Not bad, definitely hot, but deals for GTX boots do come along for not much more than this, and I reckon that is worth paying a bit extra for if you go anywhere wet.

What he said. One thing you absolutely need in a pair of walking boots in this country is a decent level of proofing

They are rubbish in my opinion. They dont keep water out which for the uk walking rules out 8 months, they are too hot in the summer so there is another 2 months of useless boots. So a great choice if you only walk out in May or September. Paying about £20 just for the name. But feel free to knock yourself out and grab a pair.
Goretex, I think its a material that other companies use in their products - why they are more expensive. They usually add GTX to the name when used. I found it really works, 100% waterproof but breathable.

I have to vote cold. If they were £1 they are no bargain as hiking boots if they aren't waterproof.

No need to be quite so melodramatic about it!
These are still really good boots, just not the very best for wet conditions. They are well made and leather, so its not as if they were canvas or mesh.

And just to add grist to the mill I now try & stay away from Merrell shoes after my experience with some Moab Gortex hiking shoes that used to walk the dog in. After 6 months they were no longer waterproof and after about 12-13 months the sole has come unglued from the upper rendering them pretty useless. Terrain used in was nothing more than smooth pavements so I now seriously doubt Merrell's quality these days.

as M_z said, they're nicely made leather boots. despite the hiking moniker I'd personally say they're more a casual/everyday boot, but for those with dodgy ankles they're cracking for this. If you're working through the munroes you'll not be messing about with £50 boots

a few sizes are this price in black too, but only at the upper and lower ends, the more common middle sizes are a bit dearer
