Found this in Asda Robroyston for only £15, fantastic buy considering how much content is included with the GOTY edition! Also in Asda Bishopbriggs, worth checking your local Asda's to see if they have any left in stock.

By the way, this is still working. Even though there weren't any on the shelves in my Asda in Birmingham I asked them to check stock and bingo they had 4. When he scanned it to get a price and it came up £15 the chaps said "Wow that's cheap!".

So anyone who has bought this has to post and let you know to satisfy what you think lol Why so negative? Shared a deal, if other people can get it great. If some Asda's have run out or don't have it then that's a shame but it's daft to suggest nobody else has got this deal when you have absolutely nothing to back up what you are suggesting! Two stores I was in had them, one was a smaller store too, so worth a punt to check your local Asda.

You couldn't run these games off the disc, differences between a bluray drive and hard drive are huge.
It would be nice if they digitally paired a disc with a console so you don't need the disc in the drive.

Faster read speeds doesn't mean a developer knows how to program efficiently, so take that up with EA. The Blu-Ray drives in the Xbox One and PS4 read at 6x, which is 27 MB/s. A slow, 5,400rpm hard drive will read at about 100 MB/s. People have installed SSDs, with read speeds of around 500 MB/s, in PS4s and found some games' loading times to be halved (from 30 to 15 seconds in some cases). Just imagine what those loading times would be like at Blu-Ray speeds.
Not sure what you're saying here. It's all digital information - you can't have a non-digital video game - but you can either buy them on discs or buy them digitally. Either way they need to be installed onto the hard drive because they can't be loaded from disc fast enough. If you're asking what is the point of disc/retail copies, well there's resale value, the fact that some people just like physical copies on their shelves and the fact that some people might have terrible internet connections so it's much easier for them to get the initial 40-50gb install from disc.
People who can't afford/don't want to add a larger hard drive, or don't have that many games. I'm primarily a PC gamer so I do have a lot of storage for games there, but that means I only use the consoles for exclusive games, which means 500gb is more than enough as it's only about 4-5 games per console. By the time anything else I want to play on them comes along I will have finished something that I can uninstall if I need to. If the Xbox One or PS4 was my primary platform, I would have bought a 1tb version or added a USB drive.
I know, that's why I only said you could do it with the PS4 (internally). But both consoles will let you install and run games from external USB 3.0 hard drives.
Okay, no, I didn't say they were cheap - that depends on the person. For someone who doesn't pay £40 for a game at launch and waits until they're £10 second hand, £60 for a 2tb drive might be a lot of money, so they will make do with installing/uninstalling/reinstalling as necessary. But to someone who can afford the latest releases every week, they can also afford to pick up a 2tb HD whenever they need more space.
As for the manufacturer - I didn't say they couldn't afford it, I said they're trying to make their console packages as cheap as possible to attract buyers. They might have started by saying 'We need to put at least a 1tb hard drive in these consoles because otherwise everyone is going to run out of space, but that means we'll have to charge £300,' and then they decided 'Actually, we'll also do a 500gb version because then we can charge just £250, which is a more appealing price and more people will buy it.' They'd rather have someone buy a console at £250 than not buy one at all because £300 is too expensive for them - and at least they've made it easy for the buyer to add more storage later.

Battlefield is slow to load as it is, but imagine how much worse it'd be if we were stuck with having to load games from the disc (27MB/s from disc vs 130MB/s or so from HDD). Sony and MS did the right thing by setting the standard that all games had to fully install from disc, but at the same time probably should've gone straight for 1TB as the base spec from the start.

Oh dear,
1.The point is read speed - current gen games aren't going to load quickly or run smoothly from an optical drive,
So that`s why it take God knows how long for Battlefield to load for start up on EA?
2.Hard drive read speeds are about 4x the speed of the Blu-Ray drives in the Xbox One and PS4. Also most games are going to get several large updates during their lifespan, which are obviously going to have to be stored and loaded from the HDD.
Are you kidding me?2017 and it needs to be stored on the hard drive, so what`s the point of digital.
On another note, not disparaging you, but are you old enough to remember the introduction of compact disc and how it was marketed to replace vinyl? Let me remind you, the most important thing about CD, we were told and it was marketed as due to scrathes on vinyl after years of usage, CD is so sophisticated that it will never scratches, we know how that turns out.
3.And, yes, 500gb isn't very much these days, but they're trying to make the consoles as cheaply as possible
LOL
4.if you just concentrate on 1-2 games at a time and delete them as you're finished with them.
Who does that?
5.(or you can easily replace the internal one in the PS4)
Can`t do with Xbox One S.
6. and a 2tb hard drive will cost you less than two new-ish games.
And defeats your argument, so hard drive that cheap, but the manufacturer cannot afford it.
reddragon105
20 Feb 171#36
That makes zero sense - firstly, don't confuse lots of DLC being released with a 'gimped' base game. The base game has about 50 hours of content, which is more than most games after DLC. Then there was an entire 'season' of DLC (an additional 50 hours of content) released for free to all owners of the game before they made the two paid-for expansion packs (with another 30 hours of content between them). Secondly, even if they did 'gimp' the base game, how would that pull in the pre-orders? The standard incentive is to offer more DLC, not less. Removing content only to add it later as free DLC would make people more likely to wait for a complete edition, such as this, rather than pre-ordering. It seems more like an effort to encourage people to keep coming back to the game to explore the additional content as it was released, and it's a move that CD Projekt Red have been repeatedly praised for.

So just look at it as a case of the game needs to be on HDD but to play it you need to prove you own it, and that can either be a permanent digital license or the presence of a disc in the drive, which at least has the advantage of resale value or being able to borrow games from friends (but not both at the same time - that's how you lose friends!).
