Enter the code FAM17MS online at Family & Friends Railcard before 11.59pm on Mon 20 Feb, and you can get the railcard for £24, instead of the usual £30.
Thought this was going to be a winner, then noticed you HAVE to travel with a child... might look a bit weird if I try and borrow one on the train...

Do they ever ask for ID for journeys? So would this be effectively transferable (altho against T&Cs of course)

I've been using this card for years and never been asked to show ID.

Has anyone bought and received the card? How long did it take for the card to arrive after ordering online? I desperately need it for next week. TIA

stokerej said 'You cannot use the railcard on trains before 9.30 am.' which is inaccurate and incorrect. Peak times vary between stations, for example Wakefield can be off-peak before 7am. Details of when the card can be applied are on the website.
That's interesting? I've been told at a station in Horwich that it cannot be used at peak time? So is this only a rule within London?

Two together card is worth looking at, if you travel often with the same person, have no kids, and are in between all the other cards.

I noticed as well at the end of the transaction they give you a discount code for a £20 discount of a YHA family membership so only £10 ATOCJF-13 was the code I got so probably universal if anyone missed it.

Mine just expired last week, looking at a different card. Not sure about anyone else but I know before when I put it through the ticket machine at the barrier, it's never let me through. I've had to show the person manning the gate. Luckily I always had a child
Time Restrictions:
Your Family & Friends Railcard is NOT valid when travelling between two stations inside London and the South East area during morning peak time.
Morning off-peak services vary by route, so it's a good idea to check before buying your tickets.

Unlike me, please give the T&C's the once over. You cannot use the railcard on trains before 9.30 am. Not worth it, if you are travelling on a reasonable long journey i.e. Newcastle - Kings Cross)and would like to be there before lunchtime. However, it would be applicable on the return journey.

We take our son to GOSH regularly and it's cheaper to buy two adults and a child than two adults, even though he doesn't need a ticket yet. The sad part is if we used the disabled ticket it's even more expensive off peak!

We do the same at least twice a year with my son. Looking at booking the next set of tickets and total of around 40% discount. Wish I did this 5 years ago. over £24 saved in one journey

For those asking why they need to have a child with them, this card is Not for you.!
Cloxie
1 Feb 17#19
They don't unless they stop you to look, or if an inspector comes along on the train. It clearly says Friends and Family on the ticket so they'll ask to see both your discount card (which you have to have with you) and they'll look for a child as part of the group. I suppose you could buy a child ticket as they're so cheap that you'll probably still get a good discount!

How does this work exactly? How do they enforce the rules of having to have a child with you when you use your Oyster card at the ticket barrier?

I have renewed my Family & Friends railcard for the last few years around this time and there is usually a £10 off code knocking around - I've never paid more than £20 for the card. Just wondering if this is going to be the best offer this time...

they've never asked me for ID on journeys. but when you buy, you put your own name on the card and can also choose one other lead adult, so my brother and I share one card. only problem is not booking trips on the same dates! it also gives 66% off kid fares, as well as 33% off adult fares, including off peak, advance, etc.
