im glad someone has visited every square meter of the uk, tested signal strength for all UK carriers and then taken the time to report back on HUKD. Thanks for your efforts

Is it for Virgin Media Customers only?
Also do Virgin allow tethering?

Really poor service. Waited 2 weeks for my SIM to arrive, but no luck. Cancelled order yesterday. Since placing order, they had generated a bill the very next day and decided to take payment when I hadn't even received the SIM!
mike33 to hu55ey
7 Feb 17 #13
Had a similar problem to you on a recent sim deal through sim not arriving by royal mail so obviously complained and what they do is when you insist you want the sim quick is then send another sim for next day delivery by dpd which I got and through the complaint they give me a nice credit on my account but must admit there is no excuse for the first sim not arriving.

Yes they do

7 Feb 17 1 #8
Was told by an advisor in the cancellations department that many customers had complained of the same problem..SIMS not arriving and apparently it's Royal Mail's fault. However I had placed another order with a different provider and they managed to get the SIM delivered to me the next working day (Via Royal Mail).
millenium9 to hu55ey
7 Feb 17 #39
The same here I called them to complain but they said it's royal mail even though it was delivered by royal mail but processed by UK mail. If they used Royal Mail it would've been a lot cheaper for them and quicker for us.

I had a similar problem with waiting on the Sim Card.. however when I spoke to Virgin Mobile customer services they were very helpful, apologised for the inconvenience and sent a replacement SIM card with Yodel and credited £5 to my account as an apology.

So that is all you have to say really poor signal-presume you mean where you live-on virgin mobile and fine where I live,so like the last person said have you visited every square metre of the uk-please do your research before posting stupid comments.

Has anyone used this as leverage to get 3 to up their data? I pay £13 for unlimited calls/texts and 8GB data on a 30 day rolling contract.

I cant call three today to find out but wondered if there were any success stories as i'll give them a call tomorrow...!

It's not like-for-like, as Virgin customers network use is lower priority than the EE customers because they're sharing for a discount.

I was on Virgin for a while as they piggybacked EE which was on a whole quite good.
However and I know this will not apply to everyone...if you go to a highly populated area like a festival or also in my case a cricket match with a full house you get kind of cut off.
At the cricket in particular during the whole match I had no data, could make no calls and was getting nothing incoming either.
After the days play I get far enough away to join the next mast or whatever and my phone burts into life.
Basically all EE users were fine and get to use those services struggling off 1 mast or whatever but Virgin as they were just piggy backing are demoted to nothing.
This happened on several occasions and it was too much of a coincidence.
I contacted them and they denied all knowledge but it's clear you are treated not the same as a EE customer on their signal.

As I say wondering around town shouldn't be an issue but concentrated areas beware.

I think if your a Virgin Mobile customer you get access to the Virgin Media WiFi on the London Underground for free... Correct me if I'm wrong??

Also, I understand EE customers get to use it free as well because of the EE / Virgin Mobile network sharing.

All sims / contracts I've ordered, other than pay as you go, have all come next day. My Virgin sim took over a week, but they bill from the minute the order is placed (my order was either 21:52 or 22:52 - late, I forget which)

Even pay as you go sims come within a couple of days. I suspect Virgin sit on the sims a few days before dispatch, which isn't right.

I had my pac code from EE, I was told it would be transfered by 4pm Monday, only just got my service / transfer late this morning, my EE sim was cut off due to pac transfer. Luckily I have not required use of my mobile.

So far, the service seems like a back alley hack job. But we'll see how things pan out

wotsits999
7 Feb 17 #52
Remember guys this is a 30 day contract that you can cancel with just 30 days notice.

If your using the deal as leverage to get a better deal with your original network that's great but remember your committing to a new 12 month contract with your network with no data rollover or free WhatsApp and Messenger.

The Virgin deal is ideal if you want the flexibility to change networks at short notice or with price increases unlike if your tied into a 12 month contract.
wotsits999
7 Feb 17 #53
There is an ongoing issue with getting the sims at a reasonable time in the post.. Just a suggestion, the deal can be picked up at a Virgin Media Store (afaik) ???

Also, if you have been waiting an excessive time I suggest you call customer services, they were extremely helpful when I called and arranged for the sim to be sent next day by courier and stuck £5 credit on my account.

