Will you give it a rest and stop thread spoiling? If you think the deal isn't good (which it is) then vote cold and move along.

I've got a New 3DS and a 2DS. I've given the 3DS to the wife as I prefer the feel of the 2DS. It holds better in my hands.

I don't know why you refuse to accept that a clamshell design with a hinge will eventually loosen/break if used by a young child. Yes, Nitnendo have improve the design since the NDS but it is still an issue. Also, the 3D effect (even the improved one is drastically overrated and is a glorified gimmick. You can switch it off but why pay the extra just to do that?

This has got to be one of the longest running feuds with a user and a specific product. Every time a 2DS deal is posted or even mentioned you appear and spout your bias.

Up the 2DS. Especially when you can pick up brand new ones for <£50 if you know where to look.

If anyone is after a 2ds - Argos on eBay are selling the same bundle (but black console) for £69.99 and £64.99 (grade B). Both are refurbished products and come with 12 month guarantee.

Sorry to hijack op - good find! I didn't deliberately set out to find it cheaper it's just because I have both of these in my watch list as I am toying with the idea of buying one for my sons birthday

6 Feb 17 2 #10
so £10 more for a new unit also with warranty rather than a grade b refurb? thats no hijack, that would have been the worst deal this week. (almost, splatoon 2!)

so hard to chose between 2ds n 3ds xl , got both , 2ds is very easy to hold n play without hands getting tired while eyes get more strained, 3ds xl eyes feel better while hands get more tired n its not that easy to grip compared to 2ds, keep flip floping between both all the time. A bigger or 2ds xl would have been awesome.
noahsdad to fawadkhan450

A bigger 2DS? This must be a joke? That would be horrendous. The clumsiest console for playing 3DS games, made even clumsier and more uncomfortable.

My kid has been playing a 3DS XL since he was 6, never complained about sore hands, or had bother with it. I am nearing 40 and have coped also as has my wife. I have seen other family members play 3DS without such issues to. The new Switch console will weight a bit more (not much) than a 3DS XL for the record. We rarely have our 3DS XL screens angled so that the console is stretched out and flat. Our screen angle varies from game to game to suit. The screen angle goes a long way to the overall comfort level when playing, dependant on game. Not being able to adapt the screen angle and being stuck in such a rigid viewpoint for any individual game has to reduce comfort levels.

Even my old handheld Nintendo games from 35 years ago supported optional screen angles to aid comfort. That just shows how old tech the 2DS unit is.

http://d2ydh70d4b5xgv.cloudfront.net/images/6/0/vintage-nintendo-game-watch-donkey-kong-multi-screen-handheld-video-game-dk-52-9789332d69487e120793c87504cb6b37.jpg

PS the controls on the 3DS and 3DS XL are superior to the 2DS controls.

+ Your eyes are going to get more strained on a 2DS than any other unit, particularly the 3DS XL which has larger screens. Not to mention some games may have a slower frame rate due to the old tech of the 2DS. Note any 3DS/3DS XL can have the 3D mode disabled with either a button, or parental controls.

Remember buy an Amiibo NFC reader too if you want to be able to use your kids Amiibos with Mario Party Star Rush and other games, as this old tech 2DS will not read Amiibo's unfortunately.

I am just pointing out it really is not hard to choose at all, unless the decision is mainly dictated by budget, then of course if a 2DS is the only option then get that.
BuzzDuraband
6 Feb 17 1 #11
I wouldn't call it the worst deal this week, after all it's a 13% saving. It depends how fussy you are.

Cheers for the post Ninbox, it's definitely worth mentioning Tesco have the Mario Kart 7 / Tomodachi version (different colours) for a quid more.
noahsdad
6 Feb 17 #12
Steady, Splatoon 2 is only like -100  Also a 2DS console deal at this price, should arguably be the worst deal of the week and -1000 region. Pound for pound, Splatoon 2 is the better deal.

Back on topic, it makes sense to get a warranty with the 2DS, as the risk of damage is increased due to its inferior design and additional exposure.

6 Feb 17 1 #13
Nd, the screens on the 2ds are the same res and size as the original 3ds just without the 3d. No more or less eye strain attributable. Surely thats down to the individual and everybodys eyes are different.

The slower frame rate is only relevant too a few games and even then the relevance is only between the New3ds models and all other 3ds/2ds models as they all (afaik) used the same processor etc etc

+ i'm going to have to tap out of the nations favourite gang. Comparing a 2ds with a dual screen game and watch shows some potentially missing marbles. Im out.
otterboxer
6 Feb 17 #14
buzz, its a saving of £10 and for that you get a grade b refurb as opposed to a new 2ds. i've seen some left field deals mentioned and heck even posted on here but no one with a full set would go for that. (surely?)

Not personal nicblaney + thanks for digging up the info. Nintendo discounts at Argos are all over the shop and hard to spot sometimes. I just dont personally think its worth a saving a tenner on.
noahsdad
6 Feb 17 #15
Only responding to someone else mention reduced eye strain on a 2DS which is clearly not the case at all. I know the dimensions of the 2DS - 3DS screens are the same, but if you read my post it focuses on the option of any console to tilt and angle screens appropriately to help with display and playing, except for the 2DS of course. And as you are aware the 3DS XL has a significantly larger screen, regardless of what that resolution is.

