Looks like op has updated to include the "HAVE50" voucher - this will take the 100mb down to just under £26/month!

Referral deals are definitely the best at the moment (Don't post here asking for referrals though as it isn't allowed). Just to give you an idea my friends have been getting Free Activation, 100Mbps broadband, basic TV with TiVo, phone line and line rental for £20 all in and a £50 credit - so the equivalent of £15.83 per month for 12 months (12 month contract).

It all depends on who submitted the referral and how it was done - It may have been a general referral or sent through to a specific agent. I know that for my referrals I had a specific contact and a previously agreed deal that would be offered to those I refer it to.

Ah ok thanks, do you know if it's possible to phone them back up myself (on the 0800 number) and try again, or would i need to wait for them to call again?

The deals are very much dependent on the agent who you speak to. I've just had a referral obtain the same offer in the last few days.

Seems the £15 a month deal is no longer being offered with referrals! Best I was offered was £29 a month plus the £50 credit..

Virgin have really **** me off today. Cancelled my installation without telling me beforehand. I was at home and decided to phone them to find out what time they were coming. Apparently, I was meant to confirm it with them, well, say so in your voicemail message!!!!! They said call back if there's any problem, not call back to confirm.

I was so angry, I told them to cancel, the CS persisted and I relented. I don't want to waste another day off work, if it happens again, more fool me.

Yes I did - absolute joke. As stated customer over 10 years and NO customer loyalty. Only stayed with them because when it does work I know it's fast.

Didn't work within 5 days of new box sent and after an engineer had been sent for an "assessment" which was completely unnecessary as everything worked before. The soonest they could send an engineer was 7 days later.

IMO it's pointless paying for these crappy TV services that are full of adverts. If you have all the major catch up, Netflix, Amazon, Now TV, Android boxes just a waste of money.

Like I said, in our lifetime a fast broadband connection will be included in the council tax and will just be a given.

The roads are constantly being dug up and potholes created by all these services companies without charge.

One day someone in central government will have the nous to firstly charge these companies appropriate fees for damage and destruction. And even later, realise that they could get in on the act and undercut all these clowns!!

If you are out of contract with BT then you can just sign up to Virgin and as long as you port your number over, BT will then cease your services at this point. It is probably best to let BT know as well just so they have it on record.

I'm on BT( out of contract since October 16) so do I have to give 30 day notice to stop broadband when moving to virgin (i guess virgin use their own cable rather than the bt fiber) or will it be done automatically done as phone gets moved to virgin ...

KareemSaid
24 Feb 17 #122
That's because, as many of these so called "deals" they are placed by the company schills and you have no chance of getting them.

Very rarely does anyone post a pic of their contract.

Virgin are a shoddy company and racquet. Customer service is non existent, they will jack your bills, no one seems to know what they are doing.

10 year + customer - gave me the only "discount" as signing up as a new customer.

Engineer turned up and even he quoted business 101 - keep your existing customers happy haha!

The standard TV and Tivo box is crap.

10 year + customer and have had to sign up to get new customer £27 a month all in. Up to 50mb broadband and home phone wll never use - bargain!

All these companies have been buggering up the roads for years and getting away with their daylight robbery.

Trust me, by 2025 high speed internet access will be a given included in council tax. Hopefully it will be regulated!

Huge shout out to happymanuk for hooking me up with this sweet deal:

100mb broadband
Line rental and weekend calls
Player TV Bundle
TiVO 500gb
No installation/activation fee
£50 credit

All the above for £20 a month! Happymanuk's referral was actually for 50mb and at £15 pm, but I couldn't resist doubling the speed for a mere £5 extra.

Don't know why he's been suspended/banned, he didn't share the referral links on deal posts and only gave it when people asked for it in PM. Can't see how that's rule breaking. Anyway, if you're seeing this happymanuk, thanks again!

Received the call back from the referral team. They honoured the £50 discount code, £50 referral to me and £50 referral to my friend. They said they'd only do this on a "standard" bundle however so I decided to go with the Player bundle which will work out as £21.92pm.

Thanks again mikeizz!

Seems like this code has expired which is a shame as was lookign for a 100mb Virgin deal :disappointed:
mikeizz
23 Feb 17 #95
They will say that code is online specific and can't be used.

Feel free to mention me as a "friend" who got the £50 refer a friend plus another £50 credit on my account yesterday and yes the friend also is going to recieve £50!

