And apparently PS4 is adding external HDD support soon too (and not to do with HDD but it will be in update along with along with a PS4 Pro boost mode, that may improve some games performance).

Probably fair to say you would have ruined any 3x applicable branded hard drive regardless of what make it is.. it's people like yourself who don't know how to use or treat hard drives which are the issue here, my toshiba canvio hd has lasted me for years.