My EE SIM only £19.99(£34 plan) deal for 16gb that I got last year ends April 5th , happy with EE and do you reckon if I ring up now they will match this deal? Maybe get some Apple Music and data roaming for free?
Parisian
7 Feb 17 #55
I got my SIM within 48 hours, ordered last week, and I did wonder if existing Virgin customers were getting theirs quicker compared to new customers. Last time around they made it clear when the offer was running out, but not this time and considering it only ran out on the 31 January I wonder why they have re-introduced it a week later?
Also, on my previous Virgin SIM it was showing as EE but the new one has been displaying Virgin.

The lack of tethering just makes this useless for me. I've got Spotify set to "download via cellular", I download apps using my allowance and I stream when I fancy watching YouTube when I'm out and about and I'm still only using 7gb a month tops! Obviously when I'm home I flick on the wi-fi.

How are people using so much data each month?
wotsits999
7 Feb 17 #57
Possibly, although they might say you have to wait until April as your in contract.

This is a beauty of the Virgin deal, only 30 days contract. So you can change networks when a better deal comes along without being tied down.

Worth a phone call to EE IMO though.. Good Luck!

Does anyone know if virgin do wifi calling? This would fix the network problems if connected to wifi right? Also if Virgin do not, is there an alternative way of getting wifi calling while using the Virgin sim?
wotsits999
7 Feb 17 #59
No, they don't do WiFi calling like EE and others.

But then EE and others don't do Data Rollover?? Have to weigh up what's important to you.

I signed up to the 3G unlimited mins/texts/GBs £15pm rolling month contract when that was about as a new customer. Within the first 3 months I got my first letter saying it was increasing to £16.50, before I knew it they had increased it several times since to the ripe old sum of £22. Good deal if your the sort of person who likes calling up frequently to haggle a better deal, not so good if your like me and have 'better things to do'.

Have to agree with what other people have said its a " second , third , fourth " rate service on virgin media calls would cut off ( good signal ) id go to a concert or football match - no data connection ( good signal ) and partner with EE direct work fine - Fairford Airshow temporary EE mast on hill camping next to ( no data signal 3 days ) changed to EE directly back in april 2015 ( with that amazing 16gb , unlimited mins - texts posted here ) fairford airshow that year ( perfect - calls , texts , data ) just a brilliant experience direct ( no issue with tethering or throttling service down )
wotsits999
7 Feb 17 #65
From reading the terms and conditions it rolls over 1 month, uses the roll over data before using your new allocation the next month. If you don't use the fresh allocation of data that rolls over for next month.
wotsits999
7 Feb 17 #66
I think it's called network priority?? EE want there own customers to get priority first followed by Virgin etc.

Interestingly it'll be nice to see how EE handle the Emergency Services traffic that is transferring from Airwave.

Don't think the Police, Ambulance, Fire etc will put up with a second, third rate service.

One time was excellent for Customer Service but lately very dismal.
CSR's that lie and some even find your genuine problems amusing.

What I will always remember was the day they disconnected my 077224 77224 number as they said I hadn't used it enough and that it was destroyed and I could never have it back, only to find it was then issued to someone else.

A disconnected number goes in a pool for 6 months, it can only be retrieved by pooling network for the customer who last had it.

After 6 months the pool is emptied and the original issuing network is handed it back.

BT Genie and later o2 did this with me on a unlimited data sim and a Platinum number. Only later did I find out from ADR this could be done.

Same as you, but my number and unlimited data were transferred to a staff member who then ported their number across onto the unlimited data sim.

It is shameful Ofcom do not have a FULL code of conduct on PAC and consumers number & handling rights. o2 didn't even apologise they just said they can withdraw service or number at anytime. I boycotted them until Telefonica took over out of principle.

Mistakenly it was a o2 staff member who told me what happened, I hope she didn't get fired - because the thief didn't and I never got my unlimited data back. You would have thought o2 seen what that staff member done was gross misconduct and immediate dismissal, but no they kept their job and I lost my number and unlimited data.

Just a heads up. I ordered this approximately 10 days ago when the last deal was running. They took payment immediately, and I recieved the confirmation of direct debit by Royal Mail 2 days later. The SIM however never showed up, despite calling them and they insisted it had been delivered.

