whilst roku make the now tv box, Sky commissioned then to restrict full functionality. you're right there are loads of boxes but they're not as good as this one

buy cheap buy twice
depends what you want out of a "box".
This is a great price for a top end box that has all the services you should need installed with official partner apps, RF remote with headphone ability, Ethernet connection, speedy UI etc....
If you just want a basic player that will play your pirate downloads you could probably go cheaper
I've been there and its not worth the hassle once you start to want "more"

If you plan on using it for Plex then the Roku uses the latest version of plex, only the old Plex classic app can be loaded on the now Tv and the difference is huge...new version is so much nicer to use....

I bought the roku stick a month ago and it's the best £20 I've spent for a while.
prime, now tv and Netflix all in one stick, no need to have various boxes and having to swap hdmi cables all the time (yes, I know that I can buy a hdmi splitter).

Great box. Had since came out & still going strong. Bought some as presents & everyone loves it. Tried Amazon 4K but didn't rate it as much as this. Just wish was as good streaming wise as the USA ones.

Also the Roku 3 is a lot faster and snappier to use than the Roku stick, no interface lag at all.

Good deal. I don't need the latest and fastest so hopefully there will be some deals on the roku 2 box. Si

Without Kodi I just couldn't get into my Roku and replaced it with a fire tv which better suited my needs.

I bought one of these last time they were at £50, really pleased with it
I connect via LAN rather than wireless and it's so much faster and more reliable than my Sony TV apps, Chromecast or trying to watch Netflix via a Tivo box

Excuse my ignorance but is one of these essentially the same as getting an android box? Currently signed up to Netflix and NowTV and trying to find a smarter way to go about it.

It supports both Netflix and Now TV, which I subscribe to. The wireless remote is brilliant, and the interfaces are designed to work well with it. Minor annoyance is typing with on screen keyboard, but that's not often needed. I've also used Amazon Prime, Google Play Movies and Plex. All the main channels' catch-up are available, although iPlayer is miles better than the others. Doesn't support Google Play music, and the Spotify app is very basic. Sorry, a bit of a rambling brain dump here!

If you use the iOS / Android Roku app when needing to type it is so much easier