IF they say they can't do it just say well that £50 is the difference between saying yes and no and i'm sure they will ring you back, if not they leave a number for you to call on...... Good luck!
PBeeez
23 Feb 17 #94
Thanks mikeizz.

I'm expecting a call from a friend referral at 11am today. I'll mention the 'HAVE50' code in the hope to getting the same deal. Is there anything else to mention and do you know if your friend will still receive their £50 for referring you?
mikeizz
23 Feb 17 #93
I got a call from Virgin after i was referred by a friend and mentioned this code as as a hope of getting another £50 discount but the guy on the phone said no way .

I then get a call back later from the same guy and he tells that he has spoken to his manager and they will grant another £50 credit (so £100 in total) which works out at £17.92 a month for 50 fibre and weeked calls.

If anyone has a friend might be worth a punt as didn't take much!

I just got my latest virgin bill for £70! And all I have is 50 meg broadband and TiVo M the call charges came to £18 but to be paying over £50 for 50 meg is ridiculous so I've rang them to cancel and the best deal they offered me was £45 lmao!
rford78
22 Feb 17 #91
Just cancelled on my Virgin 100Mbps Unlimited Package (new customer). Their existing infrastructure cannot support so-called "100Mbps" "200Mbps"

Average speeds during peak hours 7pm - 12 am approx (including daytime during weekends ) = 12-25 Mbps !!

Virgin forcefully "closed" a high utilization (oversubscribed) ticket raised against my account/area (London) within 2 days - It normally takes weeks/months to upgrade (meaning new: cables/network kit/servers) to fix high utilization issues so they are master manipulators.

Virgin need to be fined by the regulators and trading standards for false advertising and for deceiving customers !

Never again.

22 Feb 17 #85
That's an interesting one. I suppose sales reps might not have heard of "high optimisation areas", but technical support and customer services and second line customer services certainly have as they confirmed I am in such an area, which is why I'm getting such poor speeds at peak times. Maybe ask to talk to a manager / supervisor and ask what speeds exactly are guaranteed. I'm pretty sure they can't guarantee any speeds, except possibly the less than a meg I'm getting!!
3guesses
22 Feb 17 #84
Nuts, just discovered that the VM cable stops ~20m from my home...
sam1970
22 Feb 17 1 #83
I asked the rep. specifically about this after reading the comment earlier in the thread. She denied that such term exists and that Virgin will guaranttee the speed they are advertising. Obviously I have no way of verifying either so I will have to wait and see
obwan2014
22 Feb 17 1 #82
Please check with the rep before you sign up that you're not in a "high utilisation area". This could mean at peak times, so outside normal office hours in the evening and all weekend, you may only be getting less than a meg download speed. It will most likely be much better at 11am on a Monday morning, when I'm at work. £16 a month all in, including phone line sounds cheap, but at less than a MB at the times when I want to use the service, I reckon I should be paying 50x less that that for the speed I'm getting, so 32p a month!

Great result...after being referred by happymanuk (from HUKD), I just had a call from virgin. Iam moving from bt. They said that I have been referred and they would like to give me a good deal. I said I only want the deal my referrer had and they agreed straightaway. 12 months contract of 50mb broadband +weekend calls + line rental+ 500 GB Tivo box+ Free connection all for £15/month. They will also credit my first bill with £50 which will bring the monthly cost down to £10.83.
Thank you very much happymanuk.

I called them back in August due to issues i was having with the BB, i just wanted to cancel as i had enough of constant disconnections and getting nowhere with virgin. They convinced me to stay by offering me the latest superhub which they say will solve the problem i was having, they also offered to reduce my bill slightly. I gave them one last chance and went ahead with it. Little did i know then i was signing up to a new 12 month contract!. Furthermore the price has since increased back to the original £39 i was paying before i made this call in August.

I am going to wait till I move home and see if they are in my area , then will look for the best deal possible if I can get it there as coverage varies in the areas I am looking to move to

I presume it actually IS fast and reliable???

I need NO BUFFERING whatsoever if possible on Youtube videos for my Grandson with Autism who has all sorts of ipads / ipods / iphones and a laptop going all at once! Lol

Plus am on the internet too of course and we were having trouble with Talk Talk fibre between around 6-8pm every evening :disappointed::disappointed:
Jinkz
22 Feb 17 #74
How long have you been with them? Standard term is normally 12 months, past this time you should be able to leave giving 30 days notice without paying a fee. I'm not sure you psychically sign anything these days as it's mostly online.
obwan2014
22 Feb 17 #73
Area Reference (AR) 21, Franchise area: Wandsworth and then London North (which doesn't seem to make sense). Lot's of Virgin customers are not too satisfied. If you search for "high utilisation area" (or use it z instead of s) and Virgin you can find the threads.

