I think this was already listed here and the deal has expired, but it looks that it is on sale again.
I bought two of these myself, one for a 6 year old and one for my mum and so far so good. There was a lot of talking about 1GB RAM being not enough to handle Windows 10, but we have not had any issues with them after 2 weeks of use.
Obviously they are not as fast as my PC, but they can easily handle web-browsing, watching movies, playing simple games etc. so what else do you want from a £29.99 product?

On that note, what are the "top end" 1GB units you have, I have £30 burning a hole in my pocket and would happily take you up on your offer.

1GB of ram is just poor for todays apps etc, I've had and used many other tablets that are 1GB, I stopped using mine a year ago when they were impossible to use, anything I've used since with 1GB is a nightmare, and my units are kept to a bare minimum and cleaned on a reg basis, the problem is - the lack of memory and every more memory hungry apps, plus background system crap that's impossible to get rid of... If someone offered me £30 each for the stash of 1GB top end units I have I'd bite their hands off, so I certainly wouldn't buy nor recommend buying a "refurb" low end tablet for £30, in comparison, if you rely on a car to get you to work and back, this is a donkey... so don't waste £30.

A lot of peeps would want a tab just to surf the net...this would appear fine for that. It ain't always about apps :smirk:

OMG...Change the record. We all know it's not going to set the world on fire or run 8 VMs at once and it's not as powerful as high end laptop etc etc. It's fine for basic stuff and it's £30. Move on

I can see more than a few people going to work on their "Ass's" tomorrow. Like buying a hot air balloon with a tealite heat source... Going nowhere fast.

Shutup nobody cares , What are you going to do with more than 1gb Ram on a tablet? A tablet is not a good alternative to a desktop computer or laptop , The screen is far too small to do any kind of serious work on it . A tablet works fine with 1gb for most games and media except maybe the next gen games optimized for tegra chips , Most games work absolutely fine as devs have taken into account the majority of users across the world with standard specs rather than the minority on higher end devices, Why would they limit their own games to a small audience. I've got a quad core 1.0gb device with 1gb ram and I've played most games absolutely fine including games like titan quest and ridge racer , Infact I've played on a dual core 1.6gb tablet which again had no issues with performance .

Windows 10 on a 16gb rom would be a struggle, nevermind the 1gb ram.
My 32gb tablets had to be formatted to install the anniversary updates as it requires a few 100mb's extra space (I only had Chrome installed extra) and even now I'm using just over 16gb storage.

Couple of questions.. how does this compare to the cheap amazon fire tablet (which I do find horrifically slow).. and how does windows treat sd memory - can you install apps to that?

You could probably replace Windows with Android X86 for a faster operation.

To be honest it's a shame there's not some other OS you could put on this that would have access to lots of apps and use a lot less resources than Android.
I mean I'm sure there's some flavour of Linux that could do just that but nothing I know of that could work on a device like this.

You might just be better off buying a different tablet if you don't want to use Windows. The Amazon Fire 7 is currently £35 new.

Android IS a version of Linux...embedded Linux to be exact. It's designed to be lighter. It's not Android that makes the devices "heavy" it's the UIs of the individual companies.

If its a common processor (the atom is), then its just down to drivers.
The problem with tablets are the locked boot loaders, imagine of PCs were like this! (actually, some are getting that way).

Hot for the price, but the spec is painful - 16GB will need careful management or the ability to update will soon be lost - this is potentially more of a pain than the 1GB RAM .... I installed Win10 in 1GB on an old P4 and it wasn't too awful - possibly helped by the fact that I connected a SSD for the test!
The 16GB flash probably isn't as quick as a decent SSD, since it's probably only a single channel controller, but still way faster than HDD.
Tempted to get one and pair with a spare external HDD to make a low power consumption server.

It's not an SSD, it's eMMC which is probably worse but fine for the purposes intended. To be fair, 16GB storage is more restrictive than the 1GB RAM IMO.

Is there an app I could install on this to use it as a remote for my htpc, or to control kodi?
captainbeaky to vardx
8 Feb 171#31
You could always use the Kodi web interface to control your Kodi installation from a web browser on your tablet.
At this price you buy it as a disposable tablet for checking your emails or occasional browsing for recipes in the kitchen or use in other hazardous environments;-) Voted hot

Thanks for that. I was hoping there might be a Windows universal app in the works, with similar functionality to the Android version.
I wonder if we might be able to install the upcoming Windows Cloud OS on this? It looks like Windows RT 2.0, but I'm curious to try it out.

Aye. To be honest though I have no need for either tablet, infaxt I have a similar ons sittting in a drawer.
This may be cheap but I honestly beleive it's overpriced. These things are almost junk now, I reckon Zoostorm know this and are just trying to shift old stock and cut thsir losses. If no one buys them they'll probably just bin thsm I expect.
Don't get me wrong, they have value to us techies and maybe granny ahk only uses a web browser to check emails and the bbc website but to retailers this thing is too old to havs much value.

I bought this exact tablet a few years ago at ASDA and I've since upgraded it to Windows 10 (via usb stick). I have Steam running on it and a 128GB micro-sd card in it for media/steam games. The battery on it is brilliant, easily get as much hours on this as my ipad mini. Well worth £30 in my opinion. Just be aware 16gb = about 3-4gb of free space with windows so you'll need a micro-sd card and you can set any downloads and documents to default save to sd-card in windows 10 easily. I have it in an iPad mini keyboard case and it's like a tiny laptop.
The only gripe I have is the screen size is not great for touch on windows, really needs 8" minimum but with a keyboard case it helps a LOT.

Purchased 3 of these, 1 was dead on arrival(just a red flashing light), 1 was at 60% charge and wouldn't go up (despite being plugged in for about 5 hours), the last one has a faulty headphone jack.
All in all though if it didn't have a faulty headphone jack I would have kept it as it seems a pretty capable tablet, streams videos and can play many games like Roblox and minecraft.
Also if you are buying things from eBay as a multi purchase and return 1 of them it makes it difficult to then arrange a return for the next one, ended up having to ring eBay to get the return sorted for the next 2 as I noticed the faults at different times!
