Decent price on this model (U85-AA-Re)
The next cheapest are refurbs although none of them have the 6 year guarantee that Vax are offering. You also get 30 days to return if there's an issue (as you'd expect)

True. This price is way cheaper to other retailers. Most selling it for £99.

Do I get one now or wait for the inevitable factory clearance in March?

I think with this price, i doubt it will go any lower even during the clearance  So, get it while it lasts

Exactly they do have a setting now, but its still not there yet.
Do you know of any vacuum cleaners that are generally good for carpets as i am planning to change mine and will definitely not have the Vax for the new one

These are quite good but like most other Vax, the problem is they are too harsh on carpets.
They destroyed my carpets by pulling up the upper pile. The one i got next was from Vax but had 2 settings one for low pile and one for high pile carpets. That worked fine when set to high pile. This one does not have that setting unfortunately.

Yes. You have nailed the point here. Most reviewers say that this vacuum is hard on carpet. It's too powerful and destroys carpets. Wish they had a setting to lower the suction power.

I have one of these, paid £90 and am very happy with it. Gets my carpets very clean. It feels much better quality than the price suggests.

Have a variant of this that came with a turbo brush included. It's ok. Has a nice long cord and extension hose. Sucks a little too hard on short pile carpet meaning it's a bit hard to push despite being light. Also the filter clogs up too frequently for my liking and has to be washed and dried every couple of weeks with light use. We paid £99 so at £69 this is a good price if you bear these issues in mind.

Got a Vax bagless cylinder vacuum in the last sale for 40-odd quid delivered and would never go back to Dyson's crazy prices. Very impressed...
