Earth Defense Force 4.1: The Shadow of New Despair reaches new heights in its gigantic military vs kaiju gameplay on PlayStation 4! Huge monsters clash with squads of giant robots as bomb-mounted tanks and flying troops equipped with laser rifles shoot it out with alien bug armies in the streets! With the new heavily-amoured Fencer class, the action has never been bigger or more explosive! EDF! EDF! EDF!

Soooooooo close to finishing the Vita version (EDF2). Twenty hours and 78 missions. Amusingly, for the platinum, you're expected to do it all over again with the other two character types (60 hours, say), and again at multiple difficulty levels.
Yes, because I've nothing else to play right now. Very good.

Great find turkey. Bought this on Psn a few months back for 20 odd. Steal at this price. Boring single player game but CO OP is where it shines!

Is this coop split screen or online coop only?

Thought this game was total garbage. Could only tolerate it for about 2 hours.

It's very Marmitish. I love it myself for the co-op, it becomes surprisingly strategic on the Hardest and Inferno difficulties.

It is really rough. I really like all the tongue in cheek badness of EDF but this one seems far less fun than the old PS2 games. Most of the weapons are completely useless and it gets pretty boring using the rocket launcher.
The spider webs take an absolute age to take down and strands which drag you halfway across the map to your death are an atrocious design flaw. You can't release yourself as there are so many buildings in the way.
The general concept is great but could be so much more with a decent engine like UE4 (cheese intact).

This game is ridiculous. The EDF games are very niche but so much fun. I bought this one on ebay recently for dirt cheap, the very first time i played online i figured out you could sing a song with in-game commands. Me and a random player were taking turns at singing the lines to the EDF song. Best game ever.

4.1 is grindtastic too. I usually loathe those types of games but this is still fun to play even after all the hours I've put into it. I'm at 56% completion (though I only need 19 Inferno plays combined for the four classes), so close now and I just unlocked the WD's Gungnir last night, woohoo!

Do you only play using the Ranger? There are a whole load of different weapons that may seem useless at first glance, but are actually very handy in certain situations. Example: The Fencer's Dyna Blade can actually pass through shields and Earth Eaters, meaning you can actually destroy enemies inside shields and even the Brains when they're hidden.

I dropped down to Easy for the last two missions as they just seemed utterly impossible, then realised I could grind the earlier missions on hard to get my armour up. Fast-forward a few hours and I had a shiny bronze trophy for my 30 hours of effort  Oddly, I found myself thinking, 'What can I do next?' I'm thinking I'll leave it installed and go back in small doses as I work my way through my Vita backlogue.
EDIT: Interesting spelling of backlog there. My backlog catalogue

Nice. Aye it's very much my snack game in between other games (though if I find a good squad I could play for a few hours). I thought my armour was at a respectable level for Inferno, but then I met someone last week with 300k !

300k! If I didn't have a job and a lady and a wee baby and about 40 other games to start (between the PS4 and Vita), I'd gladly put in that amount of effort!
If someone had told me a year ago there'd be a brand new Resident Evil that I wouldn't have bought (never mind played), I would've said they were crazy. Plus Yakuza 0, Persona 5, Red Dead Redemption 2 later this year... :o

I think (I hope!) that they just farmed it, as there are a few levels where you can use the rubber band trick (particularly one DLC level). Even then though that's a fair bit of effort as you'd have to reset it every hour or so.
I know the feeling. I almost feel guilty as it is with the amount of time I've put into it - I've got a pile of shame over 700, yet most of my gaming time is just spent between Rainbow Six Siege, EDF and a handful of other games . I think this will be the last game where I'm going to aim for a platinum/100%. Life is too short for perfectionism .
Congrats on the new addition BTW!

Thanks dude! I'm slowly mastering the art of holding baby and Vita/PS4 Controller at the same time, haha! In weeks 1 and 2 I genuinely thought my gaming life was over, but we've reclaimed some semblance of normality now
