Best Wii u deal so far? I recently ordered 2nd hand used one from ebay for £125 to just play Zelda BOTW on it as I am a big Zelda fan, arrived with a crack in the tablet screen, big scratches all over it and a missing stylus, it worked (gods knows how) but awful condition

Opened a case in ebay, they offered me partial refund of £25 to get it down to £100 was umming and ahhing for a couple of days til I saw this, going to send the used one back free of charge and have now ordered this

Just for anyone caught in two minds between this and Switch, the Switch is a portable device. It can be taken and played anywhere.

You can only use the Wii U Gamepad within about 10 ft of the console.

Switch is getting Mario Kart 8 with DLC tracks included in May and Splatoon 2 later in the summer.

This will be peanuts on Cex in 6-12 months.

Hoping more low deals start now its being discontinued. Buy it, store it and start buying the back catalogue at heavliy discounted prices. This will be retro in a few years.... much like the Dreamcast.

Early previews say you can't see the screen if the sun is shining on it and with the recent issues with the Joycons not responding from certain lengths away from the console, I'd be very wary of buying a Switch on launch when it has so few games releasing.

You can play Mario Kart 8 right now on this for £150 plus the price of the DLC (around £15 if my memory is correct) vs the £280 for the Switch and £40 for Mario Kart 8. It's a no brainer. The Switch being portable doesn't add that much value in my opinion.

£205 for this bundle with Zelda BOTW + MK8 DLC
£365 for the Switch with Zelda and Mario Kart

A year or so after the Wii came out, GameCube consoles were pretty much £10 - £15 in second-hand stores IIRC. GameCube didn't sell well either. Plus, guy in CEX told me loads of people have been coming in recently to sell their Wii, Wii U and Xbox One consoles to get a Switch pre-order. :confused:

Tbh Nintendo will kill the Wii U servers so fast, it's not even worth it. They have a history of this and once they do the Wii U is worthless and so are games like Splatoon...

Maybe not if it drops to £250 or less by Christmas with a pack-in game... Collectors will want to collect Wii Us with it being quite a rare console by all accounts so you might gain - not lose - by the time you come to sell it on. They stopped making Wii Us last year, so deals like this will not be common.

EDIT - also a possible hardware revision if the dodgy left JoyCon reports turns out to be hardware related.

Yeah for collectors this is or was a great deal. Personally, I'd rather spend the extra £150 for a console that will be the company's focus for the next five years. I will be waiting a couple of months to see how the Switch launch shakes out though.

No official confirmation on the cost to play Switch online yet, but if you go by the Japanese price it's looking like it's going to be around £20 for the year - £1.66 a month.

Great price, I've had my Wii U from launch now so I'm ready to move onto the switch next week. Still for someone who wants a system with a back catalogue of awesome ninty games you can get for cheap now, this is the best deal around.

We'll have to see I guess, the Wii had full backward compatibiltiy with the GC's games, controllers and memory cards so there was literally no point in keeping it (think I threw mine out in the end and just kept the pads, games and mem card). With the switch being cartridge based, it's a slightly different situation. Bit of a strange one as people are happy to buy Nintendo consoles for Nintendo exclusives, so it's not like the PS2 where you'd not give two hoots about ditching old copies of FIFA for example.

I've had my Wii U for 3 years and 3 months now (according to this HUKD deal) Truth is I don't know if I need a Switch when I've got all the big Nintendo games in HD. When they get round to releasing some new IP I might get involved.

Complete misinformation. Nintendo never killed the Wii's servers by choice. That was GameSpy's servers that shut down and Nintendo relied on them for online services.

If anything were to happen to servers for Wii U games, it would be on a game-by-game basis - for example, Devil's Third.

Mine works fine in the upstairs loo which is way more than 10ft away from the Wii U.

Yeah I can only use mine in the same room as the console. I've attempted it in other rooms and it does pick it up but cuts out too frequently to play.

Received mine today but it isn't sealed like the way Nintendo consoles usually are. Wondering how other peoples consoles have turned up - sealed or unsealed?

I picked mine up on the day from store, the box didn't seem to have any stickers across the cardboard edges that I could see. Although everything in the box was sealed and wrapped as expected from a new console.

Sure but that was a total one off from a single retailer and it wasn't nationwide either. There were other sporadic clearances from other retailers that never came close to matching that one. That Tesco deal was a magnificent one for those that got it but it was never matched and never repeated.

Thought it was national as my local (in northern ireland) had it and they never ever have any of those sort of deals lol. I missed it as i thought no point in asking.
