I'd agree, use the cash for a nicer KB/M set up. Or if you're wanting to sofa play, get an xbox 360/one controller (a nicer feel over ps3 and my choice over ps4 controller).

I was also disappointed. The controls are nice but it feels a bit cheap (especially the big touch pad things).
As you say, a bit of a learning curve but it definitely isn't a substitute for KB/M.
I'd say use the money to upgrade your Keyboard or Mouse instead!

There is probably a delivery charge but you can get the bundle from steam £39.58 at the moment, would highly recommend the devices though i just bought 2 steam Links.
I suggest you buy them separately in case you don't get on with the steam controller, allot of people don't. If you don't you might end up having to fart about trying to sell it second hand and lose money, or have it end up on your shelf collecting dust.
I have both, and i like them both but a friend of mine just couldn't adapt to the steam controller regardless of how much he liked it.
Its a good price though OP!

In this day and age I would have thought it would run better on batteries rather than steam.
Same individual prices as Steam are offering them this weekend, just the Steam postage makes their offer very much more expensive than buying from Game. Bundle of controller and link has a lower price (£39.58) but they add over £10 shipping once you go through the checkout process, unlike Game who are doing free delivery.

is the controller any good? I'm unsure about it due to its lack of sticks

It's horrible to use.
I got it on the first wave of pre orders (2 months before retail release).
Used it for an hour or so, then off to ebay it went.
I wouldn't recommend it. Has a steep learning curve.

Controller was a bit of a nightmare at first but if you put in the effort it's well worth it. I'll never go back to using a standard controller. Like I said you need learn how to set it up to your liking. Using it with the new Doom was what brought me around. :sunglasses:

mixed bag but for some games it works really well once you master it. However I think steam now allow you to use xbox 360 pad in steam controller profiles so that might be a better purchase. I do like the customisability though and once you get used to it not a bad product. Also worth noting you can add your origin games to Steam and use the steam controller with them too.

I'd say it's great if you're playing certain types of games. I tend to play third person RPG's and realistic shooters with the controller. RPG's slower pace makes it fine to use, and generally better than a regular gamepad I'd say. For realistic shooters using a twin stick gamepad is out of the question because of no aim assist. This controller with the pad for aim + gyro for fine aiming makes it far more useful.
There is a big learning curve though so stick with it and I'm sure you'll love it.

Just the controller (plus other less useful stuff) left? See the previous thread: http://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/steam-controller-case-27-99-game-2582990
