You really have to check argos every few days for 3ds game deals things change quickly and quietly.

This is a good deal, Argos is quite good for deals as long as you have one near.

Do you need to play the first game to appreciate this one?

All you need to know is there was some grinding.

Did think I might be caught in some sort of Groundhog Day when I got to that stage...then things felt very 'grindy'...loved the look and feel of the game but wonder if the sequel is just as much of a grind as the first? Does it really add much new to the gameplay apart from the story?

According to the IGN review it adds a new gameplay mechanic called second (or something like that), which allows you to either attack twice per turn and sit out a future attack, or store up and wait in the hopes to unleash a stronger attack later.
