Hahaha - I see what you did there!!!
Hilarious!
Because you like thieve it, and that's why you made the comment "people pay for Office?"
It's like one of those funny joke things! What would have made your post even better however would have been mentioning Microsoft but putting M$ and then one of those "sinister" smilies at the end for added effect.
But otherwise.....hahahaha, sorry - just cannot stop laughing, it's great.....otherwise, it was perfect.

But that doesn't earn the software company a continous stream of income.... renting is much better for a company, those that buy office to own outright may not buy another copy for 10 years or more as the changes are fairly minimal for most users. Let's face it, Office 2003 is good enough for most tasks

I use these 5 device packs and share among the family so 4 other family members (not in the same household mind you) all get the latest full Office package which in my opinion is a great price for 5 devices.

18 Feb 17 #12
Please accept my apology for being cynical above OP, Neoaisac was correct it does seem to be a glitch. I've just placed an order and the confirmation note says it will be delivered by email in the next 24 hours. I've rather assumed I will be able to stack this on my MS Office account (I think the current licence runs until June or July), which will lead to a bit of a saving (probably not as much as the £40 AO claims, I could probably buy it elsewhere for about £60, but still a £20 saving).
Good post OP.
doggboy10
18 Feb 17 #13
My code just arrive and redeemed perfectly!!! great stuff.
turning auto-renewal on also add's a month (turned it off straight after)
would i be able to buy another to extend even further.
GoNz017 to doggboy10
18 Feb 17 1 #15
Yes you can stack.

And those of you saying this is just a cashcow rather than shell out for a one off standalone office seem to be forgetting the 1tb of storage per user so 5tb in total, you can't buy that for £40 a year.
othen
18 Feb 17 #14
... further to my last:
That was a very painless experience. I paid AO £39 by PayPal, which was accepted immediately. The confirmation email arrived within minutes and the download email (with the MS key) came a few minutes later. I've just logged in to my MS account and in a few moments extended my licence to June 2018.
This really does seem to be a good deal, I don't know how you spotted it OP (you probably need to get out a bit more), but well done.

Personal edition £59 is also reducing to £39 with 'EXTRA20' code, however you might as well just go for the 5 user Home edition at the auto reducing £39

You also get 60 minutes of worldwide Skype (per user) with the O365 subscription, so the monthly fee isn't bad despite the fact it feels a bit off paying Microsoft something each and every month when you used to buy it and have it "for ever" - note they no longer support (some) older versions of Office, so even buying one (two) on disc years back now has rendered them pretty much useless and almost forced to update to 2016 or 365.

18 Feb 17 2 #28
As others have said, does that include 5 x 1TB of cloud storage and Skype mins...and frankly, is a better product? What does equivalent cloud storage alone cost? Do the maths :-)

Obviously if you just need 'office' software try Microsoft's Office online, Google apps or Libreoffice; all are free but they're not actually comparable to this deal.

Great Deal. I just purchased it. All details came through by e-mail within minutes, and I used the code to add an extra 12 months to my existing Office 365 subscription. I checked in my Microsoft Account details that my subscription had been extended by 12 months, and it had. So I then went back to the AO website and purchased another one, to stack up a further 12 months. So my Office 365 subscription, including the 1TB cloud storage per user, has now been extended by 24 months for less than £80. Many thanks to the OP!

Some of us might need specific features, I work from home and office so I need to not worry about slight differences with different software and while I don't really like the idea of subscription based software, the fact is 4 other members of my family can all have the fully featured Office suite for peanuts. Obviously Open Office and the like do offer excellent value for money and will work well for many.

Huntegowk
19 Feb 17 1 #36
AO.com choose not to deliver to the Highlands, and that's up to them. But refusing a digital download to a Highland address is beyond stupid.
othen to Huntegowk
19 Feb 17 #40
I think you could have got round that problem by opting for the 'deliver to a store' (or similar words) option, then just selecting any old store. I suspect it would then have allowed you to buy the item. Nothing gets delivered (by post), so it does not matter (remember this was supposed to be an offer for sale with a new PC from AO's perspective) - so you would still get delivery by email a few minutes later.
I can't guarantee this will work (because I don't live in the Highlands and I have not tried it), but I suspect it will and it would cost nothing to give it a try.

Personally don't like the idea of 'renting' software.

I bagged a legit copy of Office 2016 a few days ago via the MS-HUP.

However, I don't like that damn flat GUI of the newer incarnations of Office and much prefer the look and feel of MS Office 2010. If I'd known beforehand I probably wouldn't have upgraded.

But I just hate flat GUI in all software plain and simple.

Supposed to be modern and minimalistic, but to me it looks more like a throwback to a long gone computer era. What next? Black & white, like the good old days of DOS?

That's main reason I'm still on W7 (the last great Windows OS) despite being entitled to the 'free' W10 upgrade. No thanks!

tech3475
19 Feb 17 #45
Depends on the user, I find it's ok for casual stuff but when we try to do certain things on it at work it can become a pain, end up using BYOD and taking work home at times where we had office on it.

Me neither, but the cost can make it a better alternative, especially when you're able to get it cheap like this. Presuming a new version comes out every three years and you can't get an employer discount, you can save hundreds of pounds for the same amount of computers.

At least depending on where/how you get the keys and if you upgrade regularly.

