This deal is based on 2 adults flying out to Dubrovnik from London Gatwick on Tuesday 16th May returning Thursday 25th May.
You will be staying for 3 nights in Dubrovnik, 1 night in Mostar, 1 night in Niksic, 2 nights in Podgorica and 2 nights in Budva.
Each of the hotels I've chosen have great reviews on TripAdvisor, have free parking and are close to the centre of town or nearby beaches.
Croatia - Dubrovnik
16th May - Pick up the car hire and check into Dubrovnik hotel. I've chosen the 3* Apartments Vujović which is a 15 minute walk from the heart of Dubrovnik.
17th - 18th May - Explore Dubrovnik.
Bosnia Herzegovina - Mostar
19th May - Check out early and drive just over 2 hours to Mostar. Spend the day exploring Mostar. I've chosen the Guest House Mostar Story which is located only 450 yards to the famous Mostar Bridge.
20th May - Spend the day exploring Mostar. Drive 2 and a half hours to Niksic. I have chosen Apartments Koprivica Niksic which is around a 5 minute drive to the heart of the city.
Niksic - Montenegro
21st - Spend the day exploring Niksic. Drive an hour to Podgorica and check into the Apartment in Podgorica which is in the heart of Podgorica.
Podgorica - Montenegro
22nd - Explore Podgorica.
23rd - Explore Podgorica drive an hour to south to Budva. Check into the 3* Apartments Fortunella which is located just 1000 yards from the nearest beach.
Budva - Montenegro
24th - Relax on a beach in Budva.
25th - Check out and spend half day in Budva catching the last of the sun. Make sure you leave yourself enough time to get to the airport on the last day as it's just under a 2 hour drive away which includes a ferry crossing!
When picking up the car you have to ensure you tell them about crossing the boarder as they need to be informed. There is a €25 charge at the desk you will need to pay for crossing boarders.
This deal only includes hand luggage which on Monarch is a 10kg trolley hand baggage and a small personal item. If you wanted to add a 20kg suitcase onto the trip it costs £50pp return.
There are also cheaper car hires available however these have bad reviews compared to the car hire company I have chosen.
Price breakdown
Flights booked with Monarch - £96
All hotels booked through Booking.com - £101 / £17 / £19 / £61 / £28
Car hire booked through Vehiclerent - £63.30
Total price for 2 people - £385.30
Total price each - £192.65

Having been to the area last summer I'd make a couple of recommendations :
1- Avoid Budva. It's tacky, plastic and is just a beach rammed full of Russians. Instead go in land to Lake Skadar and take a boat trip from Virpazar. It's beautiful!
2 - Niksic hasn't got much going for it. I'd suggest Cetinje and go up the mountain or go to Kotor instead. Podgorica isn't a very exciting place either!
3 - You'll need more time than you've allowed for border crossings, stick in an extra 30 Mins especially for non EU borders
Happy to help anyone out with further info if they want
Voted hot though as it's the framework for a brilliant trip!

Flew back from Croatia last night. Loved it. People were nice. Stunning scenery along the coast. Would highly recommend this a holiday destination. Drove from Split though Bosnia to Dubrovnik. No problems at all.

Great post. Wife and I did a very similar trip last year. Sadly we didn't like Bosnia (people were not very friendly and stole the hub caps of our hire car lol).
However, Montenegro was incredible. Anyone thinking about this should really go there. We stayed AirBNB and the incredible fortress wall (smaller version of wall of china) was outside our balcony which was brilliant.
Loved Croatia so much we're returning in a few weeks. Great people, fantastic food, memorable scenery you won't forget.

We did a similar road trip last summer. Croatian coast from Slovenia then into Bosnia- specifically Mostar and Sarajevo. Amazing country totally underrated. Can't vouch for Montenegro but heard good things from friends who've been to Kotor. You need to ensure you're covered to cross borders between EU & non-EU. You will probably have to pay additional fees for this but it varies significantly between rental companies. Recommend you read the fine print beforehand to ensure you're covered (insurance).

What's the "Airport fee" on vehicle-rent? Looks to be about £30, but what exactly is it?

You needn't be worried about that kind of thing, it's a safe and stable part of the world. Although I do think they suggest avoid going off road in Bosnia due to land mines

Heat, great find. I would love to buy this holiday, unfortunately as a teacher I can never get deals like this. Instead price will be 4 times this during summer holidays.

We ended up spending more time in Mostar than Dubrovnik on a short trip a couple of years ago. Such an interesting place, and the people we met were much more friendly

Fabulous part of the world. Went to Montenegro last year and loved it. Beaches and sea beautiful; great weather. Safe -Germany And France are ex war zones too as well as lots of other parts of the works people visit regularly. Kotor is beautiful. Budva ok for a short visit.

What are the rules on taking the car into Bosnia from Croatia? I only ask as I'm doing kind of a backwards trip but using other transport.
Having started in Vienna and finally got to Sarajevo, i pass through Mostar before ending up in Dubrovnik and had looked at the car option for the last leg but saw the odd comments about some companies not allowing it.

Different car hire places have different rules and regulations, we went into Bosnia with our car hire from Croatia with no problems i think the majority let you if you inform them in advance!
