Probably the cheapest deal for a 240gb SSD, and a decent brand too.
Usually dispatched within 1-2 months if you're prepared to wait, or just order and if something cheaper comes up in the mean time then order that.

Coincidentally, I was looking at the 120gb version earlier as a boot source for my OS. The problem is, I don't really want to be waiting 2 months to build my PC. All my parts should be purchased by a week or two. Such a shame at a great price.

It is a shame. I know sometimes Amazon list these long dispatch times but deliver sooner. You can't be sure though.
If you're desperate for one at this price then there are sellers on eBay that sell unbranded uncased 240gb ssd s for £50, not sure how good or reliable they are though

Why is there such a long dispatch date? I'm so use to seeing everything dispatched by Amazon being next day or is it coming from overseas?
SUMMONER to uk3g
3 Feb 17#7
Because they don't have an ETA for new stock yet. The date will change as a supplier makes stock available to Amazon.

This or is it just worth paying extra for a Samsung Evo 850?
Horrorwood to darthvader666uk

Highly unlikely that most people would notice a real world difference outside of benchmarks. Get whichever is cheaper IMHO

If the 850 evo was £10 or £15 more expensive then yes but its £35 more expensive so its not worth it.
The only difference in them will be large file transfers, and heavy thrashing of the drive. Pci-e based ssds regardless of the interface wipes the floor with sata drives and why the price premium on the 850s is no longer worth it

Exactly, under the old OCZ brand I supplied 3 classrooms of PC's with OCZ drives in, every single one failed. I know Toshiba have taken over the business but it looks as though there's still problems.

At the bottom of the Amazon page it say's
There is a newer model of this item:
TOSHIBA - OCZ SSD TL100 SERIES SATAIII 240GB READ 550 WRITE 530 85K IOPS TLC £86.07
so im guessing Amazon is looking to acquire some stock clearance at a cheaper price. So its wait and win for me.

Never personally had any issues with OCZ SSD's, pre or post Toshiba take over.
Surely a steal at the price anyway.

When a reputable company take over another the they bring in there own quality control principles ,as they have even put there own name with OCZ this shows they believe in the quality now?

They revised the timescale down to 1-4 weeks this morning, but now it's showing 1-2 months again. If it doesn't come in the next couple of weeks I'll just get the Sandisk one for £12 more.

THanks, it make sense. The SSD is basically only going to have Windows on it while the WD black will hold the games

I find the OCZ drives very poor. First one had windows 7 on it with very minimal use 5months and used 1 day a week. Drive failed! This was replaced and with Windows 10 install it had very little use approximately 80hours and the drive failed!l just out of warranty! Very poor drive but was a lot faster than traditional hdd s

During the student 20% off deal. Price was still £105 or so pre discount which is a decent deal.
Performance aside, OCZ drives have historically always been bad for reliability. They are owned by Toshiba now but not much has improved. I won't vote either way as you won't find another ~240 drive brand new at this price but be warned.

As an alternative, given the long delay, I'd encourage checking out:
Not a well none maker, yet, but these drives are almost as good as Samsung 850s for £20 less. SK Hynix are a huge supplier of internal components and have recently moved into manufacturing their own consumer drives.
Tom's Hardware says "The SL308 we tested today shows a lot of promise in the value-focused storage segment. With some additional firmware tuning, it could be an exceptional product. Though the SL308 doesn't quite dethrone Samsung's 500GB 850 EVO in the performance charts, it comes close"
