I agree the word EASTER is not found on the front of the packet on most of the eggs sold.
My guess is that its more down to commercial reasons in the same way Christmas has gone. Remove the word Easter and you have more space to add the words and images you need to make your egg stand out from the others and make more money.
There is a campaign in the media to try and make the decision of these compaines sound like they have to do it for certian religious people when there is no truth in it. This is a sad country when not only when this fake news gets believed as truth but also that we have indeed lost the religion from the seasonal events so that companies can make more money.

This year I will eat Chocolate eggs at Easter. I think this is a good deal from Tesco, however I think I will look for a good deal on the hotel chocolat ones as I prefer their taste.

We shall have to agree to disagree on that.
jrandrews72
4 Mar 17 #89
The bo££ox is when people believe that by moving the word Easter from the front of a packet to the rear its in somehow related to any religion or to make people pacified. I expect the reality is due to marketing as this has become a commercial event instead of the religious event.
Pancake day is not Shrove Tuesday anymore either in the supermarkets when they want us to buy lemons and pancake mix.
dpmcm21
4 Mar 17 #88
It's a real load of bo££ox when our Christian celebrations are diminished (to pacify the minority) in a Christian country.

In the voice of Homer, "Cadburys Easter eggs....uhhhhhh"
Pete525
3 Mar 17 #85
That obscure website link simply debunks a spoof Tesco post. Attempts at deflection aside, you agree the word Easter doesn’t feature on the front. Only in small print on the Cadbury reverse is Easter mentioned. Nothing on Nestle. I just checked several types in store. Statements from Cadbury and Nestle in that Telegraph article and others (eg see http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-3512381/Cadbury-underfire-hiding-reference-Easter-chocolate-egg-packaging.html ) have Cadbury and Nestle confirming that or making no comment and giving no coherent reason for the change. Cadbury on facebook said they dropped it because “the seasonal design shows what it is” (!)

The Telegraph article has photos of previous Cadbury and Nestle packaging showing Easter was previously used. So why has it been quietly dropped in the UK in recent years in the name on the front? That no sensible person would be put off buying a chocolate egg due to the word Easter doesn’t mean companies don’t make myopic decisions assuming some might. Happens a lot in the UK, even more so in the public sector. Very ironically given Easter like Christmas is mainly secular in the UK nowadays. Another manifestation of the culturally self-destructive Happy Holidays phenomenon.
jrandrews72
3 Mar 17 #84
Adding some more truths into this discussion. Tesco have an EASTER section with EASTER EGGS.
The Eggs (even Cadburys) have EASTER on them - albeit in small writing (not visible on Tesco website)
No one is offended by an Easter egg. There is no PC campaign.
See this interesting article http://www.thatsnonsense.com/tescos-really-dropping-easter-packaging-2017/
Pete525

Someone is about to lose credibility. I noted last week in Asda, not one Easter Egg is so named on the packaging. They're all now named "chocolate eggs" or just "eggs". The only Easter Eggs still so called were ones produced and exported from Europe, found in Aldi. Where they are not infected by the PC excess that has so undermined the British culture. (And NB I'm not British). Thorntons also stick to the original name too I believe. But overall it's one of those many silent removals of British traditions which goes unnoticed until the tabloids pick it up each year around Easter and then the UK manufacturers give some bland statement half denying the reason to excise Easter from Easter Eggs. If you look on Tesco's website on the link, Tesco are calling some of them Easter Eggs, but if you look at the image of the packets, none of the manufacturers, Cadbury etc, actually are labelling their products as that. It is indeed because the manufacturers don't want to lose sales in case anyone objects to a perceived religious link. You might as well ban the word Christmas from Christmas cards and merchandise. Barmy Britain.
NB after typing that I googled it and found this article, one of many. Which makes precisely the same points:

28 Feb 17 #75
Remember you have to get 2x2. I stupidly tried to buy 6 expecting it to come to £4.50. Had to go and get 8 in the end.

It's in-store at tesco express store by the way. Up along the top shelf of one of the middle aisles in my local.

Don't forget teh 2x5 cream egg packs for £2 too and you've got Easter sorted.

Definitely went through the normal tills with the offer on a mixed batch this morning , i had to buy 16 , but had a mixture of 9 different varieties in varying quantities. Glad the self scanners hadn't been opened up when i got there at 7.30 . Seems odd how this is working in some stores and tills and not others though.

Maybe just online where there is a limit of 20 on how many you can order and have to order other stuff for delivery. Also fingers crossed that they have the ones you ordered and don't come broken as you would have to give quantities of 4 back to get the sets of 4 at 75p each instead of £1.50 each.

I also wondered why Flake eggs have suddenly disappeared in recent times and was discussing this with a friend that has a family member who is a reliable source. They checked with them and they said that since Kraft/Mondulez purchased Cadburys a few years back they had been tweeking the recipe of their products slightly by using cheaper ingredients than was traditionally used before hand. There has been a lot of media coverage on this and Kraft/Mondulez/Cadburys have denied that the recipe has been changed, which I presume they can stand by because it is just the actual quality of ingredients that have. This has been obvious as although I still buy their chocolate the taste and texture is different in recent times than it used to be and isn't as nice either. They said the Flake has been a little more difficult to change because of its crumbly texture which the cheaper products cannot replicate and therefore costs more to produce which is why they have pulled it from the cheaper Easter range. I'm not sure if the larger eggs are still available but the medium range are certainly not around anymore. As I say this is only what I have been told by a friend but they have advised that it has come from a very reliable source.

I much prefer cadburys , the smarties egg (only one I tried from 75p) one tastes like smart price chocolate melted into a shape of an egg no flavour what so ever! Cadburys is so yum! I scoffed 2 median eggs in 1 day but the smarties one is still here!
