Less than half price, bargain.

The black one is still original price only the red one that's reduced.

I currently have the classic but I've reserved this one to collect today

I have an Apple Watch currently and never reply to anything on it. I miss the week-long battery on the Pebble and frankly don't need all the bells and whistles. All I need a smartwatch for is to tell me if I need to bother getting my phone out of my pocket, tell the time and buzz my wrist for alarms and timers. Unfortunately I would lose so much money selling my stainless steel Apple Watch that I begrudge doing so, and keep hold of it for that reason (and that I don't have anything else to use). I wish my local Argos had one of these as it's a price I can justify for a second smartwatch for daily use - obviously the Apple Watch looks a bit smarter 'for the weekend'.

I never experienced the bluetooth issues you mentioned with any of my old Pebbles - from the classic, the steel and through to the Time Steel. My Time Steel unfortunately broke so I had to get a refund on it and haven't owned a Pebble since.

The way people are talking on here it's as if they're going to all spontaneously combust on February 28th or something. There are certain price points where things are worth buying, even if the long-term prospects aren't there. Some people (like me) really enjoyed their Pebble and are disappointed that every manufacturer is moving to OLED screens and basically trying to make smart watches into mini phones. I lose more than £59 by buying Smartphones and selling them on a few months later so £59 for something that I might only use for 6 months and then keep for nostalgia value doesn't seem bad to me. All the claptrap about it having 'no warranty' is laughable - do people honestly think that Argos would turn you away 5 months down the line if it broke? They'd be breaking the law.

I think that's a cracking price. Yes, Pebble is on it's way out but if this has the functionality you need, then at this price it's a steal. Personally, I don't like the appearance of these, and only need the basics from a smartwatch so bought a used Pebble Steel. So far, so good!
Neo1607
16 Feb 17 2 #3
May be a sinking ship in regards to future firmware updates since Fitbit bought them but still a cracking watch for the price. It does what it says on the watch and if the classic is anything to go by they are reliable

No GPS built in, uses the phone for distance.
Its first and foremost a smart watch, 2nd a fitness device rather than the other way round.

No gps tracking. It's a simple everyday smartwatch.

It's a smart watch. Doesn't need future support. If you want a watch with good apps, there have always been 'better' options. Would dump my Apple Watch for this if there were one local to me!
qinyanggl
16 Feb 17 2 #13
We are talking about the death of a eco-system. With it dying in the near future, it will get less and less new apps supporting it, and the apps that are supporting it now, may stop doing so as they version up.
jamhops
16 Feb 17 2 #14
Still a bit steep considering new functionality and no guarantee of continue support oh and no warranty... Other than Argos of course
misterleoni to jamhops
17 Feb 17 #18
Argos warranty is great, surely. Why would you need anything else? If they can't get it fixed then you'd get *all* your money back - WIN.

As for new features and upgrades - IMO you buy this phone for notifications, silent alarms and an always-on display with great battery life. If you're looking for more features then there are better smart watches anyway, but for the features above this watch is solid as a rock and I still miss my Pebble.

Oh and it's £59. Pocket change really.

The app should work for years - I'm still using apps on iOS that haven't even been properly updated for iOS 7!

Why? It doesn't even work on iOS and it's pretty rubbish even on Android. I used it for five minutes and never even thought about it again.

17 Feb 17 2 #20
It would be nice if people would stop being such negative Nancys. Yes the Pebble platform is dead as we know it, people KNOW the app ecosystem isn't going to grow and may even stop working one day. But for those who didn't even use apps and just wanted the bare bones functionality of a smart watch that gives you notifications, this is still a great watch. You still get the warranty from Argos (and a full refund if it breaks within a year and they can't provide a replacement), you'll still get notifications, alarms etc forever because they don't rely on a cloud infrastructure...and it's £59. Hardly breaking the bank even if it only worked for 6 months.

Every single Pebble thread has the same old comments.
David815
17 Feb 17 #21
I'm a huge fan of pebble, I use a steel time and before that had a steel.
great watches at a great price.
But seriously do not buy this! there's just too much risk involved. yes they may work for years to come, but just as easily they may stop working entirely in weeks!

Also absolutely ZERO manufacturers warranty and support. And that's now.

Don't risk it!
preecey
17 Feb 17 1 #22
For God's sake, get a grip.

There is no way on earth they'll just stop working as you say it. What do you expect them to do? Every single one of them to just go dead at the same time? LOL. When the plug does eventually get pulled on these, the vast majority of the functions of the watch will still work. Come on, you know it.

Plus it's £59. You're speaking like it's the same price as an Apple Watch.

Who cares about zero manufacturing warranty? You have 12 months' OBLIGATORY retailer's warranty as standard. If anything happens, and they can't find stock to replace it, you'll get a full refund in the first year.

I love my Pebble Time but for some unknown reason, I've not been getting any notification to the watch for the past 2 days- anyone else had this?

I've tried factory reset a few times now to no avail.

Been using the Huawei W1 since and can barely feel the vibration alert as that's what I tend to keep it on. No such problems on the Pebble Time.

17 Feb 17 #28
I disagree. Do risk it if you like the watch, have your eyes fully open to what might happen, and are OK to take it on the chin should that happen. I bought another pebble steel last week. The app might stop working next week, hopefully it won't.

