I missed out on the black friday offer that someone posted a few months ago but this looks basically the same to me?

Its not "free ink", its 3 months trial of the HP instant Ink Service, Depending on the service level you sign up (starts at £2 a month) to that entitles you to print xx number of pages a month, go over it and you have to buy more pages.
The printer counts a single dot of ink on a page as a print, printing two sided counts as two pages. If you only print text its probably cheaper to buy compatible carts than sign up to this
Your printer also always needs to be connected to internet and be able to talk to the instant ink service, so it can track your use. No connection, or cancel the service and its supposed to stop you using the ink from the Instant Ink service even if they are full.
Its not a bad deal, just be aware that its not "free ink" any more than if you get the starter cartridges in a printer box..
I got this 2 weeks ago, signed up for ink - 3 months free!! cracking printer n great ink deal. Hot!!!

Is this compatible with Apple AirPrint?

From the description on the page:
Mobile printing
If you have an iPhone, iPad or other Apple device, AirPrint compatibility makes printing from them simple. It's already built into every new Apple device, so all you have to do is press the icon to print photos, documents and more from your mobile devices.
Android users can do the same with HP ePrint – just download the app to print completely wirelessly from smartphones, tablets and more.

Don't know what the difference is but the HP 4523 (as opposed to 4520) with same 3 month ink trial is 1p cheaper at Argos. http://www.argos.co.uk/product/5052338

Can someone explain how the 3 months free ink works. I have a top of the range pc and graphics card but lack one of the most basic things, a printer. Been on the lookout for one for a while. Its a nuisance to get something printed when you need it like a voucher for a restaurant or something.

You will need to go to the website and enter your product details. You should get this info in the leaflet or paperwork with your printer. Hope that helps!

They way I looked at it when I bought my HP envy was it cost £32 and it had 6 month's free ink meaning that I could print out 1800 pages / photos for the price of a single set of cartridges after that I will just bin it I think as it will probably not last much longer after that

I got the 4527 was a tenner more but a fiver off at the time with 4 months free ink.
The free ink you sign up for and choose a plan £3.99 for up to 100 sheets a month and tiers up to £8.99.. when the printer knows it's running out it sends a message to HP and the ink arrives at your door automatically. Pretty cool. Friends told me about it before I bought this and sounded good.
Mine prints on Matt glossy paper envelopes and labels great printer

Well A3 printers are big, as a good aspect as well it has individual cartridges for each color, so you don't need to replace all if you are running low of just one.

Basically you can print 300 pages a month and they will supply the ink for free

Why is is any different to the usual "starter" cartridges that usually come with printers, they work for a few hundred prints then dry up.
If you print high number of full colour full page prints they work out good value, but many people will be doing less ink intensive printing most of the time.

I bought the 4524 so I could print photos without having to worry about ink but it is absolutely useless. The colours are nothing like those showing on the laptop image and three days later they are still not dry and are smudging. Used good quality glossy paper and printed on high. HP's suggested remedy? to only use HP paper and to print on normal setting! Would definitely not recommend this printer.

weird I have the same printer and it's great for photos. What photo paper are you using?

Limited free ink with the caveat that the printer is connected to the internet.
HP are tracking everything you print, I guarantee it. (Obviously I dont actually guarantee it.)

Good printer with Instaink. Search around interwebs for referral codes to get an extra month on your trial (referral codes can't be posted here) plus theres another code for another month - HP support can add it in after I believe if you contact them.
Once you've configured your printer, you'll need to setup the trial within 7 days of 'activation'.
Sign up for the 300 pages per month till the end of your trial, go print mad during this time and then roll back to a tarrif that will reflect your typical usage - you'll be slightly stung for going over.
The cartridges you get in the box won't last too long (so I'm told, I've still got ink after a fair amount of prints), they're not completely full (there are two types). Since the printer will call home to HP (it's wireless), you'll soon have new cartridges come in the post hopefully before you ever run out. Some others have reported that it didn't fit their letterbox, like myself, so be warned if you don't have a good postie or live in a dodgy neighbourhood with a standard sized letterbox.
The system won't let you stockpile the cartridges as its tracking your usage.
And finally, it's pages (A4, 6x4 photos, envelopes etc) that count towards your usage. ie printing a single word on a an A4 page is the same count as a full high quality colour photo on glossy paper.

Cliosport, I'm using Epson glossy. Tried printing on other non HP and same result. HP help just said to only use HP paper and to try printing on Normal setting, which definitely lessened quality of the print and they didn't dry either. Going to try HP photo paper and hope that sorts it. Discovered in my search for an answer a lot of very poor reviews for the printer including people with the same issues as myself. Great printer for the free ink and general paper printing but personally I would not buy HP if planning to do photos.

I was the same as you after trying to print photos on Kodak photo paper, read reviews saying it was crap for photos BUT I thought I would try out some HP photo paper and guess what it worked great , print quality was good no dark photos. I have printed over 400 good quality photos now. So my advise is don't give up yet

Not quite, I had a laserjet 1200 printer that lasted from 1997 I think with no problems until last year, and I've had HP lasers for years are they are reliable. Business grade stuff used to be well built, (went with a Dell to replace the laserjet as it was on offer) its the consumer level stuff that's built to a cost and suffers for it

It's £74 with £20 cash back from HP = £54 a bargain for a A3 printer
