I have to hold my 6.4" Sony X Z Ultra too close for comfort to see the pixels.

I'm hoping there will be a Samsung Galaxy S8+ with 6.2" screen as rumoured to replace my ageing X Z Ultra.

I almost went with this one but ended up splashing out for the Mi Mix instead. If this is anywhere near as good as the one I have, then I'd say go for it.

For interested people, there is now a Global version of the Redmi Note 4 for about £50 less. Unfortunately, it's only 3/32Gb with no expansion capability.

I don't agree that 1080p is not enough for a 6.4" screen. It looks just as sharp as the higher ppi stuff and won't drink the battery like a 2K screen.

Agree - I had a Sony Xperia Z Ultra and that is 6.4" at 1080p and is perfectly fine, I never felt like I wanted more. In fact, I've never really felt the iPhone 7 needed more resolution. I'd go so far to say that if there was an option on high-end phones for 1080p, 2K or 4K displays but hardware otherwise the same I would take the 1080p option - the big problem is that when you have 'lesser' panels you also get slower SoCs, worse build quality, etc.

Whilst I'm not an advocate of all the manufacturers needlessly sticking 1440p panels into the phones, at this size it probably needs one. The dpi and 1080p is noticeably low.

Interesting. At least with so many people being content with 22" 1080p monitors. You can often change DPI without root these days too.

Saying a phone of this size at 1080p is noticeably low and that it probably needs 1440p is just a mindset caused by phone manufacturers enticing people with higher resolutions/PPI. If you look at resolutions for 7-10" sized tablets even 1080p would be very uncommon. Almost all 7" or 8" tablets on the market currently from likes of Asus, Acer, Samsung and Lenovo have 1280*800 screens. Amazon's 7" Fire tablet uses a 1024*600 resolution, whereas their 8" and 10" models described as "HD" have 1280*800. All of Amazon's Fire tablets have screens under 200PPI. A 6.44" screen at 1080p would be 342PPI. You might debate that a phone would be held closer to the face therefore more noticeable but to put it into perspective, a 5" screen at 720p would be 293PPI. Lots of sub £200 5" phones use 720p.

Free shipping avoids duty, although you could get unlucky. Express shipping always comes with duty to add... That's what I heard. Have 3 Chinese phones and avoided duty so far. I always go for free delivery

I have the 32GB version and it's been a decent enough phone, great for media consumption with the big screen. I put nova launcher on it to hide the horrid MIUI. Hopefully the Nougat update will arrive in the next few months (through MIUI9).

Since nobody seems to have pointed it out, it's worth noting that this version has an octa-core Snapdragon 652 whereas the 3/32GB version which has been posted a few times in the past for around £150, has a hexa-core Snapdragon 650. Probably not a huge performance boost when it comes to standard daily tasks though. Thought this phone was around £145 with international rom... Well it was.. Works fine on 02 but no 4g. 3g is fine though and good enough for most things. 4g dose work at Gatwick though as not on band 20 around there which was a surprise

£145 was for a 3g ram 32 g rom version. Which I have. And think its great. I am on the 3 network and have had no probs with it whatsoever.

and normally in my local area I get on 3 network my internet speed is around over mbs each time, when I check it online on internet speed test app

That's good - I ment it would still work with Three and EE, but only on the other 4G bands and not band 20 (which Three have quite a lot of now and EE are rolling out).

Must admit I'm happy with Three's 3G data speeds, but band 20 is good for 4G building penitration and also in the sticks.

I only get a decent signal with Three on band 20 as it's a lower frequency (the higher frequencies on 3G and 4G don't penitrate the walls).

Worth mentioning, the Mi Max 2 is supposedly just around the corner (rumoured for May) and it should be using the Snapdragon 660.

Worth waiting imo.

Looks a great phone and was tempted until I noticed no band 20 (800mhz) which O2 and Vodafone use for nearly all their 4G, Three for their "SuperVoice" for rural coverage/building penitration and I believe even EE have started to use some band 20 now?

Won't totally stop it working on Three and maybe EE, but may struggle more inside buildings and out in the sticks on 4G.

Forget Band20, for this price you could just not put a sim card in at all and just use it as a tablet. I currently cannot find my Nexus 7 and did look at this as a possible replacement/upgrade to use without a sim and just use wifi

If you are fine with 64 GB of storage(which is expandable) you can have one for £168 from aliexpress(+8% TCBcashback). The 32GB version can be found even cheaper, I suppose. But it seems to be good price for 128GB version.