Virgin's Broadband is on a separate line to the phone line. Not like sky/bt who use adsl. So it'll come from their own junction box on the street (usually green box).

Works out £27.08 a month which is good too! I don't think you'll get any more off unless you trying using Quidco/Topcashback with it, but it says they won't pay out with codes (worth a shot though!) Not sure when the code will end.

You might want to check the small print there:-

NO traffic throttling on downloads during working hours

* Virgin Media cabled areas only. Speeds referred to are download speeds. All prices subject to VAT at 20%. Subject to 24 months minimum term contract. Minimum cost of install is £50 per site, excess construction charges may apply. Legal stuff applies.

22 Feb 17 #63
I'm 100% sure that Virgin don't work on verbal contracts, it'd be for a length of time.
J4GG4
22 Feb 17 #62
No contract signed here. Just verbal, and even then i had no intentions to take out a new contract, i was merely complaining about the poor service so they offered a discount. I had no idea it would mean you're signing up to a fresh 12 month contract.
Tucalito
22 Feb 17 #61
I'm considering switching from Virgin Media to Virgin Media Business as they offer:

Up to 50Mbps down/up to 5Mbps up broadband for £25+VAT per month for 24 months
£50 installation fee
No phone line required
Router
No monthly download limits

Retention is to hold on to the customer, you're asking to leave them. You can only get a retention deal at the end of your contract. If you're not at the end that's why they want you to pay a fee. Wait until the end, then call to cancel, they'll call you back a day later with a new deal, then you can haggle!
J4GG4
22 Feb 17 #59
How are you guys getting retention deals?

I have never been able to get them, even with mobile phone contracts. They just don't offer me them.

Just on the phone to virgin media now and they say i must pay £125 to leave. How are you getting around this????

Exactly what theyve been saying to me - where are you based?
TheOak
22 Feb 17 #55
I currently have a 50mb Virgin media connection and have done a few speed tests on it- most evenings it hits roughly 1.5mb. I have spoken to Virgin two times about this and the best they have given in response is that "it might improve by the middle of April".

I am north-west London if anyone both cares and has read this far.

Does anyone know if other companies have more reliable speeds?

I'm on 50MB retention deal where I'm paying £16 per month all in, including line rental. To get this deal I cancelled my deal, and in the notice period they phoned to offer me this deal. I think it still included weekend calls too, but don't have a home phone plugged in. Up until about 2 months ago I was regularly getting 50MB on weeknights, but not over the weekend where it would sometime plummet to 1 or 2MB due to high demand. For at least the last month, during weeknights and weekends, it's mostly less than 1MB. Apparently I'm in a "high utilisation area", which from what I understand means that they are due to upgrade as their infrastructure can't cope, but might simply mean they've oversold too many packages. My advice would be check when you speak to someone that you're not in a "high utilisation area", as if so ask when you'll get the upgrade and decide accordingly, you will likely be getting nowhere near the advertised speeds of 50MB at the times most people want to use the service.

Unsurprisingly, no. The deal is not available for existing customers, which is a shame.
My contract finished last month and I just called VM. The best they can do is £38/month (broadband + phone) or £30/month for broadband only.

It's a retention deal, so you would already have to be a Virgin customer for them to offer this.

Am paying £39 for 150mb and phone. Keeps going up every 6 months or so, it did start on £28. Haggled it down to £32 once upon a time, but has since kept on rising.

Called them last week to get rid of the phone line to try make a saving as we don't even use the landline. They told us that the price will be more without the landline...!!

iam currently with BT and I want to leave. Are there any installation cost to go with virgin? and after 12 months if I decide to go back to non cable provider...will there be any cost? will I lose my current line?
Jinkz to sam1970
21 Feb 17 1 #18
It depends if they've already run cable to the house already, if they have, probably no install costs, but it's best just to put your postcode in and it'll tell you. If you want to go back to none cable afterwards there's no extra costs as they'll have already run the fibre on your BT Infinity contract.

The breakdown suggests a £40 fee if you need an engineer. Any thoughts?

Go through the process to see if you need one, just enter your postcode.

21 Feb 17 #12
Take it after 12 months it will revert to the standard £40 a month cost?

Thats correct, it's a 12 month contract, so just cancel, re-negotiate or go with someone else in 12 months.