They did eventually offer to waive the entire first month for free for the wait, however I declined and went with the current Vodafone offer - you can knock 20% off the price on the online chat. I got 25GB, unlimited calls/texts, with 4GB roaming and unlimited roaming calls/texts for £20 a month, plus 12 month free entertainment package. For the extra £5 a month you get 5GB more data, the roaming, entertainment package and a proper service - I think it's worth it.

Took 7 days for my sim to arrive. Rang up today to swap my number to be told my sim was 2yrs old and had been disconnected in 2015. I would need a new one. Just clueless. When speaking to the 3rd person, they asked for the sim serial number. I said it was in my phone. They couldn't grasp that I couldn't take it out of the phone whilst I was talking on it.
Finally passed on my PAC code and am waiting for the number to change. If it doesn't go smoothly, this could be the shortest contract ever.

Just a heads up. I'm with EE and I had 1 and a half months left on my 24 month contract, rang EE and said I'd cancel and pay the early termination fee and move to Virgin Mobile. They price matched the Virgin deal there and then and waived the early upgrade fee too! £14.99 per month then for unlimited minutes, unlimited texts, 20gb of double speed 4G data, and 500mb of EU data. So it's actually a bit better than the Virgin deal and a penny cheaper! 12 month contract though.

trickytree is correct.i dont care what virgin say that they use EE signal.the fact is they do but the speeds are nowhere as near as good as being on EE.as already posted EE speed for data is twice as fast as any other network.this is fact and published online.with there 4g++ now they repute to give speeds up to 100meg.this deal is a great price but if you need data i would pay the extra and try to get a decent EE deal.however this isnt easy because they simply dont discount there data.they just dont need to because they are best by a mile.

welshfrankie

They've been an absolute nightmare. First my SIM never arrived, then the replacement arrived late, the replacement didn't work so had to get another SIM, then my number port failed and I was unable to receive any calls or texts, then my voicemail wouldn't work... From ordering my SIM to actually being fully operational with Virgin Media took just under a whole month.

Very tempted. However, I noted this in their terms: "RPI Adjustments: From July 2016, the charge for your tariff will increase with your July bill each year. Any increase will be in line with the Retail Price Index (RPI) rate of inflation at the time, and we'll always give you 30 days' notice of the exact increase each year."

I appreciate it probably isn't going to make a massive difference (RPI currently 1.6% so an extra 24p in July assuming that's on the £15 rate) but something to be aware of.

Almost all MVNO subscribers are given lower priority over MNO subscribers.
There are plenty of comparison videos on youtube showing this, and it's particularly obvious when the masts are busy.

By the end of the day, you get what you paid for!

Seems like a great price. Same price as I pay for 3 but I get unlimited mins, texts - WHO ACTUALLY USES THEM anymore?!! 4GB data and feel at home.

Never go anywhere near my data limit, 5 year 3 customer saw the posts where people were getting unlimited mins / texts / 8GB and feel at home for £13 and requested PAC from 3 only to be passed from pillar to post and offering me nothing.

With "customer service" like that want to dump them on principle. Don't travel much but admit that the feel at home is valuable. Seen a few operators offer this now.

My question is, do Virgin on this deal?

Apologies if already answered but I can't be bothered reading through any more unhelpful posts than I have on the 1st page and when I click through just takes me to their homepage...

Thanks in advance to any helpful answers. Maybe useful to put the full package in the OP?

Cheers

This happens with any network in a mass attendance event. It's because of volume of people on the same mast. It's like having 30,000 extra people on one wireless router. Doesn't like it.

You can get a sim only deal on Vodafone for £11 effectively, unlimited mins, texts and 20GB of data @Mobiles.co.uk or order a full price sim i.e. same plan for £14 and then ask a Vodafone to match it. They will. Did it for me and two others! But going through Mobiles.co.uk is probably better.

Means that you need to give 30 days notice to cancel - it's like when you finish your 24 month contract and then it's month on month thereafter...you're only tied into a month, if you get this and decide that it's not for you then you serve your 30 days notice and you're out.

I have just moved to the £12 for 6gb deal. Moved away from Vodafone. I can confirm that the download speeds for me, in the three locations I tend to use data, are between half and a tenth of the Vodafone speeds. (Vodafone consistently 25mbs, Virgin fluctuating between 2 and 12mbs). However, for me, this is greatly offset by the speed that Virgin customer services answer the phone compared to Vodafone.

