I remember BEFORE the original game came out a friend deliberately said "Oh I can't wait until ***** dies". He then said "Oh I thought you'd knew"... Yes because clearly I would go out of my way to spoil what nearly everyone was saying will be one of the greatest games of all time.
I eventually played the game on my birthday and played it solid for around a month, I had a spoiler free guide (not in how to beat the game, but how to find items you might miss and can't go back to later), then spent an age to get the Gold Chocobo so I could get Knights Of The Round summon before then going on to finally complete the game. I remember being 16 at the time and as the credits rolled thinking "This is the greatest game I've ever played". Although it still sucked knowing THE big spoiler beforehand.
To this day, with memories, it still is the greatest game I've ever played. But have not played it since the PS1 days, mostly due to the time it'll take to complete and also concerned it may not be as good as it once was for me. Still... tempted...
Very jealous, in my opinion FFVII is the best. Loved the materia system, and the characters are likable. Unlike Squall who I hated (but again liked FFVIII).

This is NOT the remake that is being released for PS4 sometime in the next decade. This is the original PS1 version that has been updated (much like the PC version).
If this was the Remake then this would be hotter than the sun lol.

2x PS1 versions (first broke on disc 1 with the rocket launch attempt cutscene), 1x PC version, 1x Steam version, 1x PS3/Vita version and now 1x PS4 version. By the time all the remake episodes are released, this frickin' game would've cost me more than WoW did back in the day :disappointed:

I was unsure whether to buy this or not as I too have a massive backlog of games to go through... I know I never will, but the game, the music, everything about this is awesome... I decided to buy it. I won't be playing it tonight though, but might have a crack at the weekend.

I'm going to wait for the PS4 remake whenever that comes. I bought this a while back for Vita on the PSN store for about £3.50 and then spent over 120 hours playing through it again doing literally everything including beating Ruby and Emerald weapon.
I loved this so much back in 1997 when I got it for Xmas on my PS1, I'd never played a game with such depth before. I was seeing a girl at the time and remember that she was whinging that she never saw me as I was always playing FF7, so I dumped her so I could play it even more. Happy times.
If you've never played this I envy you. Buy it now.

I purchased this earlier and have spent most of the day playing it. There must be some weird character trait I have or something, as I have like a million backlog games (including a half completed FF 15) to play but I've decided to spend my afternoon playing a game I have already played fully to completion about 4 times. What a flipping game though! The "infinite limit break" thing kinda breaks what little challenge the game had but I love that there's gonna be loads of people trying to get Cloud on a date with Barret in the Gold Saucer to get the platinum Trophy!

It's brilliant mate! I've been a fan of the series since I first got it on PS1 back in the late 90s. In some ways it pales in comparison to today's games in terms of graphics etc, and it has an odd (but good) feel to it. Best advice is just to immerse yourself in it, take your time, and enjoy the game's charms.

The amount of times I've rebought this game for X amount of consoles and computers, yet the last time i played it was mid 1998, makes me a bit sick.

nickywilson

Yes they stopped you having to pay in multiple of £5 a few years ago. Think they stoped it just after ps4 came out. Was really daft putting £10 in wallet for 2 £4 psp games.
Spidersmudge
15 Feb 17#14
Hot anyway at that price, but the Midgar theme is beyond lovely, especially when we are totally starved of any decent themes on PS4!
Some may not approve of the 'cheats' as they cheapen the original experience, but they do make the game less of a grind and accessible for everyone to enjoy, regardless of free time available.
I hope lots of new gamers give this a try

True on the cheats. But I've maxed every character and did all the weapons on ps1/psp probably 4 times over the years. So for people who've played it before speeding the game up a bit is a bonus.

Can remember getting this release week on the Ps1 from the WH Smith in Henley. Playing this on the PC myself currently (as I've still never completed it) and is still great. Nowhere near as difficult as it seemed to me at the time.
That mixture of naive charm and the often bizarre Japanese humour and sensibilities. Brings back fond memories and reminds me occasionally of the later Zelda Ocarina of Time, particularly the music.
