Shame it's reference but a great price for an 8gb card. By now I'd think you'd get a newer build card without the initial issues

Ill wait for RX 490, thats probably out soon and thats why the prices are going down
Its apparently as fast as GTX 1080, twice the price of 480 so its gonna be like £350 for 8gb,

With SLI/CF scaling hit and miss nowadays you may want to revise your plan?
Or just grab a couple of 480's unless you've got limited space.

It's rumored to be as fast as the 1080 at DOOM. That's the only game we've seen, and there were concerns that it wasn't even meeting the 1080 in the Vulkan title.
If the rumors are true, this 490 would be akin to a double GPU on a single card, similar to what AMD did with the 295x.
That's actually pretty bad news if it turns out true.
Also: Vega is 'confirmed' to be launching in second quarter of this year.
So, when we consider just how the 480 stacked up in SLI, we'd like reach the same conclusion: It's not worth 400 quid, you might as well buy a 1070 at 50 quid less.
Anyway, it's too much conjecture, so we'll have to wait for benches and demos of the card.

Is the stock blower just loud or causes overheating issues as well? I can deal with noise, thats fine.

Both. Thermals are better on non-blower cards (in most cases).

I'd agree with a lot of that, with an addition... One thing BIG consideration for a lot of people who are gamers (which most people spending £400 on a card will be) is G-Sync (Nvidia) based monitors are often considerably more expensive than their FreeSync equivalents. I am not saying one way or the other, but I'd wait for Vega before spending on a 1070 now... although it may turn out to be the correct decision. We'll have to wait for the benchmarks as you say.

It may not be £400, its rumoured to be about £350 so GTX 1070 price but 1080 power

The 490 will sit between the 1070 and 1080. It doesn't make sense for them to engineer something to beat the 1080 even if it were possible as that effectively devalues the Vega proposition.
The 490 is almost certainly a mGPU Polaris card and perhaps not Vega architecture, nowhere have I seen listings of HBM2 and that's partly what will distinguish what Vega is, huge bus, ultra quick memory.
In terms of benchmarks there was Doom, but more significant was the synthetic benchmarks which showed the 490 'Pro' beating the 1070.
Vega cards will sit on top of that and compete with the 1080 and the rumoured 1080ti, at least that's the way you should build a product line.
Of note though was the listing for Fallout 4 High Resolution this week which specified a 490 8GB or 1080 8GB card, not a 1070. This perhaps also means there may be a 4GB variant?
Anything that doesn't perform significantly better than the Fury/Fury X given how close it is to the 1070 is also a waste of time, they should be looking to convert as many of those enthusiasts as possible which given Vega makes it already very difficult and I doubt many 480 owners will be looking for such a quick jump.
I'd be surprised if it wasn't bang in the middle of the 1070 and 1080, that leaves room for Nvidia to push a 1070ti.
Either way it will be the best GPU AMD have currently manufactured in line with the excellent 290 and 390.

It isn't rumored at 1080 power, really, nobody is making that claim.
The only thing people are suggesting is that it comes close in DOOM. Even then, it isn't at 1080.

There is nothing "significant" about news for which the only source is WCCF - even you yourself pointed out that they were wrong in your exact same comment where you're stating that their claims are significant. It's not without reason that they are banned as a news source from tech subreddits.
And - in case you've forgotten since yesterday - even they said to take these "alleged" benchmarks with "a pinch of salt"! You know something's fishy when a dodgy site warns their information may be dodgy!
Funnily enough, you keep skipping the "alleged" and "pinch of salt" parts of WCCF's article when you comment here stating the claims as fact. I wonder why that is..? :man:

Might be worth a look?Listed as 8gb version when you type in there search for an rx-480 but when you click on it title changes to 4gb but all info including part number is 8gb.
But best to get confirmation from them fist that it is the 8gb card.
looks like price back down now so needs to be unexpired. I ordered 2 at this price that will replace my single 290x nicely. Heat added to your post and my rig

Noob question, I'm running an old XPS desktop with an i7-3770 running @ 3.40Ghz and 12gb RAM, if I buy this and change my current graphics card would it make my PC passable at running games at a half-decent speed? I'm guessing not but would appreciate any advice. Thank you.

Should be OK to swap. check power supply is enough and connectors fit, either 6 or 8 pin. Make sure space in case to fit new card. finish it off with a cheap 120gb SSD while you're at it.

WCCF reported that AMD 490 would be released in December, which obviously has come and gone.
So the rumor mill is quiet about the '490' and if it will be this dual GPU or if it will just be Vega.
It's bad news if it's a dual GPU, because we can peg the performance to the 480 in SLI,
The previous iterations of AMDs double GPU single card have shown nearly identical performance.