So, as someone posted earlier, you get what you pay for, If 12mbs is not fast enough for you, perhaps best to look elsewhere.

(Voted Hot btw, as it is plenty for me)

I have got the 25GB which works out for £12.50/month for me including the price match and 30% VEA on top. I chose Spotify, so truly I am only paying £2.50 towards my data, text and voice minutes allowance. If £10 was to be a Spotify premium subscription. Not a bad deal I think!

If you're an existing Virgin customer, you get free Virgin to Virgin calls. Not really much, but they probably won't do more than that. Or at least didn't when I tried.

The funny thing is, this deal is already £10 off, and nothing on a rolling contract touches it. No non-retention 12 month contract SIMO deals do either really. So even at £15 it's a good deal. Yet people still wondering if they should haggle. :man:

Sometimes things are worth what they cost.

I'd say it is. You only have to give 30 days notice.

I used to be on GiffGaff, and their frankly terrible data speeds, as liked the idea of not being beholden to a contract. The thing is, I was buying a goody bag every month, so paying out just like a contract anyway. I'd never like to be held to a year for a mobile contract, as the market can change quite a lot in that time, but month to month seems a fair compromise.

test it yourself. Run speedtest and compare it to actual real world uploads and downloads. I have a hosted server in a data centre as a seedbox and Plex server. I do not get the advertised speeds on any of my ISP / carrier connections, especially during sustained transfers.

the question is, why wouldn't isps traffic manage your connection to ensure speedtest gets favourable bandwidth? its very little effort on their part and ensures they get bragging rights about being 'fastest'

When I ported my number across, it wasn't evident that the number had moved. Have you tried turning the phone off, putting the VM sim in, then turning the phone back on? You probably have, but worth a try if not.

Have you contacted them?
Splashmo
9 Feb 17 #227
I have.

VM broadband performs the same over a sustained download as demonstrated on speedtest.net.
BT 4G does as well.
GiffGaff is poor on both speedtest and sustained.
Virgin Mobile gives above result, and demonstrates similar speed when downloading 1GB file from App Store against a timer.

I know Pulse8 was accused by Ookla last year of impropriety, but not read anything about other, especially larger ISPs, doing the same.

At the end of the day, speedtest.net is only just a guide as there are so many variables that can affect results. But I don't think ISPs are trying to shank the results.

Thanks for your post tricky, I need to move to an EE provider from O2, and your post has given me cause for concern as I go to football matches where I need the phone to work at.

Does anyone happen to know if this 2nd class treatment of resellers of the EE network is also the case with Plusnet and BT Mobile please?

How I see it is these are my options, at present I'm swaying towards trying Virgin for a few months then Plusnet and if I'm not happy with either taking out a 12 month deal on BT

£10 Plusnet = 4GB, 1500mins, unlim txt, 1 month
£12 BT Mob = 20GB, unlim mins, unlim txt, 12 months
£15 Virgin = 20GB, 5000mins, unlim txt, 1 month

Not the same extent.
I work at Trent Bridge when the International and T20 matches are on. The ground only holds 17,500 so all those plus a few residents nearby on the network.
I was getting no use every time the ground was anywhere near full on Virgin.
After 2 years I changed to EE and using the same phone and location the service was perfect getting 4G speeds etc compared to not even letting calls and texts in and out.
trickytree
9 Feb 17 #230
I very occasionally did go to the City Ground and take into account only 20k to 25k attendance and the same would happen. You would be ok during the match as most people obviously concentrate on the game and are not doing much on their phone but come half time and the 20 mins or so before kick off and immediately after the game finished there was nothing.
Probably the same mast in my case as the cricket is only across the road at Trent Bridge.
I am now on EE attending the same places for the past 18 months and not 1 issue.

With regards those that are worried there phone service won't work at the football match or cricket ground. I can see how inconvenient that could be, but why would you be sitting on your phone anyway?? Lol... also, I guess you have to weigh up with loosing service or having reduced service against for hour or so against getting yourself tied down in a contract with a the network operator directly to get priority on the mast.

Personally I could put up with the reduced service for an hour or so to get the better deal and save money but obviously the choice is yours.

I really really hate all these people that must have a phone tied to their ear or tippy tapping their texts every minute of their waking day. LOL.
Personally when I go to a football match it's to watch the game, not to use a mobile phone.
Would these people have been able to survive in the good old days of just phone boxes, that usually had a queue outside if it hadn't been vandalised. LOL.

