Do you need a paypal to purchase from simply games?, because when i try and checkout, and Pay with debit or credit card, but down towards the bottom of the page it says Create a PayPal account, which i do not have or want a paypal account.

It looks like their payment portal is PayPal, so no way around that, unless you phone them to order, I guess.

UPDATE: Scratch that, they can't take payment over the phone for this either. She told me half of the products on their website can only be bought through PayPal. I'm guessing they're using some sort of drop-shipping system to get lower prices.

I ordered my copy at 08:20 this morning and it said "placed successfully". I guess i was lucky. I don't know how many people ordered the game before this time on their website so will be interesting to see if i actually get my copy of the game.
