to a decent tablet.
Buy from a Tesco and you have 95p towards your new one.

Beats all other Fire Tablet deals just based on the 2 year warranty. You can also buy accidental damage warranty from John Lewis for a small price for complete peace of mind if you have kids

You say that mate, but IF the tablet gave up after a year (which in all probability, it wouldn't - if you ended up with a faulty one you it's most likely to show up in the first few days) it would have cost you 65p a week. We're not talking life changing sums of cash are we?
It's ridiculous how the 'JL 2 year warranty' steals heat and likes in every thread it's mentioned in (usually added to the main title for maximum theft), when the majority of the time it isn't truly beneficial.
Yes, if you're buying a £1,200 TV, or a MacBook, I get it, but on a £34 item??

This price could be considered as "normal", as it is currently being promoted on QVC @ £35, but with an added delivery charge of £4.95 ! The only real advantage with QVC is that you can use it and return without problems if you decide it is not suitable.

Ok its only a £35 device but hey, warranty for an extra year for les then a quid? Think you may well be in a minority on this one but each to their own

I bought one a few weeks ago and installed play no problem, have just downloaded a few games from google play and they work just fine. Was I just lucky, or have things changed now? Thanks

Well said!
95p for an additional year warranty, it's a no brainer!
Surely to protect against a possible fault on a tech product over 2 years is extremely helpful.
My Lenovo laptop died after a year and a half. How I would have jumped at the chance for less than a pound to have had an additional year's warranty... and the laptop was only cheap, but it's always worth having as much warranty as poss, especially with John Lewis customer service.

Agree for 95p extra you are getting better customer service and 1 extra year warranty. Ordering one for my kids for the car as my Nexus 7 has finally packed in (crap battery and only charges wirelessly!)

I think everyone has misunderstood my point.
It's not the extra 95p that's the issue, it's that most of us live much closer to a Tesco or an Argos than a John Lewis.
The extra years warranty on this item is really not necessary, and a cheaper deal was already posted and hot.

Very disappointed in my Kindle Fire 7 I bought at Christmas. It is so *slow*, I end up using my iPhone or iPad Air 2.

So you already had an Air 2, and was surprised this wasn't really an upgrade from it?
Bit odd that, I currently have an iPad Pro and would find this literally horrible to use.

Tempted, but I'm after a cheap tablet that I can use Netflix on to download for when I'm travelling, from what I can gather this isn't available on Amazon Fire products, does anyone know any different?

Netflix is available to download on the fire.

Install Google Play and download as normal. It works fine and allows you to download as with any other device. Alas the same cant be said for Now TV. Can install it but wont run as Amazon fire is an unsupported device

hmm. it does depend on the software version. maybe you had an older version of the software. it's not impossible..just not ready yet.

Sorry, yes I know the app can be downloaded and used to stream, but I don't think content can be downloaded and watched offline, from what I can gather this is only available on IOS/Android?