I have been with Virgin SIMO for around 13 years (2-5 SIMs) and always found their customer service excellent - you can always speak to a real person and I've found them polite and helpful.
Anyway - just a question. I switched 3 of my phones from the £10 5k min/2Gb 3G rolling 30 day to the new £12 2.5k min/6Gb 4G one, which seems to be great value. On the changover date I got a text to say it's a 2Gb contract, but I have 6Gb data allocation. Is the 6Gb just a 1-month promotion, or is it perpetual? since the contract says 2Gb I assume they can reduce it at any time to the contracted level. I can't see anywhere on their web site where it says the triple data is perpetual.

Month until the end of your contract or a month until you can haggle? You can contact EE 45 days before the end of your contract (but I suspect you may already know this). I would try EE now and see what they say.

Yes don't get to City Ground often now due to young kids but as it was ok during the match as everyone stopped using it and say up to 30 mins before the match.
The cricket was my main issue.
I work at all the Internationals at Trent Bridge and each one you may as well turn your phone off as nothing in or out and no data. It was useless.
Changed to EE 18 months ago and worked perfectly ever since at both venues.

I'm desperately waiting for my Vodaphone sim to arrive. One week and two SIM cards and still 'no service'. I've tried the sim in other unlocked phones and one Samsung gave the message 'sim not connected to network'. I've done everything on my iPhone, including wiping it completely and then restoring it. The customer service is a joke. They just insist it's connected as it says so on their system. Absolutely clueless. It's been extremely frustrating and I have broadcast to everyone I can not to go near this bunch of cowboys
haydor1989
12 Feb 17 #264
similar thing happened to me, so after 7 days of waiting, i simply went to a Virgin store and asked for a sim card.
As my account was generated and had been assigned a number, they cancelled the sim that "was lost in the post" and gave me one there and then, activated and using within a few mins.

The price to pay for a bargain? Not sure, but so far so good.

The free WatsApp that is mentioned, does this mean that data used for WatsApp is free, excluded from the 20gb monthly allowance?
Splashmo
12 Feb 17 1 #266
Yes.

Proviso being if you have run out of data, it will then not be free. So,

If you have 1mb of your allowance left = free
If you have 0mb of your allowance left = £££

I waited over a week and nothing came, I phone them up and they said they would cancel the order and resend another one. Then a sim came, then another, I noticed two bills on my account for two sims. I phoned to tell them they said sorry and cancelled the bill, then they said the other person had not cancelled the order, a week later another sim arrived, lo and behold another monthly bill arrived on the account. I phone them up and they cancelled the bill. I have though spent about 1hr 45 mins in total talking to customer services, been stressed out and nearly charged twice for the sims. Oh and the service isnt very good either in Northumberland. Wishing I hadnt bothered too be honest.

My wife contacted Vodafone via live chat as her contract is up in a month. They said they couldn't match this deal, but they did ask if she, any friends, or family worked for a company on their 'employee advantage' scheme, as that would get her a 30% discount. As it happens, I do. So she got unlimited minutes, unlimited texts and 20gb (with 2gb roaming) for £14.

Admittedly, it's a 12 month contract and not Virgin's 30 day (which is very tempting), but not having to go through a cancellation, number port, etc, is a pretty good deal for her.

So thanks for posting this deal, as she's always going over her data allowance (was previously just 5gb) and this has got her something much better for only a couple of quid more.

15 Feb 17 #278
Utterly rank deal, but in fairness, no worse than pretty much everyone else. Because like almost every other provider, Virgin offer no ability to cap data at your total monthly allowance. For those of us with teenage children, the phone provider is effectively saying "we'll have unfettered access to your bank account, so better keep your kids in order". It's a joke - they all say "oh we'd love to offer caps but we can't currently do it". Yeah right. The other one has bells. Tesco will cap, but they have lousy 30 day deals. Talkmobile may or may not offer caps, but I can't get far enough in the order process to find out without agreeing to a credit check! A credit check? For a PRE-PAID monthly deal? No thanks! The only provider that seems to offer what I need is GiffGaff, and I'm not allowed to use their £20 deal as one of my previous kids used too much and got slung off.

