Is this better than the carrera parva for £40 less at halfords? Using for commuting and such.

I think so. Better components but probably marginal.

Picked up the Boardman hybrid comp last week for £338, was this a better deal? Know stuff all about bikes. Just went for it as had hydraulic brakes for my bafang motor

Think the Boardman is a better bet but it's £70 more. And out of my budget (£300). It's always a case of spend a little more and get more. In either case I think you got a good deal.

13 KG for a bike without disc brakes seems very heavy to me. Pretty much at it's money for me with this low spec. Never worth any more.
You'd be better off at Decathlon, Halfords with their various discounts or if you know what you are looking for spending out 2nd hand.
Forks weigh this down and are completely superflous.
You could get a lot better bike from Wiggle and Chain Reaction own brands. Paying for the name

Hello I spend a lot of time at Halfords, Decathlon, Wiggle etc (even taking trips to my local decathlon and halfords) and I couldn't see anything there better.
I was tempted by the Triban 500 Flatbar but it's a road bike rather than hybrid. Decathlon hoprider are ugly (in my opinion) and they are a lot heavier.
There was nothing in Halfords that matched the spec and brand for the price.
Do you have names/links or just general "I could get it cheaper" comment?

There isn't much difference in components between the two. Except one is a lot more expensive  The shocks are the only item that's an issue, and it was an issue for me too. I was not too keen, but figured if they put on 0.5kg then it's not the end of the world and maybe it gives me a little more scope in the future.
Good price for decent hybrid, personally don't think shocks are necessary and just add weight. Also shocks don't really take much abuse if you use this as a daily tcommuter in all weathers. But as a fair weather bike for a bit of it will be good.

For that price I'd expect a bloke to be cycling it all the way to your house.

Tempted by this - I have a cheapo steel-framed bike which weighs a ton and am thinking of getting something lighter and better for general exercise rather than any serious cycling. Would this fit the bill? Is there any other make I should consider for round about the same price or less?
Thanks

Wouldn't you get more exercise on a heavy bike?

Glad you liked it - I picked mine up on Sunday and tested it on Monday - really happy with it too.
For the money it's superb - can see why it's worth £400 RRP

I have the roam 2 paid £495 for it when it was new, this is a bargain
The Giant won because it's a more respected brand and slightly more mountain bike features. The Verenti (Wiggle own brand) is more road focused.

It's because Giant don't declare a weight and instead have this text
"The most accurate way to determine any bike’s weight is to have your local dealer weigh it for you. Many brands strive to list the lowest possible weight, but in reality weight can vary based on size, finish, hardware and accessories. All Giant bikes are designed for best-in-class weight and ride quality."
I think the text is a bit of a cop-out, they could have given an average. But if Giant the manufacturers don't declare it then can't expect resellers to do so either.
That being said Dr Google suggests it weighs around 13 kg.
