i don't think it works with wireless only PCs but if it's got an ethernet cable you can probably do it with 'Wake on lan' - saves buying a smart plug.

.Does this plug only work when connected to the home WiFi? I have tried to use from outside my home on other WiFi networks but it doesn't work. If it is possible to do so can someone please explain how to do it. Thanks

It needs to be always connected to the internet (via our wifi) but can be accessed from anywhere else where you have internet access provided that you are logged into your Kasa account as it is their server that actually controls your plug.

Could you not just use Team Viewer to do that via your mobile/ tablet or PC?

Killing the power to your on PC is more likely to cause further problems than just trying to rectify why it's hanging in the first place.
Smartguy1
16 Feb 17#46
My works PC hangs quite a few times and when using different programmes, running Win 7. Same on wife's Acer running windows 10 which was previously Win 7. Both quite old machines though. No issue with hanging on Macbook Pro though.

I'm lost because I'm old, about the posts talking about re booting routers when they lock up. If these need the internet to work, surely the reboot won't work. Pass the bed pan nurse.

G-Homa not compatible with Amazon Echo. Instructions are a bit iffy but it works fine once you have it connected. I will try another brand but odd that B & Q are cheaper than Amazon.
If anyone want to get one of these from B & Q don't spend ages trying to find one like I did. They are not where you would expect to find them. They are down the aisle where the lighting and lampshades are. I asked in the end.

does the Ghoma plug work with Alexa?
Smartguy1
16 Feb 17#39
I have the Ghoma one from B & Q which was £20.00. works well. Use it on the sky box in the bedroom as sky can't appear to make boxes that don't hum when on standby. As they take nearly 5 minutes to warm up fully comes in really handy.

very nice, but can't really justify spending £130 when this will do the same for less than £50

OP should edit the main price (£20.24) as they are £22.49 which isn't much of a saving.

Sorry should have explained that, it's not my main router it's my tp-link powerline going into a separate hub that feeds the av stuff in my loft (can't get wifi in my loft, and the powerlines often crash and need a reboot)
Aiadi
16 Feb 17#31
No they are totally separate issues. These do not have IFTTT integration but also they do not have the ability to turn off automatically (outwith a preset schedule). The latter function is a built-in feature of Wemo app that does not exist in these (and has nothing to do with IFTTT). Also turning them off on a schedule is utterly useless for on-demand operation (e.g. turning a heater on on-demand for it to be turned off automatically after 10 minutes or turning a lamp on remotely at any time for it to then turn off by itself after a specified time).
InTheKnow444
16 Feb 17#30
same price on Amazon £22:49
Aiadi
16 Feb 17#28
These have a much better wifi reach than Wemo but unfortunately they fail on lack of IFTTT integration and missing the very important feature of switching off automatically after a set time from being manually turned on (like the Wemo can).
InTheKnow444 to Aiadi
16 Feb 17#29
So basically, with IFTTT you can set it to turn off remotely say after 5 minutes, but as it stands, you can still turn it off after 5 minutes but you have to do it through your schedule.
swings and roundabouts for me.

Plug kettle into TP link socket, press green button to turn TP Link switch off, Fill kettle at least half way, switch kettle on.
Set Schedule for Switch or turn it on remotely using Kasa App or by voice control (Alexa)
Max power on these is 3kw which is the exact power of my kettle, no issues since November for me.
When you set socket up, just name it Kettle because if you call it after your friends wife, it will get confusing if he finds out you are turning her on several times a day!
Always make sure you always leave water in the kettle.

Nice! I've used Maker before, but I wasn't aware that you could use web hooks with the TP-Link stuff. I'll have a look, cheers.
You can "toggle for X seconds" I believe. So it changes to an "off" state for 30 seconds or so, then back on.

I've got them set up with:
various lamps (as I don't like the big bulky wifi bulbs, and have some chandelier style lamps with multiple bulbs)
my living room fire (its electric)
my wifi router (so I can reboot it remotely)
a dyson fan
my garden lights (so i can time them, but also activate them remotely)
xmas tree lights (now put away though)
It's great when you set them up with alexa, so you can just say alexa turn off the lamps or alexa turn on the fire
Biggunspaul to tim28
16 Feb 171#20
You say you've got your router connected to one of these, but if you tell it to switch off when you are out the house, how do you get it to turn back on again as it needs to use the router to be on in order for it to work.

No IFTTT integration, so it's a no go for me. I've got a D-Link that works great, but it's physically bigger than this, so after a smaller footprint.
I didn't think of that, should be the same as just turning it off at the switch? would only be very rare occasions

If you can find any in Sainsbury, they were reduced to £12-50p each in my local (bought 4 two weeks ago). I know there is unlikely to be much stock around now, but thought it worth mentioning, just in case you get lucky!