16 Feb 17 1 #279
Yes its on the web site 6gb data with rollover, 1500mins, unlimited texts for £12/month. I started on this deal (20gb), but decided I didn't need that much data, so a quick phone call to retentions got me moved to the 6gb plan for £9/month (instead of £12). I'm now on that plan with nearly a 20gb rollover from my first month on the other plan lol

My sim started working the day after I gave my PAC code to Vodaphone and they began the process of porting the number from Virgin. Nearly two weeks without any service at all. Been with virgin for ten years. Pretty average but I'm a low user and not demanding. Would've left as no 4G but as that was supposedly not available in my area with <2MB broadband never bothered. Decided to have a punt and now get 4G speed of Ave 25MB at home. As for being second to EE at events I think new years eve answers that. When the systems full its full.
Try stuff in your neck of the woods. All the research you so is on outdated info.

Switched from Vodaphone to Virgin, ordered a sim with next delivery, arrived no problem, I did a few speed tests, it will differ a lot depending on day & time but it was clear to see the Virgin sim was better for where I travel to frequently.:
1. Essex (poor recepetion) Vodaphone - 0.52 download & 1.14 upload
2. Essex (poor recepetion) Virgin Sim - 4.25 download & 1.70 up
3. Essex (med reception 3/4g) Vodaphone 5.22 down 0.16 up
4. Essex (med reception 3/4g) Virgin 24.58 8.47 up (I couldn't believe the difference)
5. London (good 4g recep) Vodaphone 21.65 Down 5.79 up
6. London (good 4g recep) Virgin 23.74 Down 3.22 up

As Virgin was on a rolling monthly contract I decided to test it first, as I visit Essex a lot but never found a carrier with decent reception , it was clear right from day 1 the Virgin sim was super fast , in a house near the coast the mobile internet has been almost unusable downstairs, with the new Virgin sim it's not fantastic but it's a decent 3g.
Added to that it's £5 cheaper than the contract that I was on with Vodaphone for 20gb it's a no brainer.
A pity the Virgin Mobile staff (some foreign call centre) aren't as nice as the Virgin Media..but I can't complain with the service so far, porting the number took less than a day and the mobile staff were helpful.

Good question.

It's a 30 day rolling contract, so I'm assuming therefore that it renews with a fresh 20GB of data each and every month?. :-)
soldierboy001
20 Feb 17 #298
Years ago after a terrible experience with the old BT mobile, I went Virgin PAYG and I never had a problem, but that was before data. Moved to Spain10 years ago and I am using a Vodaphone 25 Euro a month contract and I get over 70 download on 4G, which is more than I require but nice to have it. I'm in Thailand at the moment and getting 25 on AIS, What's wrong with you in the UK?

Not sure if this question has been asked/answered yet?, but, here goes ...

20 Feb 17 #300
Those are some interesting 'flags' you raised there?, hmmmmm.

Good question I guess?, lol, but no idea?.

Spain (being part of Europe) I can understand, but Thailand?, that makes me even more intrigued that your able to pull off a better data infrastructure there? (other than that of China too perhaps?), than that of here?, hmmmmmmm (forgive my ignorance?, never been to any Eastern Countries, so never really realised?).

All is good though. :-)

20 Feb 17 #301
Thanks for the suggestion, I did and got straight through. A nice man called Dominic said that it is a promotion but the 6Gb data is guaranteed for as long as I stay on that plan, ie perpetual. The entire call, from dialling 789 to hanging up was 2m12s.
Muffy
20 Feb 17 #302
I took out the lower £12 plan (since I'm on WiFi for the vast majority of time) but I checked with Virgin and these deals are perpetual as long as you remain on that plan. If you come off for 30 days onto another plan you won't be able to go back to this one. Not only that, but unused data gets rolled over into the next month so if you only use 5Gb, you will have an extra 15Gb data next month before it starts eating into that 20Gb allowance. Spare data only rolls over 1 month, so the max rollover amount is 20Gb in your case, 6Gb in mine.

This sounds like a good deal. I ordered the sim on 13th Feb. I was clearly told when ordering that may billing period would be from the day I started using the sim
It arrived today 20th, but I received an email & letter saying my billing period was 13th Feb - 14 March.
After 2-3 phone calls to virgin pointing out that should not be billed for the time that I didn't have the sim card to use, they finally agreed to credit my account £3.00.
Can anyone confirm what the out of bundle data charges are for this deal as I have read £1 per day on printed material & £2 per day online?

