I see the Co-op frozen meal deal get posted every 3 weeks here but I've never seen anyone mention anything about the sub-lines that generally to replace out of stock items but may be handy for people to know for dietary requirements etc that may want to replace an item in the meal deal. Most stores generally stock the sub-line usually so you'll have to find it on the main shelving in its usual place.

The current meal deal is:

Aunt Bessies Chicken and Bacon Pie (£4.00)
Sub: Aunt Bessies Steak Pie (£4.00) (5000227505260)

Aunt Bessies Homestyle Mash (£1.99)
Sub: Aunt Bessies Chunky Croquettes (£1.59) (5000227506052)

Co-op Garden Peas (£1.00)
Sub: Co-op Sliced Carrots (£1.00) (5000128890496)

Aunt Bessies Roly Poly (£1.79)
Sub: Aunt Bessies Apple Pie (£1.75) (5000227505345)

Co-op Vanilla Ice Cream (£2.00)
Sub: Co-op Toffee Ice Cream (£2.00) (5000128861403)

Might try. I'm not a fan of jam roly poly, so might try with apple pie. Would worry the deal wouldn't activate and the cashier will be looking for £11 or so

In my experience these are great deals let down by bad inventory procedures.
Usually only have 1 or 2 out of the 3 elements of the deal.
Always happened at our local Late Shop.
I complained to the Manager. His answer?
"That's what they send us in"!
Great management, pal.
They actually had a refurb about 12 months before they closed down. Taller shelving units, wider shelves. More room for more stock?
Yep.
Let down by crappy stock control where the deals were rarely ever properly ordered in or stock levels fully maintained!

The local store usually sells out of 1 item in the deal after the first day, then the rest just sit there all week because nobody can get the deal anymore. When it finishes, they end up discounting the unsold stock individually to clear it, apart from the few lines of normal stock. I've asked staff about substitutes on a couple of occasions but they always deny that any variation will work!

15 Feb 17 #20
Is that definite as I'd rather have all the alternatives except for the frozen peas. I've got a £1 off £10 voucher so quite like to do the alternative deal twice.

I was a bit annoyed when we got a new local shop and it was coop rather than a Tesco Express but I've noticed Tesco Express pricing seems to have gone up a bit in recent times with less deals and lower price items that you get in main Tesco's. The local Coop shop is actually really good with a great range, decent offers and some pretty decent short life reductions.

Our local co op never tells us about subs, sometimes I don't buy offer as no one eats one or two of items. This one is good have had pie before.

With the £5 frozen deal that included a pizza, garlic bread & Haagen Dazs a few months ago, the manager in our local allowed you to substitute any out of stock item with any other in the deal... is that not the case elsewhere?
1 pizza & 4 tubs of Strawberry Cheescake Haagen Dazs for a fiver - what a deal that was!

2 tubs ? so they never gave you the 50% off voucher :laughing:

What a good manager, that hits store profit but equally goodwill is goodwill - if you cant get the stock in you advertise as promotions then companies should adhere to goodwill, lower profits would make the responsible teams actually work the promos. - most smaller retailing do not have hold areas of excess promo stock, crazy.

Reminds me of being a young lad working for Texaco, we were having issues with Excel deliveries. At a massive staff meeting in some uber posh hotel with the area manager we were doing role play in how to approach and apologise to customers (YES REALLY!), of course the fool choose me to play the patron in a restauRANT and every time I asked for something off said menu I was told it was not available each time before the AM interjected and asked me to respond to my waiter awkwardly, so I did.. "oh I see there is a problem, you have upper management who outsourced your deliveries to Excel too & even they cant sort the problem deliveries out!, Ill just have a gin an tonic then please thanks" grabbed my G&T off the table and downed it in one. Room was in stitches.

Man I was cocky back then when the adults around me let me down. HAHA :laughing:

That quick wit got me a job offer of management, thinking & acting on my feet - I already was known as such by AM as that and a grafter.

I used to argue with HO at companies all the time about their failures and how it would not be coming out my store profits my customer left happy after their failure/s :laughing::laughing:

I have taken employee complaints through numerous companies numerous levels even up to operating directors that my 'goodwill' costs should not come off my store profits because HO cannot get stock into stores - and won everytime! Simply why should my store and performance run at a loss because HO cannot run a tight happy ship like myself on the ground.

We need managers like the lady above at the Co-op. Managers that hold the company accountable to consumers and their own career.

In fairness to the Co-op and their operating costs, the pizza probably cost them say 50p and the ice-cream maybe £1 a tub, so they were possibly still making a small profit or breaking about even and I have shopped there many times since - that is the real value of good customer service in my eyes. Anyway she offered the deal and I wasn't going to refuse it

Exactly, good on her. I find it crazy that to sell booze you need a licence but when you are refusing to accept giving a refund on a faulty item under Consumer Protection no training or licence is required on such just a flawed company policy that mostly breaches legislation, its always good to hear of any manager that goes the extra mile - as they all should!

If your Member card is scanned with the shopping then yes, you would get 5% back on your card for the Co-op branded items (peas/carrots & ice cream) worth 15p, and 1% (3p) towards the charity.

As long as you get the appropriate sub for each item then it'll work in participating stores.

Any tired buying with subs? Is it automatically or manual input at till?
iCoxyyyy to phadge

Edit - and I can guarantee you these will work because I've tried them all

Not all store have big enough back up freezers and when they send the meal deals in some logic some where sends x amount of box's of each but does not consider the items come in different quantities . So end up with too much of one thing and not enough of another . The substitute is up to the store not all store offer that service . Mud cards are checked and scanned at the till .

Got this from my lovely local Co-op last night. My daughter ani had half the pie for tea with some mash and peas. Using the rest up for lunch. Jam roll Poly and ice cream unopened in the freezer to be used later. Enjoyed the pie. Great deal.

20 Feb 17 #53

I just tried it on the Coop from Waterloo - Liverpool, and it didn't work, I even told them that I've seen online that I could substitute the items and they said they never heard about it. I tried to replace the Roly Poly for the Apple Pie and the Vanilla Ice Cream for the Toffee Ice Cream, I even checked the prices to make sure I was replacing the right items. I would recommend to ask the staff first, even before taking the items to the till, even better if you can print this page and show them, otherwise you are in for some headache.
flick3k
27 Feb 17 #54
For reference, the Seaton Valley Lakes & Dales store doesn't allow you to substitute... or should I say the till doesn't.
