Although it is a bargain price, I totally agree, this is chipboard, not MDF and there is no centre support, brought these a couple of months ago and I am really chuffed https://www.amazon.co.uk/Garage-Shelving-Unit-Racking-Workshop/dp/B00V6JDHAE
I did try to post it as a deal as it is a UK seller but despite really good feedback and a lot of it, my deal was deleted
Put the right and left sides together first. Use a hammer or a mallet to knock in place. Once you have done one you will find it easy!

200kg on a chipboard shelf/meccano metal - I'd just about trust that over the whole unit, not the tonne it claims it can hold up.

First one took me an hour to assemble - but got way faster after that.
Put the heavy stuff on bottom shelf and they are perfectly safe.
If there are kids about , consider bolting/wiring/tying to wall.
I put mine in a corner 'L shape' to prevent any unlikely accidents

Personally always get mine from Big Dug and never been disappointed with the quality of their cheapest units which are usually 2 for £40ish.

It really depends on what you call a centre support, for me it has to be a rectangular-ish strut / support capable of weight bearing and not just a metal bar to reduced immediate warping on placing an item on the chipboard. This chinese import is decent but does not have a proper central support, its a very thin piece of metal, forget the chipboard the metal strip is liable to warp
Like I have said this is a cheap product which makes it a hot deal (decent feedback reiews), however it is not the best or most ideal product. Perfect for indoor use where there is not much water or damp - in your living room or under stairs. Not ideal for kitchens or garages. If you can afford it, buy better quality otherwise this is still a bargain.

13 Feb 17#52
Then why not just say that there may be an issue with shelves rather than saying product is poor, and are you sure you have the same product because I would have thought the centre support would prevent getting a dip in the middle.
edgeone
13 Feb 17#51
They warp regardless, damp accelerates it. I want flat shelves not ones with a dip in the middle! My garage is no damper than the next persons, so just letting people know what to expect from this product.
edgeone
13 Feb 17#49
These aren't great. The shelves are chipboard and warp especially if they are in a damp environment e.g. garage or shed. I've had a set for over a year and I am looking to replace with something more sturdy.
michter to edgeone
13 Feb 17#50
Why are they not great, you only have an issue with warping shelves, which has been caused by your damp problems, not a fault in the product. If you going to continue having damp problems why not just replace the chipboard with ply?
So when a deal on here is no longer available to anyone because its out of stock are you saying that deal should not be expired, because if you are, you need to tell everyone else on here as there are an awful lot of deals expired due to no stock available that really should be unexpired.

Good shelves and yes they do have a central support. Obviously it's built to a price point, and if you keep these in a damp home/garage, the chipboard will eventually warp. If that's the case, then I suggest dealing with the damp issue.
Good quality moisture resistant MDF isn't expensive, so even if the chipboard goes after a year or so, just buy a couple of sheets of the MDF, cut to size and replace the chipboard.

The item in question is rubbish. Avoid it. I've owned one and it's just not worth the price.
Most of these are made of very cheap metal, and the shelving will be poor chipboard. Trust me on this, without a central support, these boards will start to bend. I own one which claims 165kg per shelf. I have 18 Yankee Candles on my top shelf and the board is already warping. Even if it was 1kg weight for each candle, that's a huge stretch. This one claims 200kg but still offers no central support.
If I had known beforehand, I would have gone elsewhere.
Someone posted a link a few comments before yours. The same company offer a 4 rack system for £119 but it's much better quality. Trust me - you will get what you pay for. Link below:

Crikey, if your "new" garage has a mold problem that is so severe it rots these shelves in a month, me thinks you need more than just a plastic set

Don't let the chipboard shelves get wet or even damp. They suck moisture from the surrounding air and warp and sag. Cold from me sorry...I would not buy again.

I bought 8 of these 3 years ago for my garage. I've just ordered another two. They are sturdy, well made, fit together well, DO have a central support, and are ideal for storing all the bits and pieces I don't put in the attic. The shelves are not "industrial", or intended for commercial use (though I dare say that they could be used in some instances).
Well spotted OP. Heat added.

Just to confirm, I bought two of these two weeks ago. They are very light weight and pretty easy to assemble, they do have a central support that you fold the metal flap on each end to hold in place. They are not comparable to industrial racking as they are aimed at a different market and a vastly cheaper price. There are no bolts just thin metal flaps that interlock, only a mallet/ hammer required.
Similar size ones in homebase are double the price, so these are a good price, and if your looking to put these in a shed or garage to store typical household items they're fine. It would be a good idea to try and fix the tops to a wall if your going to seriously load them, or have kids that may attempt to climb them. Unless you intend to start storing gold bullion or are looking to store very heavy items they should be adequate. Put the heaviest items st the base.
And for storage on a budget I can recommend them.