Whilst it's expensive, Three do an unlimited data and mins tariff that would enable you to cap your financial exposure.

Alternatively, I believe Tesco Mobile allow capping at just over the tariff price to control financial risk.

Whilst not perfect in that it's not at the tariff price or a low price, both options would get you out of the "unfettered access to your bank account situation"

The final option that my in laws used whilst fostering is just have a Payg sim with a set amount loaded each month and its up to the kids to stick to it or do without. This does create situations initially but they get over it.
Muffy
21 Feb 17 #314
Virgin does send you a notification on 75%, 90% and 95% usage.
I use a Windows 10 mobile, which has settings (which you can restrict access to) to limit the data use. You can set a monthly limit with reset date and data amount, so it just stops using mobile data after the limit has been reached. With the Microsoft family account you can monitor online the child's online activity and data usage. I expect other phones have similar features and may be worth investigating as an alternative way of managing it. It also depends on whether the breach is malicious and deliberate or accidental. If deliberate then it may be easiest to let the provider manage the cap as you suggest. If accidental then using the phone's settings mean you can use any SIM provider.

It's not good if that 14.50 for 32gb comes round again from ee blimey it's the same network you'll all be crying. If I cricfree just the matches 30gb is about minimum. Been on this plan since mid January and the service in Birmingham is absolutely fine. I average about 25 MBPS download and 9 MBPS Upload. You can get faster with ee but do you really need that 40+MBPS?

22 Feb 17 #328
I am impressed so far with virgins coverage and speed! However if EE end up doing a deal for new customers at £15 a month I may jump ship as Virgin don't offer any add ons for using my phone in Las Vegas! As it is I'm probably going for a payg 3 sim for when we go away to the USA. Last time I was there with Virgin I had all sorts of charges as there was no way to dissable my voicemail so if anyone rang me it'd automatically go to voicemail and charge me £1. There were also calling costs of £1.40 per minute even though I didn't make any calls. Last two years we've had three sims which were great abroad. I just wish Virgin did a US add on.

Just cancelled my sons existing contract and was told by the Plusnet guy that once I've used 3.5gb of virgin data, they will throttle to 3G speeds for the other 16.5gb. I've looked at the virgin fair useage bit and that says you will get 4G throughout. Is there anyone already on this that can confirm one way or the other. Thanks

It's typical BS from ill-informed idiots who will try and retain your custom at any cost. Virgin won't throttle or downgrade data speeds.

Received my sim and had my number switched over from Giffgaff today.
Speedtest reports 24Mb with 33ms ping fairly consistently on virgin. Giffgaff was varying between 5-20mB with about 70ms ping.
The extra speed is nice along with getting 5x the data.

sign up and you can literally try it for a month (less a few quid) with the cashback from TCB etc.

LOL - They said exactly the same to me ... blah blah. In my mind I was just thinking 'Yeah right, sure buddy' .. I've 3 existing Virgin 30 day SIMs already, (all bumped up to this deal now and have had no speed issues), son was on Lifemobile, now Plusnet ... as I can only have 3 SIMs per account holder, we decided to pop into a Virgin Store and open another 2 of these for son and daughter under the wifes name. Process was quick and easy, very good experience with the staff too. Walked out with working SIMs installed. Called Plusnet soon as I got home for a PAC code.:sunglasses:

Edit: Guy helping us said billing would only be in 2 weeks time, however on setting up online account and going into it, it has next billing date as 23rd March, so I expect it starts from the day we applied - today.

I did a web chat to EE a few days ago (before I got this deal) and they said they can't offer anything close to this. For the past few days EE have been calling me back trying to get my custom. Today they said EE 4G speeds are double Virgin speeds. After a bit of research it seems they're flogging 4G+ which is only available in London. Bit naff for EE to flog 4G+ when I can't get it in Cheshire.

Just got EE to price match that deal for me, and added a sharer sim for another £12 for my daughter to use.
So have upgrade to £20GB across a shared plan from me paying £23.99 for a 6GB deal Unl\Unl + £10 for my daughters sim with ID Mobile for 4GB and 500 Mins\Unl Text deal. Content that the data is doubled between us and saved ~£7 a month and don't need to deal with ID Mobile any more. Happy with that for another 12 months