Never ceases to amaze me people still continue to prop up the 2DS. And yes that old dual screen game did have a better console design than the 2DS.
MungoSplodge
6 Feb 17 #16
I hear these aren't as good as 3DS' and the visuals are actually the same as smearing jam into your eyes. But its by the nations most anticipated games console maker of all time 2017 edition, so like Natalie Imbruglia, im torn.

Have you ever thought about the fact that not everyone likes the clamshell design? I sold my 3DS for a 2DS as I was never using the 3D option and prefer the simple design of the 2DS, that's it. It's called choice and personal preference.

"Back on topic, it makes sense to get a warranty with the 2DS, as the risk of damage is increased due to its inferior design and additional exposure."

Please do share up some statistics about how the "inferior" design is causing so much problem. Otherwise you just sound like an arrogant person who thinks he knows everything and only he can be right. I've yet to see anything happen to my 2DS, and that's from tossing it everywhere along flights and hikes.

Well the many 2DS users who state a pro of the 2DS being it is more robust etc, and the hinges just break on 3DS/3DS XL models don't really provide any statistics. But I am sure anyone sensible and rational here will agree just for starters, if you have (a) screens that are contained in a closable case, and you also have (b) screens that are contained in a rigid non closable case, i.e. always closed then it must be reasonable to ascertain (a) is surely safer and at less risk of damage. I'd also suggest as you have such a range of angle options to hold any 3DS gaming console at (except for 2DS of course), that reduces the risk of dropping the unit while playing.
teddy1590
6 Feb 17 1 #21
I'll chip in and say: I've had 3DS, 3DS XL and now a 2DS. Prefer the 2DS, more comfortable to hold, and I don't play games out the house so the lack of clamshell protection isn't an issue. Also never saw the appeal of the 3D functionaliy other than in Mario 3D Land.

That's just my personal opinion mind. Just like everyone here will have different opinions. If you prefer the 3DS, power to you, I won't try to change your mind.

Absolutely standard price for a ridiculously overpriced toy. Only reason I can think of for the price staying so high is that for the last 3 years since release these have been used by parents worldwide to shut their kids up. Sorry guys I think noahsdad is right on this one
Jerec
7 Feb 17 #29
My 5 and 8 year old have a 2DS each and its been chucked around plenty and its completely intact.

The main reason's I got them 2DS over 3DS was a) I didnt want their lil eyes to go funny and b) it was loads cheaper.

Think I got the 50 odd quid deal that came with Mario Kart 7 from Tesco.

They are sturdy, they play all the games and its cheap.

Unless your kid 'really' wants 3D then get these.
noahsdad
7 Feb 17 #30
1. the 3DS and 3DS XL both have a toggle button for 3D on/off.
2. 3D is easily disabled all together on the system via the parental settings and your password.
3. kids who even have access to 3D enabled consoles, prefer not to use it anyway is my experience.

There always seems to be a lot of confusion and a moot point that people opt for a 2DS to avoid the 3D. I would think if anyone's kids can manage to look after a clumsy badly designed unit like the 2DS then they could certainly cope with a 3DS or 3DS XL. But if everyone's happy no need to spend more money of course as can just stick with what they know.
electrolite77
7 Feb 17 1 #31
Same here, I'm 40 and I find the 2DS much more comfortable to hold. I also don't use the 3D effect as it strains my eyes after a bit (I'm an Air Traffic Controller-I need my eyes) so no loss there. Also a lot happier to pass this on to my kids as there's no hinge to break (which has happened to relatives of mine). Good buy with a good game IN MY OPINION.
Jerec
7 Feb 17 1 #32
It was mainly the cost. Believe me I'd of loved a 3DS XL, but they are too young and at £50 it was too good to pass.

No I won't stop giving my opinion sorry, and providing helpful info just because your a 2DS user. I think you will find the bias is from 2DS users like you who ignore what is right in front of your eyes while finding imaginary issues that actually don't exist with the superior models for 3DS gaming, by which I mean any unit that's not a 2DS. I am not making up imaginary issues with the 2DS, it really is what it is. If you have a 2DS that's fine, but please don't try to prop it up grasping onto any straw you can find, just so you can feel better about owning one. That's not helpful to anyone, especially those working out which unit they should buy.

lol my argument is invalid because you have owned other consoles? Look John Bercow, you said:

Now forgive me for assuming you played and had a preference for a 2DS but that's what your own comments suggest.

Yes we know they are cheap, and they are obviously cheap for good reason.

This is where I bow it (once again), when it starts to get a bit silly and usually the insults are never far away. Until the next 2DS deal thread I guess...
dtovey89
7 Feb 17 #39
The 2DS is cheap because it has no 3D technology and a single screen (split in two by the shell) plus np hinge.
The build quality of the buttons and casing is very good in my opinion.

Stop referring to non existent insults. I've asked you to tone down the constant 2DS bashing. The number of replies you get and number of likes others get when replying you implies I'm not the only one bored of your trolling.