I used to own a Pebble and Pebble Time smartwatch. I loved it so much. However, it didn't work perfectly. Sometimes the bluetooth would just disconnect mysteriously and I wouldn't receive notifications from my iPhone until I go through the process of disconnecting it from bluetooth and pair it again. I've now moved onto an Apple Watch which last me 2 full days (heart rate monitor turned off) and it is hassle free. I can reply to iMessages, whatsapp, facebook messenger etc from Apple Watch which I couldnt do with Pebble. At first I though it would be a hassle for the display screen to be constantly off when not active. But it makes receiving notifications more private so it doesn't alert people to my attention say in a meeting for example. I am extremely let down by Pebble, who foolishly kept releasing new product within a short period and didn't focus on marketing. Everyone knows what an Apple Watch is, but not many people have heard of a Pebble Watch. You get what you pay for.

I backed this one on kickstarter. It's a really nicely made watch, but as far as an iOS user goes, all it really does is vibrate for alerts and give you a snippet of that on your wrist. I barely ever wear mine, but it is nice and the strap is one of the best I've had on a watch.

yeh I agree with you, my post was very strongly worded, but it needed to be to make sure people were open eyed about the severity of the situation they may find themselves in.

Severity. Hilarious.
David815
17 Feb 17 #38
you are obviously correct, but I say may stop working. and that is clear, it may do.
Who is to say what might happen when the app stops getting updates, it may start being buggy with any new OS updates. you might find you can no longer connect to the app with your phone, remember pebble relies on the app to connect, not the android built in app. So it is 100% valid to say it MAY stop working ENTIRELY.
I was mearly warning potentially buyers of the risk.

I personally was also annoyed with things like not being able to buy genuine accessories anymore etc.

I'm sorry if I went OTT, but I feel anyone buying these new have a right to know fully what the situation may be soon.

I'm speaking like I wouldnt want a reader to spend £59 not knowing the risk. it's not pocket money for a lot of readers, as you are making out.

Even now, people are still creating watchfaces for the Pebble. One was released two days ago inspired by the watchface in Resident Evil 7 Biohazard and it's free!

My Pebble Time Steel will stop working once I can't charge the battery anymore.
misterleoni to raggedy
17 Feb 17 #41
Exactly. It's not like any of these cheapo Chinese import phones get support after people spend far more than £59 on them. It's somewhat patronising to assume people don't know about Pebble already - people are pretty savvy on this site. If anything *literally* stopped working within a year then you could simply return it to Argos, as long as those features are mentioned on the packaging. I don't really understand what the risk is at all in this, other than that they might all implode on the 13th month. Even then it was only £59 - £4.92 a month for a year of utility. Not bad! And who buys official accessories for these anyway? Third party charges work just fine on these, and you can get far nicer normal 22mm watch straps than the Pebble ones.

You wouldn't get your money back from Argos if the platform ceased working.
misterleoni
17 Feb 17 #48
Tell me, technically, how could the platform 'cease working'? Either way, you arguably could get your money back, since the item would become 'significantly not as described'. I don't know if this is true or not as I'm hypothesising like you; but either way...it's £59 FFS. If you don't like it, don't buy it.
preecey to misterleoni
17 Feb 17 #50
I agree with everything you've said.
I'm not made of money, far from it actually. But this is a steal for a perfectly capable basic smartwatch that does the essentials really well: it tells the time, relays notifications from your phone, allows you to quickly respond to text messages with preset (and user programmable responses), it's water resistant to 50m, has great battery life, the screen is always on and is easily read in direct sunlight, and has a handful of intuitive apps like next bus and train times.

Breaks down within the first year? Take it back to Argos for a no-quibble refund.
ipswich78 to misterleoni
18 Feb 17 #56
I'm not hypothesising. If they switch the servers off the app ceases to work and it all becomes defunct. And no, Argos wouldn't refund.

Additionally you can install android wear on your phone and it gives you extra notifications and some other added features (can't remember 100% what they are) but worth adding that as well as the standard pebble app
omgpleasespamme
17 Feb 17 #52
I'm not an iOS user but I actually use it multiple times a day on Android. If it didn't work I'd possibly have some no name Chinese watch, I definitely wouldn't have my Pebble Time Steel. To be honest, I wasn't ever going to buy another Pebble as the whole Kickstarter experience was terrible and it wasn't value for money. I'm not surprised there won't be another.

MissionaryMan

I think you'll find they've offered you $50 (not £) off a Fitbit. Also, it's only available in the USA. So, not much of a deal, really.
aaronlovesfood
18 Feb 17 #55
So if Fit bit do ever pull the plug on the servers, would we still get notifications from our phones and install new clockfaces

Thats all I care about
misterleoni
20 Feb 17 #57
The app would still work, and Argos would have to give a refund in that event as the hardware no longer worked - something that any hardware is obliged to do for 12 months, regardless of the fault being in hardware or software.
MPLP
21 Feb 17 #58
Not a bad deal all things considering. I bought the gold Pebble Time with red leather strap brand new off eBay for £60 a few weeks ago which I'm really pleased with it (even though it does have an Iron Man look to it). Fingers-cross that Rebble.io takes off and they find a way of hosting Pebble services.
