I bought this set for £30 last year. The 3D-ness of it was quite impressive but the actual films were far too long (making a book half the size of the Fellowship into three films will obviously involve a lot of filler). It's the only box set that I've watched and sold immediately on Ebay! Not a patch on LOTR (love those extended editions).
However, if you have £30 burning a hole in your pocket and nothing to do for 12 hours, it's better than watching repeats of Friends or Top Gear! However, I would rather read the book in 6 hours and then watch the Fellowship again.
I know people don't generally trust Ebay but it seems to be on there for £24 inc postage (new & sealed) - just saying

This is £40 on Amazon and was £44 yesterday, so not the same price at all.

That was last year, and it will be back down sometime in the future, but in case you are forgetting this is now.

Exactly! It's a great deal and as far as I can tell it's the best price available at the moment... Which is exactly the purpose of this website!

Watched the extended the other day (not seen the standard cut)... jeeezus it drags. LOTR was one of my favourite and extended editions added something, think its unnecessary here.

Can you post a link (if permitted) as I don't see the extended edition for that price?

Nowhere near as good as the LOTR trilogy!

If only Zavvi could be trusted NOT to ship it in a padded envelope.
Fingers crossed Amazon will price match.
Oh, and it has NEVER been the same price at Amazon:
Yeah, that really annoys me! I've had a few boxsets arrived damaged like that, and suggested they use different packaging...but oh no, they still blindly persist using the padded envelope (brain dead).

Thx OP ordered. It will go well with the LOTR extended set...

Absolute toilet. Loved the book as a child. Peter Jackson himself admits pretty much everything was done on the wing. Disgraceful rendition and a shameful money making exercise. It didn't need to be three films long. I could thing of many things to describe this, but they'd get me banned. A real shame and opportunity missed.

Works out at £3.31 per hour of epicness... Heat!

It was slightly cheaper at Amazon around Black Friday fortnight - I bought it for £27.99, but really can't complain for a couple quid extra. Do Zavvi still do their 10% off code in an email? as that would drop it lower.

This is the link I was talking about. You've got me questioning myself now, although it does seem legit 2nd time of looking (just searched "Hobbit 3D").

Not the extended edition by the looks of it - just standard and 3D trilogy.