I got mine in minutes using home delivery and paypal, have you checked your junk email?

It's a good price. You won't get as many "Hot" votes as you should, too many people seeing the pirated versions posted here for £10, so they will see this as over-priced.
Usual RRP is £79, Amazon regularly sell for around the £65 mark (why you should never choose the option to renew your subscription automatically - just keep buying boxed codes to extend).
You can pre-load up to 5yrs subscription with 365 - Amazon (direct) were selling this for £35 around Christmas so I purchased 3 of them and now have just under 4yrs subscription left.
spannerzone
19 Feb 17 #64
No, it's Office 365, a subscription based version of Office. You'd end up with Office 365 (2016) and Office 2010. After 1 year Office 365 would lose functionality unless you kept the subscription going,

The £10 ones on ebay are usually Office 2016 Pro for 1 computer whereas this is Office 365 for 5 devices on a 1 year subscription. It could be Office 365 that's for a student or such like. I don't want to start an arguement about the validity of the £10 ones on ebay but it's reasonably safe to say they're not a legitimate licence should that bother you whereas this deal is legitimate and comes with no chance of having the software blocked by Microsoft (well unless you don't renew the subscription next year) also comes with other goodies like Skype minutes, 1TB storage etc.

So sounds like they buy the 5 user deal and sell off 5 accounts.....you're somewhat beholden to them, even if they give you a unique log in, they still ultimately are the administrator of the 5 licence account so could delete your user account if they wanted to. Not worth the hassle.

Yup! I suppose it a bit like borrowing it from work, but costing a tenner then?

But until then either A or B occurs, it's costing less than a tenner and if everything is unchanged for say two years, it's cost the user a fiver a year.

I don't create that many Word or Excel documents at home, but it's nice to have MS Office just in case and cannot remember the last time I actually used Access, Publisher or any of the other office applications. So the HUP route for less than a tenner is a winner.

Great! Just got £5.97 off with Topcashback, which tracked right away bringing the price down to £33.03 and also bought a second one via Quidco for a £5 off more than £10 spend plus their (measly) cashback of 3.02% for a total of £32.82 (though they haven't tracked yet). Extended my Personal subscription for another two years, plus an extra month for the auto-renew option and have it upgraded to a Home subscription for under £66. Emails with product codes came through in minutes from AO and they worked fine
when adding them to my existing Microsoft account. Well happy with that. Thanks.

Update: Quidco tracked and for the full purchase amount of £79 they seem to have disregarded the £40 discount offered by AO so gave me £2.37 off plus their current £5 bonus offer...

Purchased a copy for £39 without a computer purchase. The discount is applied as you purchase and the receipt states £39. It delivers to a store near within a couple of days - free delivery.

I bought 3 and extended my office 365 to 2023, the comments that ither free software better, I can say goodluck with it.

It does but it you follow through to the checkout the price says £39 so there is a glitch, these things are always noticed quickly though so I'd get in there fast

Been a monthly user to check it out and really like it. This type of offer has been on my mind and it seems to have worked for me. I use all my extra users, but am thinking mates could pay me a bargain tenner for a user space and four means my one would be free. I use a free service called multcloud to keep this and my other cloud storage tidy. Microsoft are getting money out of me for the first time ever. Buying soon to be obsolete boxed product is passe. I'm legal and up to date. Lots of winners.

It looks like I have Personal 365 due to expire in May. Can someone explain to me what I do with this code now? I'm confuddled as I can't see anywhere to redeem it?

Same here, just got the code.

So it's gone up in price now? Glad I got two years worth and delved into the world of hiring software! Outlook 365 is certainly nippier than Outlook 2007 (as I was using), took all the account details across without any issues too. Now to get the other four user slots filled and get my 1TB of OneDrive space used up!

Yep, expired. It's £59 now

Agreed. I worked at AO for 6 months and unless the owner also owns ebuyer, which I'm pretty certain he doesn't, then they are not connected. AO used to be called Appliances Online and might have had a different name when formed back at the turn of the century.
Anyway I ordered this last night and got the code ok. Sounds like I was close to missing out.

£18.65 pending cashback from ao.com - Thanks, as I save £120 originally + cashback! 3 years of subscription for £98.35 is awesome price

Anyone else just have their TCB amount plummet?

Bought 2 subs and was originally tracking at around £12 cashback. Look today and it's dropped to £0.81 :disappointed:
alex_uk
22 Feb 17 #144
yep, from £18 dropped to £1.22
spannerzone
24 Feb 17 #145
Yeah me too, now 80p but to be honest it was clearly a pricing error by AO so we got the software for £20 to £40 cheaper than usual price so can't or shouldn't really grumble about the cashback
JF53
24 Feb 17 #146
Agreed. It was a good deal.

Not sure it was a pricing error though because in addition to appearing on ao.com's own website it was also actively promoted on TCB. I decided to raise a query with TCB (currently 'on ice' until 3rd March) and whilst doing so I was asked to pick the offer I'd taken advantage of. Now when I view my claim the offer title shows as "Software – includes Office was £79 now £39!" so seems legit. Not too fussed either way but no harm in trying
spannerzone
24 Feb 17 #147
Oh ok I thought on AO it said it was £39 when bought with a PC but if it didn't state that on TCB then it might have been AO's error not advising TCB correctly... well worth making a claim.
