Third off both Wii u and 3ds versions, not sure which to go for to be honest, leaning towards 3ds version.

offer finishes day before switch is released. on 3rd March I believe the price will go up to match the £20 or so it will cost on Switch

URRR, that's so annoying. Nintendo won't say jack about cross-downloads for the eShop but, frankly, it'd be pretty stupid to give away two home console copies for one price.
Can dream, though...

HOT! Got it before the price rises.

Never played it but heard it's great. Not sure to get now on 3ds or wait for Switch version next week. Any recommendations?
Hmm, do I hold out for a Vita price drop? I notice the PS4/PS3/Vita version is on sale in the US/Canada...

Wii u has co op mode if you have the amiibo.

Almost posted this myself but then remembered I once decided i'd die a 1000 deaths before adding to the over hype that is shovel knight.
I hate shovel knight like some hukders hate 'the nations favourite' bit. That reminds me where is...

Agree with this. such an overhype for what would be considered a pretty bog standard game if it was released 20 years ago on the snes

why isn't this cross buy?! Stupid Nintendo

It's up to Yacht Club Games actually. They probably decided it wasn't financially beneficial due to development costs for both the 3DS and the Wii U. Best we got was a cross buy discount on release. Think I remember seeing that there were potential exploit about cross buy which is why we didn't see many releases doing it - ah, found it - http://www.nintendolife.com/news/2015/03/nintendos_implementation_of_cross-buy_is_surprisingly_generous

If I buy this now, will it transfer to my Switch?

To make anyone's minds up, WiiU version has two player mode coming (sans amiibo) next week, 3DS does not.

Also, if you buy now, you get Spectre of Torment campaign for free on the 3rd and I think they're removing the requirement to complete the game to access Plague Knight's campaign, but from the 3rd the price goes up to reflect the size of the game...

Nice! Been watching this for a good long time, but went for the 3DS version, as I'd bo more likely to play it on the move. Thanks, OP!

Went for the 3ds version too, glad I did, I think playing on the game pad would have been too spongey for this

Nice one, been patiently waiting for this to drop for a long time. Grabbed it this morning. Very very good game.

If you have 10 minutes to spare I really recommend this video by IGN about Shovel Knight...
Ign is the most shamefaced paid for review site there is. It's pay for positive and has been that way for many years sadly.
It's a polished game I give it that but it's nothing special. I get a massive emperor's new clothes vibe from it. Towards the end of the snes's life there were some impressive games that pushed the console that looked and sounded pretty choice + imo, better than this.

Except the SNES could never have hoped to render that many sounds and assets. Maybe it would have extra hardware installed in the cartridge to pull it off, but it likely still wouldn't have been enough, or would have been ridiculously prohibitively expensive.

I should correct my description of the video. IGN used it over the last couple of weeks and why it was fresh in my memory and easy to search for. It is actually a Game Maker's Toolkit video made by Mark Brown in August last year which is independent of IGN and maybe more trustworthy if that helps any. This is the link to the original video...
I bought and played this on 3DS a year or so ago. it really is excellent.

Reviews and people rave about a lot of Indie games and a majority for me are underwhelming. Shovel Knight, though is absolutely superb. If you like platform games, 8-bit, NES, Mega Man etc Buy this right now...it's ridiculously good! Grab the Amiibo while you're at it too!
