Good printer prints on various materials labels envelopes different weights of paper. So I'd say yes

16 Feb 17 #7
At the end of the free trial can I simply start buying my own cartridges?
DjudjangoKid to Savo
16 Feb 17 #8
You can cancel the subscription at anytime and buy your own cartridges if you wish.

Depending on your ink levels when your subscription is about to end it might be worth paying a couple of more months so that you get sent new cartridges, then you cancel.

How much is monthly subscription?

Good printer with Instat Ink. Search around interwebs for referral codes to get an extra month on your trial (referral codes can't be posted here) plus theres another code for another month - HP support can add it in after I believe if you contact them via web chat.

Once you've configured your printer, you'll need to setup the trial within 7 days of 'activation'.

Sign up for the 300 pages per month till the end of your trial, go print mad during this time and then roll back to a tarrif that will reflect your typical usage - you'll be slightly stung for going over.

The cartridges you get in the box won't last too long (so I'm told, I've still got ink after a fair amount of prints), they're not completely full (there are two types of each of the colour and black cartrides - big & small). Since the printer will call home to HP (it's wireless), you shouldn't ever run out unless you do a massive batch of printing. Some others have reported that it didn't fit their letterbox, like myself, so be warned if you don't have a good postie or live in a dodgy neighbourhood with a standard sized letterbox.

The system won't let you stockpile the cartridges as its tracking your usage.

And finally, it's pages (A4, 6x4 photos, envelopes etc) that count towards your usage. ie printing a single word on a single A4 paper page is the same count as a full high quality colour photo on glossy pape (at any size - max being A4).
phil001 to scaryprowler
16 Feb 17 #17
So could you (if you were a bit naughty...) print lots of pages with just one word on, triggering quite a lot of ink being sent to you, then cancel at the end of the trial period?
braddrum
16 Feb 17 #12
So whats the difference between this and the 4520 from Currys that was posted a couple of days back?
badboyofrock to braddrum
16 Feb 17 #33
According to Hp, the 4520, 4523, 4524 and 4527 are all the same and the functionality is identical.
mchcreations
16 Feb 17 #13
This sounds a duplicate deal for me, the Currys one was posted 3 days ago with same price, same model, and in comments was added already the argos option.

Set mine up today but was confused about this instant ink trial... can I activate it at any time or is it a onetime setup thing?

Thanks again for the hot deal
scaryprowler to Gomezie
16 Feb 17 1 #21
Within 7 days of setting it up IIRC. Search net for 'HP Instant Ink referral - free month' for extra month for referal and another code for an exrta month
malwi to Gomezie
16 Feb 17 1 #22
You can activate it anytime but you may want to do it before the starter cartridges run out. I believe you can get around 100 pages with the starters
dunkcuk
16 Feb 17 #15
are the photos of OK quality when u print them ?
malwi
16 Feb 17 #16
Photos are good as you expect from a printer of this price range.
dunkcuk to malwi
16 Feb 17 1 #30
I don't know what to expect from a printer this priced lol - kinda why I asked ....
malwi
16 Feb 17 #18
HP aren't dumb. The paper count is to check against your subscription. Actual ink levels reported by the printer is used for replacement. Each ink cartridge is tagged and tracked by the printer software.
scaryprowler
16 Feb 17 #19
No, ink levels in the cartridges are monitored, when they get low they automatically call home and HP send more.
malwi
16 Feb 17 1 #20
Also the instant ink cartridges cannot be used once your subscription has lapsed even though there may be ink left in them as the printer will come up with an error message saying "No ink cartridge found"
DjudjangoKid to malwi
16 Feb 17 #23
After reading this I realised you have to return the cartridges to HP if you cancel your subscription:

======
HP Instant Ink cartridges do not work after the end of your current billing period, and you are required to return them to HP. To continue printing after your billing cycle ends, make sure you have standard replacement ink cartridges ready to use in your printer.
======
http://support.hp.com/gb-en/document/c03767641
======
malwi
16 Feb 17 #24
I don't think they enforce the return but the printer is clever enough to recognise what cartridge is inserted. Anyone not wishing to continue after the free trial period should utilise the full quota by printing photos for their albums etc.
hadyanth
16 Feb 17 #25
Already got this while looking at alternatives to a recent HP Envy deal posted here. Beware that Argos might try to offload the 4520 on you upon collection. Whilst they take the same cartridge, they are in fact two separate SKU codes.
rigggary99
16 Feb 17 #26
Cancelling after you receive a new set of cartridges makes no difference...
When using 'instant ink' cartridges your printer must be connected to the internet.
(1) If your printer is not connected to the internet they will not print.
(2) The very second you cancel your subscription to instant ink, the cartridges will stop working. (Or they will stop working at the end of your billing period depending on if you cancel it instantly or at the end of the billing cycle)

Of course, this only affects cartridges that are sent as part of the 'instant ink' subscription.
If using normal cartridges you don;t have to be connected to the internet etc.

Not opened it yet but I'm guessing there is a promo voucher inside?
sean316 to Kraezae
16 Feb 17 #31
Same here :sunglasses:
zabada
16 Feb 17 #29
In my case the free trial was just part of setting up the printer. I did not need to add a promo voucher. Other people have reported that the printer will print a code to use, but in my case this did not happen. Using a referral code would give you one month extra for the free trial.
sowotsdis
16 Feb 17 1 #32
Photo quality is good but not amazing but it mainly depends on quality of paper
I had some photo paper where the ink would not dry and some where it came off and some where it caused rippling
Buy quality and it's perfect
It also does duplex
Bad news-
Do be aware the printer is slow and the shipping of replacement inks is about 7-10 days from when it tells you levels are low and you would be mad not to continue with a basic ink supply at the end of the trial
Enchante
17 Feb 17 1 #34

Big difference for me is that I have never ever been able to actually find stock near me of any of the currys printer offers, so this deal is appreciated 'cause all my local Argos have stock.

TheParmars
18 Feb 17 #48
Is this really the case? Just picked mine up and I got the 4523 - is there really no difference between this and the 4527 as some people here seem to be chuffed when receiving the 4527? Is it mainly down to the 4527 coming with a 5 month free ink trial and the 4523 coming 3 or 4 months?
badboyofrock
18 Feb 17 #49
Possibly. My info came from the ho website, where someone had asked the difference. It's just marketing.

From the HP Expert, the difference is only marketing. I guess to trick people to spending more for the 4527.

Same day delivery in rural Yorkshire. Installation a doddle. Don't watch animation. Just look at pictures. Enrolled in instant ink plan. Safari on iPad didn't let me enter details so switched to Dolphin browser and all worked. It said I have three months free trial. Added FREEINK and got another month free ink. The paper support is rather skimpy. But for £35...

Hot.

Picked this up from Argos today for £35, got the 4527. Used a referral code and FREEINK so 6 months in total Instant Ink. Wife is a teacher, so pretty handy having 300 pages of printing each month for the next 6 months. Especially as she likes to print resources / colour pages either for laminating or on photo paper. Got the feeling if we get used to it, we'll just keep paying it... Or buy another £35 printer if you can still get 6 months free again. As then it works out £5.80 a month.

We done 14 pages of mainly full colour tbf and had warning to say colour ink is low. But no email to say they've sent any ink out. Do I need to get in touch with HP? Or dies it happen automatically
Ger73
21 Feb 17 #87
No the printer automatically orders it for you as long as it's connected to wifi login to your account and check activity it usually states it there. My ink took 10 days to arrive and the ink was fine until they arrived and you should see a tracking number also which was very handy indeed

Excellent deal. Very simple!
Steps:
1. Buy the printer (argos still have for £35 - 4523 but they will give 4527)
2. Step up as per instructions and setup online account with HP
3. You will get 4 months ink plan for free (pick top one - £7.99 cancel later)
4. It will ask if you have any code, enter: FREEINK
5. You will now have 5 months of free ink. Print top quality photos and they will send new ink when you are almost finished.
6. You will get Bonus month ink when you refer your friends and family

Wireless / Scanner / Colour photos / Free ink = All for £35

Hate to be the party pooper guys but according to HP, all of the printers from the HP Envy 4520 series are identical and the numbers only denote which retailer sold that particular printer so there is no error by Argos so best to buy from Currys as they are selling cheaper.
